I've been hiking in Odlo baselayers for years and have some of their trail running stuff too. Very impressed so far. Everything feels well put together. I also have a Haglofs Lim Crown jacket which is super breathable but so thin it's doesn't feel durable. Only about 7 denier but the breathability is insane for 20K hydrostatic head of waterproofness. I think it's something like 50k+ MTVR.
Needed all 3 layers in London tonight, did a 16k and I felt battered at the end. Really need a dedicated waterproof running jacket and will take the plunge soon.
If you're spending any amount of time running in winter conditions, a waterproof jacket is a good investment Richard 👍 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Good evenning Run4adventure and all the runners. Very interesting equipment. Here my like. For winter in 🇪🇸, I use: thermical tshirt(Mizuno) thermical tights(mizuno), Salomón Bonatti jacket and Asics gel trabuco 9 GTX shoes. A nice weekend for everyone. ⛰⛈🏃♂️🌦🌧
Great video, really enjoyed watching. I got the Harrier Exmoor Jacket a few weeks ago and gave it a good test last Sunday runday out on the south west coast path in some lovely rain. Really pleased how it performed and would highly recommend.
Yeap the Harrier and Alpkit running kit is brilliant value Gemma 👍 I've tested and reviewed a lot of kit from Harrier and I've always been impressed. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏😊
Thanks Loyd! Here in the North of France 🇫🇷 we do have some -10 degrees C with frost. Have some light Nike running base layers, a Nike trail mid layer and a Janiji waterproof 30k/30k vest. Always carry extra gloves, head band and arm sleeves. Always on forest trails!
Sounds like you are well kitted out to handle the colder weather conditions Naim 👌 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Awesome vid…. Thanks for the temperature shout out. No skin exposed in -35 actual/ -50 F wind chill. Snow ski goggles for I protection… ALL about layers in these “breezes” 🥴
Thanks Robert, I'm gkad you thought so. It really is a good system and works in most conditions here in the UK. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏😊
The Smartwool kit is brilliant Gunter! I've used some of they apparel and socks before and they performed really well 👌 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 😊
@@Run4Adventure You're welcome. Love you're channel, maybe you can do a review of the base layers and other stuf of smartwool. Those UK and USA brands are great but very expensive. Taxes and import duties 🤨
One of my favourite pieces of running kit is my long sleeve merino base layer that I picked up at Aldi for about £20. Sleeves a little short on me, but nothing gloves can’t fix 😊 A really useful piece of advice my running coach gave me, is to add 10 degrees C to the weather forecast temperatures to account for body temperature increase whilst running. This really helps me decide what kit to wear. As someone with Raynauds it’s really important for me to keep my arms and hands warm, but that can mean getting too hot with more than one long sleeved layer on. Arm warmers and gilet combo sounds like it could really work for me.
That is good advice Kate 👍 I always tell people to dress for the second mile, it definitely works 😊 I fell your pain, I to suffer with Raynauds and it's not very pleasant! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Another really useful & informative video Loyd. Lots of options to think about for all conditions. I have heard some people say ‘Be bold - start cold’ but I prefer your advice of wearing layers which can later be removed!
I think dressing for the second mile is good advice Roger 😊 I think it really depends on how cold it is when your heading out for a run. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel its really appreciated 🙏
One of the most difficult thing in running lol choosing the good clothes in winter to not run too warm or too freeze lol the weather in my county is nearly like in england lol Grey cold wet and windy...i just want to be back in Spring or summer...i love the saysky stuffs ..i ve got the sleeves..i need some more winter baselayers from Saysky ... 😄☀️👍🇫🇷
It can be really tricky to get it right and I definitely want Summer back! I've had enough of Winter now 😔 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
A good running gilet is definitely missing from my kit. I have a club coloured cycling one but it's a bit 'snug' for running 😁 Funnily enough, I was at a specialist motorbike shop yesterday buying a textile jacket with a membrane. They asked me if I'd heard of layering and wicking and I said ' yeah, somewhat heard of it' 🤣
A running gilet is a great piece of running kit Ian, I'm sure you'd get a lot of use out of it. Hope things are still heading in the right direction, thanks for watching 🙏😊
i wear a t shirt with a Hoka Midlayer long sleeve - not sure what the material thie Hoka Top is but for me it is just right and a pair of Ronhill Gloves - another great Vid - thank you :)
Wow, those Artilect nuyarn baselayers actually seem to be a reasonable price compared to alternatives. I'm currently using the Black Diamond Solution (also nuyarn) baselayers, and it's about the same price while not being running specific. And some of the lighter variants from Artilect are definitely cheaper.
The Artilect kit is definitely worth checking out Imre, I've been really impressed with its performance! I think for the quality you get its not expensive, it's a good investment. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏😊
A lot of running waterproof don’t have put zips, it’s quite rare to see them on a running jacket. Zips can add weight to a jacket and pit zips can get in the way if you are running with a pack 👍
It has been pretty mild so far this year, that's for sure 👍 Don't tempt fate though, well 3 foot of snow next week! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Thanks for the advise mate. I live in Glasgow, and I think it is colder than yours. Do you suggest me to buy Merino base layer or just a standart one for running between Dec-Mar? I’ll get base layer pls t-shirt for kid layer and windproof/water repellent jacket. Probably I’ll some products from Mountain Warehouse and some of them from Decathlon.
To be honest I've still never worn a waterproof jacket that was breathable. If air can get in and out then so can water. I currently use the Ronhill tech fortify jacket which is great but still kinda boil in the bag unless youre really taking it very easy.
If I want to feel less bad when my breathable (totally not windproof) $50 running jacket soaks through, I wear a polyester fishnet baselayer underneath it. It's about minimizing skin contact area with wet stuff and maximizing air gap separation.
I agree that you get what you pay for and have lots of Ronhill stuff but dont dismiss less expensive options - i have base layers and a merino top from Aldi they were a fraction of the price of other shops when i bought them 4+ years ago. There is a 'winter running layering guide' on google images which is usually right ..
You can get some cheaper options that work really well, you just have to shop around to find them. I'd definitely never dismiss less expensive options Alison and I also wouldn't say Ronhill is an expensive brand? I've always had an issue with cheaper Merino being itchy against my skin unfortunately, it just doesn't work for me! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏😊
Another great vid Lyon, thanks. A quick question, what is the waist belt thingy you are wearing at some points throughout the review, I can see it says UTMB but wondering what brand it is?
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. The belt is made Compressport and its called the Free belt Pro, it's a great running belt! Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel it's appreciated 🙏😊
Hey, are you still happy of the harrier jacket ? still the best and cheep compromise ? or i may wait for the black friday for a saysky, salomon, ... ? Thanks for your work !!!!
The Harrier jacket is really good for the money. I'd personally say the Ronhill Shakedry Gore-Tex jacket is my jacket of choice and you might be able to pick one up cheaper now. Hope this helps and thanks for watching John 🙏😊
@@Run4Adventure Most of the time i have it in my backpack. So no need of an astonaut jacket ;) But unfortunately, they don t deliver in Spain ;( Thanks for your time and take care
The belt is from Compressport and its called the Free belt Pro, great belt! The gilet is from SAYSKY and its called, Clean pace vest. Hope this helps Paul and thanks for watching the channel 🙏😊
I don't care about brands to be honest. Two simple baselayers + jacket + good winter tights are always more than enough to run in -5 to -10 degrees Celsius to me. I had 2 runs in minus 14 celsius this year. Actually wasn't big issue and rule number one: do not stay outside too long after your run and you will be ok :)
Thanks for the video, some good advice in there. I also have that Ronhill jacket, and it is without doubt easily the best jacket I've ever had. The only thing I'm concerned about is wearing it with a running pack and the effect it might have on its outer membrane; have you had any experience of this? Has a pack caused any damage? Thanks, and keep up the good work
It's a brilliant jacket Adrian, that's for sure👌 Ive used mine with a pack several times and I haven't had any issues, it seems to be holding up well. Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏😊
