It's absolutely beautiful and although I don't understand a single word, the song moves me deep inside. I came across RUNRIG on a Christmas Eve back in the 80s. The very first song I listened to is famous ALBA - Scotland. I instantly fell in love with RUNRIG and so this music became a true companion throughout my moods. My personal highlight was seeing them playing live in the mid-90s. I'm German and still dreaming of visiting Scotland with all it's treasures. A proud land and home for proud people❤
Faileas air an Àirigh (shadow on the shieling) doesn't directly translate into English, I think, since shieling is a Scots term for a shepherd's shelter or a hut used in remote areas up in the hills. The Scottish Borders town Galashiels gets its name from the term.
There is something very very special about this band...... the music, the feel, the vibe, the sweet melody & tempo... They have a deeply spiritual edge that make them one in a million!
But it's not all sad, I mean they've surely passed things over to great bands like Mánran :) I like to think anyway and have done their purpose I think.

As a resident of the USA, if I hadn't taken a Rabbies Trail Burners tour of the Highlands of Scotland, I probably might never have heard of Runrig. But the tour guide guy, Fred Stewart, made Runrig the music he mostly played. I simultaneously fell in love with Scotland, especially the Hielands, and Runrig.

The choir sent chills down my spine and put a lump in my throat. No idea what the guy is saying but it is some powerful stuff, I can tell by their passion.
Rory MacDonald co founder with his brother literally behind him percussionist is Calum MacDonald back in 1973 founded Runrig quite by accident sort of (back then the Run-Rig Dance Band, the name or whatever Run Rig being a farming method in the Highlands).

Having been to Runrigs brilliant live performance at the Manchester Apollo recently and then buying Beat the Drum DVD followed by Day of Days DVD, I have only just discovered this beautiful tune. An Englishmen but I love hearing songs like this in Gaelic; it lifts the soul. I hope that they perform it live next year although I doubt it as they do not tow a Gaelic choir around with them. But just a lovely tune! And Runrig is exceptional. What other group performs only their own material?

The best album is searchlight. Mystic and the song with my brother,...den schönsten Arsch der Welt.... Gaby...ich träume schon seit vielen Jahren von Schottland. In my dreams I was a poor girl, lived in the near of a small village in a small House of stone. There was a small wooden bed with sheep skin . In the middle a pott,I only had one spoon , eine große Kelle! And a knife. The surrounding was beautiful. A small garden on the left side and a small lake on the right one. Green gras everywhere. Rocks with black Stones. And I could walk through a small path downstairs to the shallow water. There was no sand beach. Only DARK Stones. And Loch Ness Lake was Not far away. I lived in the lowlands. My boyfriend was Highlander. There were battles again between the clans and he promised me to come back. Every night over nearly 40 years I dreamt this dream till today. Waiting for my Highlander. Nessi seams to be a liopleudodon from ancient Times, I think. Run into the Light is also one of my favourite songs. Some day I intend to come to Scottland. "There is a shaddow on the beachhead" I believe is the translation. My Gaelic is rather second hand and southern. The lyrics seem to speak about people leaving the islands but always having a connection. Hope that helps.

Joseph Flanagan was wont to give a dram to his donkey Phil, to raise the pesky individual's mood as he put it. I did not condone this practice with Rainbow for my part, because I thought a dram was better put in a human than a donkey. I mean no offence to Rainbow of course, as I salute his hardiness and humour in facing the rain lashing down like water without whisky, from the breath of the mighty Atlantic
