Quite literally the only part of the otherwise serious and disturbing investigation I felt I could laugh at. The rest was surrounded by godawful Brand sex maniac humour.
Me too! I had my opinions about Russell yrs ago, but recently I've watched his new stuff and pushing making up your own mind about the political/media shit the world is going thru, to actually being impressed with his articulated smart and charming ways. But now with this new shit coming down on him I wanted to make a smart and educated opinion, well just at least know what I was talking about if his name came up in conversation with someone in the near future! Yeah he probably did do what he is being accused of, which is too bad, cuz he is a good entertainer and I do respect his opinions on how things are in America today. So I feel sorry for him. BUT, he's done some pretty messed things in the past and needs to take accountability for those mistakes then move on learning from those mistakes! He would get much more respect from those he has wronged in the past! Cone on Russel, admit you did some shitty things, got caught, realized got help, living a better life since then clean and sober! Don't be a cunt, own what you did, apologize then move on! Do the decent thing, peoples memories suck you'll be back in the saddle again in no time! Just my opinion, that's all!
Hahaha same! I'm looking for the closing joke that he ad-lib adjusted to slag geldof instead of that other sorry soul who was a bit washed out on the evening in question!
@Blizdegs I agree about your opinion of Geldof. He can be a very miserable sod at times. I just find it bewildering that Brand, for whatever reason, is so popular and I just find him totally repulsive and nauseating.
Russell wrote the retort beforehand, as he foresaw Geldof coming out with an insult resulting from his introduction he gave him, as well as sly remarks he made about Bono "accepting an award via a satellite orbiting his own ego". Brilliant.
even if he did have this prepared RB is very quick witted, i believe this is widely acknowledged. If it was like you say "prepared" then it speaks volumes about Brand for not mentioning it, it was clearly only said as a retort to being called a "xxxx". Wouldnt you agree? Its clear to those living in the real world whos more the money grabber and false prophet is
Bob Geldof was in a band called the Boomtown Rats They had a song called "I dont like Mondays" years ago and it was a big hit. He hasnt done a good song since. Brand is basically saying that Geldof is a has-been
@@jamdown1ifynot much of comeback really. Geldof listing some seriously impressive stats showing he’s been involved in humanitarian relief since live aid, and so what if he’s known for one song, it’s a goodun and one more than brand can muster. One of these men has integrity and the other just likes making women choke on his dick.
Never been a fan of Bob Geldof he wouldn't allow Paula Yates to bring the girls to Australia with Michael Hutchinson & sadly Michael died in Australia & always been a fan of Russell he is innocent until proven guilty
Geldof's mistake was giving him a minute or so for a response. He could have fired something back within a few seconds but really had chance to tone it to perfection!
What a dick! Not only did he make fun of Bob's name, but did you see the smirk in his face when he shook Bob's hand? Not sure what's behind this animus between the two.
Pretty uncalled for by Bob Geldof. I decided to search for this video after reading about this in Booky Wook 2 in which Russel said that he was always a massive fan of Bob since growing up so it's no wonder that you could tell it hurt him.
Different sense of humour? Agreed. "I did get that Geldof's comment as a joke just like Brand's." I suspect that it is this particular conception of yours which has been the cause for the 'thumbs down' you were curious about earlier.
that's so unnecessary; does geldof really think that sort of behaviour will endear him to anyone, regardless of whether they are a fan of Russell Brand or not. Russell's clearly quite annoyed by that, but takes it pretty well.
@cosmocreeper Brand actually had that comeback before the show even started. :) He says in his comedy special dealy "Shame" that he knew Geldof would say something smug so he wanted to have something to say back in advance. :)
@OfficeAndOcean Actually, matey, Russell wrote about this in his second book. His mate matt wrote the joke to use in the event of bobby saying some like that. He's actually quite compassionate and has good morals about offensive jokes. I know this because I picked up a book and read it, maybe don't make judgements from what you read in the tabloids. That is all.
Neither of them "wrote" it. It's a pretty standard roast to accuse an artist of dining off their greatest success. Geldof and the Rats had plenty of big sales, before and after Mondays.@@hellcat19832
NOT a great idea.... Crossing swords with a professional comedian in front of a live audience AND on TV.. Especially someone with a razor sharp wit like Russell Brand, geldorf asked for that. Gandolf asked for that lol. I remember Bob Geldorf Aid in 84. The money raised and publicity really helped out a badly needed mediocre Rock singer. I used to know someone who knew someone in London who , in turn knew someone who told him Geldorf use to pay something like three times as much for his coke cos he didn't want it getting out to the public hehe.
Go Russell. Geldof seems to think all the amazing work he's done gives him free reign to be a complete arse hole. The way he turns and smirks at Russell after he insults him, ugh. Clearly didn't know what he was dealing with - Russell is far too quick witted for him. Bet he didn't think he'd reply with something like that!
Yeah affectionately calling someone Bobby instead of Bob is comparable to calling someone a cunt, apparently... Lol. How old is geldoff again? Nothing worse than an arrogant, rude, wealthy, hypocritical preacher. Giving to charity doesn't make you a decent person to others, evidently.
@JRAD897 One of manny highlights of Booky Wook 2 - i've seen this clip manny times now but to get the thoughts Russell and Matt had before and while the award-show was on is fantastic. Especially the extra Geldof-joke, him being a homeless-looking-man...
Brand would have been ready with his come back in one tenth of a second but geldolf made a school boy error giving him 2 mins to work out how to destroy him!
Notice how geldof doesnt say it to russell when he's right near him? Only to say the things he did when he was about 5 feet away and when he had the audience to play up to.
Haha I love this clip! You've got to love the bit where everyone is applauding Geldof, the camera pans around the room and all I can notice is Peaches trying to get her friend trashed on wine at the bottom of the screen. Brilliant! Brand only said what we've been thinking for a long long time... after all, what else was Bobby Gandalf famous for?
Cringing for you. He's not famous for don't like mondays. He's famous for live aid. You may have heard of it?? One of the biggest charity events ever?? Also, he's never been accused of rape, so there's that.
I know, although you can hear the gaffuws just underneath the "oooohs...." Luckily, it has got the recognition it deserved - still referenced to this day... :)
A quote from Russell Brand’s, Booky Wook 2 speaking about his comeback line “Well, you may’ve fed the world but you just broke my heart, Geldof. I was eviscerated, up there. I stood at the side of the stage, white and silent with no recourse. Except I had that line.”
