This video is just me satisfying my curiosity on whether my diesel heater will run on different fuels. today it was 10w30 engine oil
probably going to be a follow up video on this subject where i will try and run the heater on used clean HV46 hydraulic fluid

This is the video ive been looking for. Used an oil radiator (electric) for years but new that needed binning in favour of cheaper alternative, had my Chinese diesel heater only 2 days, running on red @£1.30 a ltr better than lecky but i got access to plenty of oil. I didn't want to experiment with -4° and freeze so realy appreciate you doing this.

I stopped mine working within 24 hours and had only run it for a couple of days, i was keen to get rid of oil, transmission fluids and brake fluids that I had sat in the garage which were no longer suitable for the cars we had. All were new and clean. 1st Transmission fluids stink! 2nd heater failed to start after 24 hours. Tried multiple starts to no avail, eventually decided to strip, I couldn't believe the carbon on this new unit, i suspect that one product don't know which was responsible. I cleaned everything up, still no start and white smoke, I hadn't remove the strainer but looked clear, however on subsequent removal the out (flame side) was carboned and glued up, not having a spare i merely rotated before reinserting and instant start up. I'll only dilute oils from now and due to smell, no transmission fluids.

Great job showing proof of work, couple bits to iron out. The bars don't indicate current temp, this is the temp setting, you adjust it with up and down arrows. There's an option to show the manifold temperature by pressing the "ok" button. Also, point exhaust down below the unit with no upward bends. you get a lot of condensation with diesel, more with "alternative" fuels and restricts the flow and causes flame outs. And lastly, use the twin peaks or "mountain" setting by pressing and holding "ok + lamp symbol" to activate. What this does is slow the frequency of pulses to allow the oil to burn leaner. Second year user, I have three units and experienced 100% waste oil straight from an oil change shops tank, only filtered with provided chynese filter. Biofuel will coke the manifold and exhaust, motor oils haven't this far for me. Cheers and subbed!

I live @ 8200' (htr shows 2360m) & the only way 2 get any of the 5 htrs i run started is 2 set the low fan speed to 2500 rpm @ startup, Glow Plug @ 6: once its running I turn the low fan speed back to 1500 to obtain the max Case Temperature (Manifold). BTW I am running pure diesel @ the moment however have tried with used oil mixes & still have 2 adjust the fan speed on startup. In order 2 see the Case Temperature (manifold) U must have a RED Remote that specifically states it will perform that function. I cant see the Case Temp on 1 of my Red or the 2 Black Remotes I have. Can U see the Case Temp on the htrs wired display? if so provide me its specs. I have only the Blue Displays. Thank U

Ive seen ppl use old engine oil in diesels a long time as long as its not too thick and mixed near 50/50 usually will be fine. . Its free energy!! A Point to consider here is when selecting oil for you engine get 5-20WT oils or 0-20WT. That will be better to use as when its life span is done, the thinner oil will be more easier for the pump to push thru tube to atomizer.

Vegetable oils contain glycerol. That’s an alcohol with very high vapour point. It often soots up the burners because it chars before it vaporises. But it burns like dino diesel when pre-heated to 80 centigrade. A copper coil around the exhaust pipe will do fine.

A good way to check how efficiently any one of these heaters is burning is to measure the Exhaust gas for CO "Carbon Monoxide" with a flue gas analyser.. Auto Diesel creates 32ppm Co & No Smoke.. 28 second heating oil creates 29ppm Co & No smoke.. A 60/40 mix of Auto Diesel/Used engine oil "filtered" creates 90ppm & 0-1 using a smoke gun... These were tested with the heater having operated for 10 minutes to thoroughly warm up.. The combustion air inlet hose filter was positioned 100cm away from the Exhaust outlet in a very well ventilated area.

I set mine up like that. I have the Chinese unit that has the tank built in for diesel then i T’d in a 50L tank that has a 3” exhaust pipe going through it that I hooked up to the heat duct to heat the oil. I have yet to try it out to see if it works. I was also thinking about putting a little 12v heating element in the intake to preheat the air coming in to the burn chamber to help with burning the oil. Another thing I will try if the oil doesn’t burn is adding 5% gasoline.
@jay-um1pu

It also helps to go into advanced settings and turn the fuel pump down for oil but leave the fan speed the same as factory. This is my current limitation in my exploration on those. Older controller can also work with afterburner, a better manageament system

@@Veikra People should just run them full speed, much cleaner and burning all the fuel. If they want to be more efficient they should buy a 2KW instead of a 5KW and burn that 2kw at full speed, it's only a little over a liter for 4 hours of burn time @ full speed on a 2kw. Then again 2kw is only good for a very small camper or a van. I'm using a 5kw in my shed and it's having a hard time keeping up (uninsulated).

A mix of 22% gasoline and 78% waste engine oil that has been filtered to 5 micron is a drop in replacement for diesel in a mechanical injection diesel......do not use hydraulic oil as it has anti-friction additives that don't burn and turn into a ash cokes up the cylinder head and precombustion chamber in an indirect injection diesel to the point that it doesn't run very well after a few hundred miles, engine oil doesn't have these additives.

yeah, well, you dont want to look at the insides of that engine. That will probably be completely black. You say it ran fine for years. But i promise you: It was for sure not used daily for many miles a day. It was used for the occasional trip around the block. Try what you said in this heater. Try waste oil, etc etc. Check David Mcluckie. He just came out with a new video on diesel heaters burning waste oil. It is pretty obvious what is going to happen to the heater. So a car running on such garbage?????? Sure, it will run for some time, maybe even years. Depending on how much you use it. But for sure it is gonna clog up channels that should be open.

All the oil combinations I tried would clag the heater up in a day and the performance would downgrade quickly. They tend to foul internally because they cannot burn hot enough to remove the deposits. They do... Just mix with a small amount of Diesel/Petrol and warm it up (Filter the old oil first), also you can pre start with Kerosene or paraffin! In line filters for both and a Y connector for both fuel types with auto switch on a timer (5 mins on start up fuel then it switches to old oil mix) Ran mine like this for a year then a strip down clean in summer, NOT to dirty either inside!

@wazza33racer
@wazza33racer Год назад
there If people follow the typical guides for making "black diesel" they should be fine. Centrifuge the WMO, mix 70% oil to 30% gasoline and then filter at 2 micron. Synthetic waste engine oil doesnt burn as well as old skool mineral, so use less in the blend.
@fveggerby
@fveggerby Год назад
It will burn anything oilbased. motoroil, gearoil, vegetable oil, palmoil, frying oil, all of them used or not. Only the viskosity in regards to the pump, would be an issue. (why used is better) I'm not sure about oilbased paint though. ;) Only difference is the resulting temp and cleaning. But it will burn anything. Same with (especially old) diesel generators. (and cars)

From the videos I have been watching, everyone uses these wrong. They are not made to take in outside air and heat it into a closed space. They are made to take in and recirculate heated air already being heated in a closed space for best efficacy. These are really cabin heaters for vehicles and small campers, not regular homes. I do however find them interesting as a portable option if used the way they are intended. Also, the recirculated air will get much hotter.
@rikmoran3963
@rikmoran3963 Год назад
The efficacy might be increased, but you will dry out the internal air. That is why people take air from the outside as it has a higher moisture content.
@nigelwilding1145
@nigelwilding1145 Год назад
So basically what your saying is everything gas safety says about requiring fresh air for combustion is wrong?
@acefreaky2988
@acefreaky2988 7 месяцев назад
While from an efficiency perspective reheating internal air is best , in fact bringing in outside air reduces the moisture content within a home. With a truck its not always possible to prevent engine smells etc comi g in the inlet pipe hence using cabin air. I measured humidity levels at home and even without the 2ltrs per hour on a average 2 people will exhale my home humidity went down from 65 to 50 percent as I guess damp air was pushed out through air gaps.

Waste oil has a overabundance of energy. Start the heater on a blend of diesel in a small tank with a larger inline valved tank full of filtered 3% detergent additive gas mixed waste oil. After it heats up for a few switch to the waste oil. Adjust the fan and flow rates til the burn is efficient enough to show a somewhat clean exhaust gas out.. near free fuel for heat.That waste oil... it gets burned at a waste processing plant I think it might as well make it your process! May be illegal in your area.😁 Check your laws.

Since when has 30ml (about 1m 15s) and 100ml made 150ml? Not very scientific, I would suggest - and using a near half-litre jug to measure it is asking for large errors. How long it might run, without sooting up , is entirely a different matter. Oh, btw, you have the machine upside down?
@turtlezed

try adding Kerosene with your hydraulic oil as its lighter than diesel…and burns hotter… might counteract the oils high flash point.? road diesels no2 n kero is equiv of diesel no1 … thinner, burns hotter but has less calorific value/energy. the kero might get the burn started easier than 100% oil and help keep it running. i would speculate using oils with high flash points would leave a residue in the combustion chamber, that being the additives in whatever oil you’re using…. you’d prob only know once its packed in n strip it out …what about trying ‘biodiesel’ or straight veg oil/ kero mix? can get a 205ltr barrel of kero for around a quid a litre ( anybody know where can buy cheaper in 205Ltr drums ?)

DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME - that burner exhaust is not vented and these heaters produce high levels of Carbon Monoxide.. Also the fuel to air combustion ratio is fixed with these, if you change to a fuel of higher calorific value the mixture will run rich and produce more CO. Kerosene is probably the only other fuel to diesel that is equivalent........
