Rusted Jammed Pliers Tool Restoration - Mirror Finish | Mister Patina
I started with an inspection and found out, that the pliers didnt even work. So i put them into white vinegar for 12 hours and brushed them with a wirebrush in water with industrial cleaner. The result was good, the pliers was able to move but had serious rust left. So i put the pliers in my sandblasting cabinet and gave them a nice blast with fine granules. After sandblasting the pliers, i could see some serious marks and defects left on the surface. I filed for a long time to get rid of most of the defects, but some marks would be left.
After sanding from 80/120/180/240/320 to scotch brite, the surface was very good and ready for mirror shine polishing. I started the mirror polish with the hard compound, and ended it with a fine compound for ultimate mirror shine. After that, the surface was very shiny altough some defects and marks were still left. But thats the Patina ;-)
This time i filmed the process of putting some oil on it for rust protection. I used regular machine oil, you could also use car wax etc.
The Final result of the Pliers Restoration isnt perfect, it had several holes and serious marks still left. But i think a Little Patina isnt wrong :)
I hope you like the video, thanks for watching!
If you have any questions or suggestions, you can write an email, i try to answer asap.

here are some tips that i think might help you in the future: 1. leave it in vinegar way longer (1-2 days) than before 2. use the wire wheel right after the vinegar bath 3. id use the files as a finishing touch to smoothen out the edges
