As a runner who was there. As a runner who's run this race multiple times, this was ABSURD. And even this news vids edits are sus/handpicked/propagandist. Some easy IG searching of the run club in question, the 4 min or so running vid where they're trying to get a simple answer as to why they were being cordoned off only to be met with blank, indignant faces of police... that tells everything that needs to be told. Poor response by BAA, poor showing by Boston @ large; the mob that is this running scene, this boom and renaissance, we're not forgetting. We'll see what kind of dollars we can effect next yr. But wallets will be hit. Big ups to all of the run crews there. Sorry to the good sprits & hearts just trying to celebrate a day of great running. You know we've got your backs, know we're not losing this one.
Usually I don't like when the Race Card gets thrown out there. Because when real stuff LIKE THIS happens people shrug it off. This is blatantly targeted.
Being there, it was 1000% racism on display. Cops, home owners had ZERO issue with groups just 50 meters away. Cops had zero issues with the college kids and their open containers, getting sh*t housed, stumbling about. Somehow only this group of predominantly POC caught their ire. (and to be clear, I'm for all of it, all of the hype, the beauty of the marathon day... it IS a party, a celebration.)
Please I live on main st with parades races music many car shows food festivals.. I think these people can handle one day of noisey fans cheering on the runners the city is famous for . These Karen's need to get a grip!
Why weren't there any black police officers as part of the barriers? And am I suppose to believe that a small group of people can make enough noise to vibrate a house?
Also, neither the mayor or the police say they were there for a noise complaint. This "witness" say the cops asked them to turn it down. How does he know? So, we are supposed to believe this group ignored such a request?
The City of Newton, Massachusetts is less than 5% black population-wise. Will be hard to recruit police officers from such an extremely small population sampling.
I remember that section. That group was super loud and their boisterous energy was just was we need at that point. The hills are hard and seeing loud, happy, smiling facing rooting you on just fills your heart and keeps you going. It did look like there was an excessive amount of cops in that section in the video... The cops should have been watching the spectators who were CUTTING ACROSS the course and nearly colliding with runners instead of picking at the ones who would hop in to run alongside their loved one, going WITH the flow of the course. I'm sorry those run clubs who came out to add positivity to the event ended up getting negativity thrown at them. For what it's worth, I really loved their energy!! Perfectly placed and just what we needed!
Certain groups of people can be so obnoxious no matter where they go .........You know who you are.......The ones that complain about everything ........
I read an article about this. They said they're not many black and brown people in the race. Maybe, but the winners are usually Africans from Kenya and Ethiopia.
@Gordon Leigh Clark OR... you two knuckleheads grow up and realize it needs to be a lot of BOTH. Two sides of the same crappy quarter and ya can't even see it being blinded by your own egos.... ..... just a thought.... 🙄😏
The group was well intentioned and were trying to give the runners encouragement but were wrong to jump on the course and run with their friends. Lash said people jump on the course through Wellesley is completely false. Though Wellesley there is a metal barrier and spectators are prevented from jumping in the course. m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9aYoWhx2BMA.html People come from around the world to race the Boston Marathon. The runners take it much more seriously than almost any other marathon. It was wrong to impede runners. The B.A.A. heard people were jumping on the course and asked the police to keep the course clear. After running 20 miles runners don’t have the energy to weave past spectators on the course and have confetti shot on the course that is distracting. The people complaining about the noise are different topic. Runners generally like the noise and support. When the B.A.A. called the police there were a lot of police on the course not doing much and went over to respond and there was a lot of police at that area. I can see that as being an intimidating experience. There was no reason for that many police officers to be there and surround the group. Next year I suspect they will put the metal barriers like they have at other areas with a lot off spectators to prevent people from jumping on the course.
Um. Yes it was Miss I Wasn't There. literally. It was about her. Them. That group. In a sea of TENS OF THOUSANDS OF OTHERS... THAT group somehow needed taming. Not the white girls at the Scream Tunnel (mile 11) or the BC kids or BU kids. Just. This group. 20-30 people of color. Derp
Yes, yes... And people shouldn't J-Walk and blah blah blah letter of law nonsense. How many Bostons have u ran? Cheered on? Been by the BC kids? BU? Scream tunnel at mile 11 or so? This is run culture. We support ours to the core (regardless of persuasion). And we make damn sure - well better than you - to respect EVERY runner bc WE ARE THE RUNNERS. Take a hike with that bs
The report does not say that was the third time neighbors who lived there complained about loud music and people running across the roped course. The BB received several calls It could have been black/white/green/orange/yellow/or rainbow people doing in, the Newton PD would have done the same thing. Why is everything such a race card? grow up people.
I was there running the course. It definitely stood out to me that sections with more Blacks also had a lot more cops. This could be the case of unconscious bias and we definitely should explore the race card MORE in my opinion. For context, this is a minority speaking, so you know, we're usually pushing for there to be more awareness around unconscious racial biases.
They had zero issue Wellesley College (the "Scream Tunnel of mile 11). No probs with the BU kids, BC. No issue with the Nike Heartbreaker RC that was 50 meters up the street. JUST this group. The optics of it speak for itself. Especially when the optics were; they were as hype as just about ANY/EVERY group along the course that day. So that's the problem. Grow up, grow a brainstem, realize ppl don't enjoy spending the time kicking/screaming about unjust responses from authoritative figures.
@@gordonleighclark - This group drew attention to themselves. Stay within on the inside of the barrier rope and you blend in with the rest of the crowd. Negros always want to act "special", thought they complain about Whites be racist.
Nawp. Not buying it. That woman is praying to drag the incident through the mud of racism. It's inconceivable to her that maybe the group was just too rowdy and were behaving badly. Has nothing to do with race, Sweet Cheeks, has everything to do with being a nuisance.
Were you there? (Rhetorical, u weren't.) Did you take in the "Zoom out" of groups acting EXACTLY the same with ZERO police presence?? K. Continue speculating. A multiple x Boston runner (who ran by during this time this yr), you know what you're getting into in that area. And most residences (3 homeowner friends of mine) know JUST what living on that section of road means when it comes to the race. They proudly fly Heartbreaker flags. This was PRONOUNCED micro/macro aggression aka racism. And if there was ACTUALLY an issue of noise disturbance, why not just tell them that? (They never relayed the message, they didn't tell anyone there what the problem was.) If there's a house party going late into the hours do cops show up and surround a place, standing around blank faced and stoic? No. They say turn that ish down, they leave. Nobody gets their kicks taking time outta their lives to whine and complain in hopes to expose a thing. These people, The Pioneers, were there to boost people up. So your speculation, your patronizing "Sweet Cheeks", guess we know which camp of thinking (progressive v maga) u hail from. Mr. Karen
@@gordonleighclark Oh my God. You're actually doing it. You're actually playing the race card. Bwah haw haw haw. That's a good one. There were people of all races at that party. Stop sobbing. The party got out of hand. It isn't even news worthy. What's next? The vast police presence in Southie at the St. Pat's parade is racist too? They don't show up like that for the Feast of St. Anthony in the North End. This must be that micro/macro aggression you mentioned. Where is your over-inflated indignation about that? Or are you selectively victimized? Whenever you morons misbehave and are held accountable you immediately scream "racist". How about this: Try behaving in a way that isn't embarrassing.
@@PedroMartinez-tt7lr News reports indicate that the party was loud and disruptive. And there were a few incidents of the people crossing the barrier and interfering with runners. Now I'm no one to criticize people about being rowdy and having fun. However I will criticize anyone who says this was a racially motivated police action. That's just ludicrous.
They were popping confetti into the race. Im suprised the little dunebuggy swat team didnt just throw em in the wagon. Those were newton police, they probably showed becaue neighbors and locals called the cops.
They were not listening . They told them to stay off the course. It could hurt a runner and remember the marathon there was a bombing before. Thats why lot of police too. The race stuff has got to stop. People are fed up now.
If people were jumping out from behind the ropes, they were wrong. That's all there is. If the police came, somebody called them. So tired of people making everything about race.
@@gordonleighclark this is not accurate. Most areas of the course with a lot of spectators have metal barriers to prevent people from jumping on the course. Lash was wrong about Wellesley. spectators were behind medal barriers and were not jumping on the course m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9aYoWhx2BMA.html The group was well intentioned and can do what they did at smaller events and few would have a problem with it and many runners appreciate the encouragement. The Boston Marathon is different. It has thousands of serious runners who are concerned about their race time. They appreciate the crowd support on the sidelines but it is against the rules for spectators to jump on the course. Runners want a clear route free of spectators. It can bottleneck in that area as some runners slow and others keep their pace and have to find a lane to pass While the groups were wrong, the number of police who showed up did look excessive and being surrounded would be an intimidating experience.
I suspect you're keen on your cousin. Unless you were there, your speculation can keep in the garbage can. Even this news vid is absurd. As an ACTUAL RUNNER who was ACTUALLY THERE it was clear and obvious bias.
@Gordon Leigh Clark so, I want to be clear on this... you were there AND a runner? Yet you stuck around in one spot on the course to watch what transpired over many many minutes? Sure thing. Way to get caught in a lie sugartits. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@Gordon Leigh Clark you're so full of *beep it's hilarious..... "I was a runner in the marathon but I stopped to witness what happened because I just happened to be there when it was gong on" Uh huh... 🤣🤣 Me thinks you may be one of those "stuck on stupid" individuals... ya know... riding "that" bus, smiling and drooling just banging yer noggin off the glass 🤣🤣
@Gordon Leigh Clark the ego to say "I suspect..." and then in your very next sentence to call me out for speculating... I want the drugs YOU'RE on chief....
Newton MA is probably the most Liberal, BLM-sympathetic towns in the entire USA. Probably one of the least likely police departments to be filled with racist cops.
@@briannerk3373 Meh. It couldn't hurt to have a little diversity on the force. And not many of the officers actually live in the town because it's too damn expensive.
It could be that someone called the police and reported this group as a potential problem, leaving the police no options but to respond in this fashion. Especially on the 10th anniversary of the bombing. I wouldn't be so quick to blame the police until all is explained.
@@IamFromPanama - The group admitted they were crossing over the barrier and impeding other runners. There excuse was they've seen others (White people) do it in the past. So for the very Black people who love to say Boston is racist, they will do the very things to draw the racist police to their area?
There's always another option. Even just one of the 2 dozen bicycle and motorcycle cops seen in this video either mentioning to the ranking officer on scene that it doesn't feel right that you're expected to literally "segregate" ONLY a group of black marathon spectators from the race. Or better yet, getting the cops on either side of them to agree that this is wrong and to simply back him up when he brings it up to the ranking officer. Anyone with integrity (or even just human decency) would admit that it isn't right. Assimilating into an indefensibly discriminatory work culture is in fact optional. I've resigned from 2 previous good paying jobs because of this sort of toxic work culture. You may not have the option to get the exact outcome that what you want, but there's no such thing as having "no other option".
KJ Rey: What if a foul deed were done following inaction by the police? Those on scene may disagree with the barricade but what about the what if? Would you resign if you were one of the officers on scene? Did your personal experience involve the question or fear of life threatening injury or death as in 2013? Considering the immediacy of response, what other option? This is a matter of damned if you do or don't, and it's easy to call plays while sitting on the couch watching television or even being there when the decision wasn't yours to make at that moment. In this case I wouldn't apply the idea of not getting the exact outcome that you want, the outcome in this situation in the mind of the decision maker was 2013.
@@gordonleighclark Black Privilege exists dude, look at the T, favoritism in minority hiring and the people complaining are race baiters looking to start trouble.
