The lyrics were inspired by Neil reading the story of Ernest Hemingway being invited to write a speech for JFK’s inauguration ceremony. When he sat down to right it, he couldn't come up with a single word for 3 hours. And that's when he knew he'd lost it. This is why ”the sun will rise no more” and ”the bell tolls for thee ” are in the lyrics.

Ben Mink on the Electric Violin is a great touch for this song. Also most people miss Neil on the Xylophone at the beginning

Anger, rage and despair cryed out in the violin and drums. Tears at the soul. This has slowly crept up through the years to reach the top, above all others... Well then there is La villa strangiato, they can share the spot in my book.

The only Rush that I wasn't concentration on what Neil was playing and doing. I imagine myself in the control room at the studio while Ben is strumming this. Absolutely breath taking.

Words, other than Neil's lyrics, will not do justice to this song, or to Rush's magnificence. This is them at perhaps their most sweetly melancholic.

Great choice again. Earlier, I was not paying attention on this song but I totally agree with you. I know this song was only played live on few occasions. Hope your will do few songs from Grace Under Pressure next or Everyday glory from Counterparts album...I have not seen anyone has done reactions video.

While I love Second Nature, I have never heard anyone describe it as their favorite Rush song. What a testament to their evolving sound over a 40 year career! Since that and Losing It are your favorites, I highly recommend going to hdtracks.com and buying the hi-res versions of Signals and Hold Your Fire. There a nuances that I promise you’ve never heard off a CD or MP3. When I got the hi-res version of Mission, there were entire string parts that I’d never heard before, even though I’d been listening to the song for 30 years, probably over 500 times. I wept when I finally heard it for the first time.
