Hey, guys! Packer fan from the Brazilian South over here. What's been left out of the discussion by the American media is the fact that Green Bay has consistently been a Top 3 fanbase in Brazil. That alone means the game will be sold out - because of the cable-only broadcast/coverage in the country, most fans of [American] football hail exclusively from middle/high-income families, and thefore will be able to attend. Plus, any major event (sports or concerts) in Brazil is sold out once it gets national media attention. Also, one of the reasons why GB is so popular in Brazil is because of the colors - same as our flag's ("flag green" and canary yellow) and the famous jerseys worn bu Brazil's national football (soccer) team. GO PACK GO! #BRASIL

I live in Green Bay and fly out every week… what is Mark talking about? The Green Bay airport hosts Air Force One which is a 747.. what aircraft would the Packers be flying? They currently fly out on a 757 and 767.. those all fly internationally. Lastly GRB is an international airport as we have the security needed for international flights… we have lots of private planes that fly internationally and return… so let’s stop all the BS.. as a third generation season ticket holder… we don’t want to lose a home game… has nothing to do with the size of the airport. Come on Murphy… don’t make GB seem that small!!!

IT should be noted that the game in question for Brazil which the Packers are being consdered for is against the Eagles. Green Bay is currently scheduled to go TO Philly this year so they would be giving up a road game, not a home game. They will have 9 home games this season.

Green Bay is a hugely international brand. Just look at how much they took over London vs the Giants

The longest runway at Green Bay is 8700' and you need to add just under 5% to takeoff length for the 695' of elevation. That also assumes no wind, a dry runway, and not a hot day. The question comes down to how much fuel do you want to carry? It's a long way to Sao Paulo but the extra fuel means a longer runway. The 767-ER (extended range) has plenty of range, but wants just over 8700' of runway at sea level when fully loaded so about 9100' in Green Bay, which is a problem. Not filling the fuel tanks allows for a shorter runway but provides a smaller safety margin if the flight time runs longer than expected.

One of the reasons the Packers haven't played overseas is also other teams don't want to give up a home game that they play against the Packers because their fans travel so well and it's almost a guaranteed sellout for them as well.

It should be 8 home games, 8 road games, and 1 international game for everyone.

They usually fly on a Delta 767 out of Green Bay. That can fly them to Brazil. They must want to fly a 777, but even then 8,000 feet should be plenty of runway in GB.

They need to protest these international games. I hate it when the Bills lose a home game, it puts them at a disadvantage in the close race.

It seems to me that this is where the NFL scheduling should consider that if a runway is the problem for GB that maybe they should leave after an away game down south (Dallas, Tampa, Miami, Atlanta) to head to Brazil, instead of going back home and then departing from GB.

It won’t be home game less for the Packers 😂. Packers have to play the Eagles away this year they’ll still have 9 home games 7 away and 1 international game.

Any airport can be an international airport. It depends on the Customs and Immigration arrangements and designation. There are many small airports along the U.S. Canado border designated and serviced as such. Of course, a lot of the international flights in/out of them are short range private (general aviation) Cessnas, Leer jets, etc. Range and size of the aircraft and runway requirements are another thing entirely and have nothing to do with the "international" designation.

Packers complain about taking a rerouted flight... Seattle had to fly all the way to Germany to play Tampa Bay... the travel time difference is insane. Packers can suck it up.

Imma just say it. The packers don't need a "Home" internationally country. There are packer fans in EVERY country. I went to Australia 16 years ago and I said I was from Green Bay and the response was "Oh! The packers?"

I don't see a problem at giving up a game stateside for international - we now have 17 games, use the extra game for international and nobody gives up anything.

Green Bay has a 8700 ft runway. Except the brand new 777s, any major airliner should be able to get in and out of that airport no problem. What a weird excuse to hold on to a home game everyone else has to give up.

If playing overseas is so great, the NFL should pay the lengthen all runways that need to be lengthened. Then have ALL the teams play ALL of the their games overseas. The NFL is punishing its fanbase for greed. Clear and unmistakeable.

No one that is playing the Packers wants to give up a home game against them because the Packers fans travel so well. Most have higher attendance when the Packers are in town. That's why they were last to play international. It's all about the money.

Sounds like a weight issue where the plane can't take off with the amount of needed fuel to make it there due to runway length.

i've been to Brazil - it is dangerous to go there now......better off going to Argentina.

Widebody aircraft routinely go out of that airport. Brazil is just not reacheable without a fuel stop. Weather huge factor. Why pay more when you can stay home. Also weight of the plane, with all that travels with a team. Aviation geek moment, International means they have facilities to accomidate international flights.

The Packers were saying they would need a bigger plane and would have farther to go. Don’t think it’s an excuse but it’s not about what’s in Brazil; it’s about GB.

Just use the same airport and planes you normally use for away games. Does that GM realize the packers topple this scenario 8 times a year when traveling to play other NFL teams.

The obvious counter to what Mark Murphy is saying is to make their international partner Canada or Mexico. They can clearly fly from Green Bay to Toronto or Winnipeg or Mexico City.
