I know I have Commented so many times on this Brilliance by Runrig, I just had to as this is my Favourite all Time Runrig Song & Hearing it on Bruce’s Funeral Sevice in Cape Breton (Canada) After his Death after Cancer I just had to Comment. Rory Was Amazing playing on his Guitar at the Funeral Service & Singing “Singing Hearts of Olden Glory” Was A Brilliant Tribute !! I hope the Legacy of Runrig will Continue & The Use of the Scottish Gaelic Culture & Music will Continue Forever. As A Proud Scot My Self I hope this Will Happen.

Danke Runrig! Schottland ist großartig und wunder schön 💖

Just back from an amazing week on Skye, I am from South West Scotland, but up in the Highlands of Scotland is magical, away from all the 'modern city living'. Listening to this on the couch in the dark with volume up, the hairs on the back of my neck are standing, I would go as far as saying it has a spiritual effect on the Scottish blood in our vains!!!👏👏👏

coming on a 500 mile journey.. to a place this sassenack calls home. May last year I met the girl of my dreams (unfortunately it was at my friends daughters funeral) he introduced us at one point during the night. the night my journey home began... I drank whiskey that night with a Scottish colleague of his, chatted idly to this beautiful Scottish lass from invergordon in the highlands... then the dj played loch lomond ... straight away I fell in love with the band and my new found lass. we sang and danced like never before... now I too live in the highlands. a place of beauty, tranquillity and peace... Scotland is my home and I am proud to call it so. long live running, long live the home of the brave 😎

And from that point onwards for a while it was unclear if or how Runrig would live one. Then Bruce came to fill the void Donnie had left. And he did a marvellous job not by replacing Donnie, but by carving his own path with the band. You can't replace a person. You can only pick up what they have left and create something new. And that's what Bruce did together with the remaining band.

There's even a Runrig song that mentions Greenock - and the MacDonald brothers' father had a best mate in the army from Greenock in WW2. Very sadly, that man was killed in his tank. Mr MacDonald took Rory to meet his family in Greenock and they gave Rory their son's accordian - Rory's first musical instrument. So Runrig and Greenock are strongly connected.

I'll enjoy this whole 1997 gig while I work this afternoon. Michael Gove's snide remark to Pete Wishart MP today brought me back here. I sold my last kit in 1993 and the only positive thing I have to say about Gove's EU Withdrawal Statement is that he reminded me of Runrig and Donnie singing in Gaelic. @20:28 the days before smartphone lights in which the fire officers tolerated scorch burns on gig gear!

Better without Donnie in my opinion. without him they could have eclipsed U2. but that is not the Runrig way. Donnie is unique, but his voice doesnt have popular appeal, Bruce does! They realised too late, but I get the impression it didnt matter,. To me they love what they do and climbing to the top of the greasy pole is the last of their considerations Long live Runrig and all who have sailed in her!

Donnie's voice doesn't have popular appeal?? I suggest you read the comments posted on any youtube site where Runrig's music plays. Donnie's voice is hugely, hugely! appealing to the public at large.

So Runrig fans like Donnie´s voice? Well Well! That´s like saying Catholics follow the Pope. Ask any of the great unwashed out there and you will find most of them have never even heard of Runrig. Lack of radio play was one reason. They hardly ever get played outside of Scotland in the UK Another was Donnie. He just didnt have mass appeal in the way that the likes of Bono or; even Jim Kerr did. I read one review where the critic wrote "The lead singer (couldnt even be interested enough to look his name up) struts like Jim Kerr with rickets" I took friends with me to concerts and the general opinion was "The band are great, but the singer spoils it" ;Hardly "Hugely appealing to the public at large" then. A lot of them came on board when Bruce arrived.
