That final scene was on the new breakwall at La Perouse protecting Port Botany when it was first completed. It just had 'Drag Strip' written all over it. There was only one way one and off. If people were racing, the local Highway Patrol just parked at the end and blocked it off. No where for the racers or spectators to go. Very sad if you were racing. Very humorous for the HWP. Everyone got the message and migrated to Kurnell Point and raced on the road out to the Continental Carbon factory. The sandhills are mostly gone now and I don't even know if the factory still exists. Many years ago now. I wish I still had my 6 cyl and V8 Hemi Chargers.
@@shellez101 Yeah, but the road to Continental Carbon was surrounded by sandhills, so there was no irate Karens ringing the Police to give them up. No mobile phones then and the nearest booth was Kurnell near the sports club or near Cronulla Golf Club. I lived about 100m from Cronulla High School for many years, so I knew that area well. (I also worked out of Maroubra Police Station in the HWP, so I know that as far as Kurnell was concerned, the racers were long gone before the Police were even notified that they were there. There was about a dozen locations all over Sydney, they turned up, had about 6 races, then moved on to the next location. Unless witnesses were prepared to make a statement, all the Police could do was hand out defect notices between locations. Awful boring from the point of all concerned. But the order came from higher up. It was not until there was some fatal accidents that laws were introduced for a specific offence of racing and the power to impound cars.
