This is the type of videos i love running into! Where accidents/mistakes happen and get fixed. I want to let you know this video has seriously inspired me to work on a small project aswell. Ive always had this project in mind but what stopped me was overthinking about hitting a pipe or anything of a sort. But seeing this happened isnt so bad. Its fixable thank you for this video!

As an electrical contractor that was rough to watch but you did it, nice work. That wire could have been direct buried with sleeves at the end. Make sure you separate your neutral and ground on that sub panel. Only spot they tie together is in the main next to the meter. I hope you used no-ox on the aluminum wire connections. Cheers!
@lawnrebel
@lawnrebel 3 года назад
I will add the no ox. Yes I can understand that it was painful to watch. I'm not an electrical guy.. More so a lawn rebel. Thank you for your tips

IMO if you dont know to use no-ox on aluminum wire, you shouldn’t be using aluminum wire, just stick with copper, its nearly the same price anyways
@thomasmarable6818
@thomasmarable6818 3 года назад
@@mark33545 no ox not required by code only need to use if manufacture calls for. I know on Sq D QO says not to use no ox on their lugs in 50 amp and up the lugs are already approve for aluminum conductors.

It's been years since NoAlOx was needed. Modern Al cable is actually an alloy that does not require it. Running that CAT5 parallel and close to the power cables is gonna play merry hell with the connection. Normally you try to only cross data & power @ 90 degrees to minimize interference. A 2nd trench at least a foot apart. (I know, too late now and twice the work.) If you can't get a usable connection, do a point to point wireless solution.

These videos are so entertaining to watch. Instead of those videos that are so popular like "How to run power to a shed" or "DIY....." its a "Watch me Run power to my shed" and its representative of people who aren't professionals and/or just watched a few videos on RU-vid, sent it and ran into issues.

finally found a weekend warrior willing to share his trials. Going through a very similar process here and along the way have had many of the same questions as you. why is my neutral and ground bridged on my main lug --- because it's my main lug lol -- do I need to ground my sub panel and yes, I know I can't bridge neutral and ground on sub panels..... anyway. thanks again for taking the time to share.

Remember to drive a ground rod into the ground next to the shed and connect to the ground bus on the sub panel. Also make sure the ground and neutral bar are SEPERATE in the sub panel. Hey, completely off-topic but I have a question I haven’t been able to find an answer to anywhere. I live in Alberta Canada and my lawn along with everyone else’s goes completely brown and dormant in the winter which I know is normal, and my grass will be fine. My question is, in the spring do those brown blades turn green again or does the grass grow new blades? To me it seems like the answer is it grows new blades because every spring I end up with a lot of dead material that doesn’t go away. I’m asking because I’m already looking forward to spring as my lawn is already starting to go dormant, lol. I’m just wondering if I should just scalp all the dead stuff off in the spring so I don’t get matting like I have every other year even after a good raking and don’t have so much dead material in the lawn. Thanks!
