I've been in the US for 25 years, and at least once a day I get some woman say "I love your accent, I could listen to you all day!" If I'm with my Anne, she usually says "You can have him for $25 per hour!"

I remember being in Canada and a group of girls heard my accent and asked me if I was a pop star. I told them I was the drummer in Oasis and has them follow me around for the rest of the day 😂

It's not just youngsters that are pissed. I've just turned 16 ( I was 61 when I turned it). The way they're treating "OUR" N.H.S. is just diabolical. 😔🇬🇧🇺🇸💜

His sister is vastly under appreciated as an actor. They fact that she made you hate the character in Him and Her shows how good she is. I thought the character was vile too - but Kerry's portrayal of shock on her character's wedding day, is one of the best bits of acting I've seen

Three of us Brits Engineers were down in Atlanta Georgia, in a bar have drinks and a meal, before we new it there 8 women sitting around us , asking us to say different words, they were having a great time with our pronunciation.

When I was in South Carolina with my (now) ex, filling up at a petrol station, she asked me to get a receipt, so I went in and asked for one. The first thing the young woman said was, "I love your accent!" After I replied, "Thanks." and told her where I was from and why I was over in the US, the next thing she said was, "You should do an audiobook."

Aussie here. The "Say something" thing happened to a good mate of mine when he was in Nashville, Tennessee. It was a hot day and he was a bit thirsty, so he wandered into a bar and bought a beer. As soon as he spoke to the barman, everyone in the bar took notice. They ended up buying him drinks just to listen to him talk. SIX HOURS later, he staggered out of the bar, shit-faced, falling down, legless drunk - and became that way for the price of one single, solitary beer! America really is the land of opportunity, especially if you have an accent and a good line of bullshit to go with it!

I once got complimented by a shop assistant in an American shop, on how well I spoke English as I was from the UK.

Watching so much Brit TV I pick up on regional accents. In Disney World I was sitting next to a group from the UK, I asked were they from the north of England. They were from Manchester.

As someone said, the Greta Thunberg interview is really good, really empathetic. Forget an English accent in PA - a Scottish accent while wearing kilt made for a very interesting night in PA (once the ladies realised they had to warm their hands first)

Im think it was in the series, Frazier where the nurse was told she had an English accent! No she answered. I speak English and you speak with an accent!! 😁

The John Lewis ads are a national institution - I defy you to find a Brit that hasn't seen at least one, if not all!

The English accent thing works both ways too. Most of the time the Americans do love it, but I was a director for an American clothing company and at my first style review (Before the garments hit the stores) we had to comment on them as they were modelled for us. I saw one item which was stunning, and I said "This item will go a bomb in the stores" The whole meeting went silent and I was asked to explain my reasoning. It was at that moment that another director explained that "Bombing" in the American vernacular means it is rubbish, whereas in Britain "Going a bomb" means it is great. Like you, Amanda, I had to learn that although we both speak English, certain words have different meanings as they cross the Atlantic.

Regarding accents, I was on a ski holiday to Vail about three decades ago. On two separate occasions an early to mid teenager asked me where I was from. I turned it back on them and asked "Were do you think I'm from?" They couldn't have got it much more wrong, they were in the wrong hemisphere. I've always lived in Central Scotland but they thought I was Australian 😳

She also did the voice calling out to Elsa in Disneys Frozen 2, both in the movie and in the song "into the unknown. The John Lewis advert 'The Man on the Moon' is my favourite one and was for 'Age UK' to show how lots of old people are lonely at christmas.

What's a bit odd is that I (born in the same county as Russell Howard, btw) watch a lot of RU-vid, and you accent is the best non-European accent I've ever heard. im from Thrapston in Northamptonshire i was born at 36 Highfield Road on the 11/11 /1960 and we had about 8 different accents in our local area even i could hardly make out some from a few miles away but it was a fun time to live

The John Lewis advert is called Man on The Moon from almost 3 or 4 years ago, and yes it is abit creepy. But if you want a suggestion for another review, can I suggest A Tribute to BSM Williams. Trust me.

I've got a reasonably 'posh' British accent and I do my best impression of Hugh Grant when in the States. I reckon I could get away with murder, but I haven't tried it! There's a whole list of John Lewis Christmas adverts and the best (in my humble opinion) is Edgar the Dragon.
