New Rut Mfg tree slayer on my KX040-4 Mini Excavator. FIrst time using it on some light brush and grinding down a few stumps. I previously bush hogged this area with my skid steer about 9-10 months ago, and now I came back to grind down stumps so that it can be mowed over with a tractor.

Nice unit. I was thinking about the tree slayer for my machine. What thickness material are u able to cut and does it throw material very far.

I haven't used it to cut down anything major, but it did whack down a 5" tree with a couple hits. The stump grinder worked very well. Its no mulcher, but it does well and i think it works faster. It did throw limbs around and stuff like any cutter would, but there is a large plate between the spinning blade and the cab. I don't feel scared operating it with open cab. Though i do use safety glasses and a hardhat with a face shield.

@@NealORussa If you really put that cutter to work you will want more than a face shield. You can definitely use the back plate and angles to greatly reduce debris flying at the operator but I have had some real zingers hit the cab. Today in fact.

@@tannerclagett3407 thanks tanner! I recently tapped all the screw hole bungs that are threaded and welded to the rops front bar. I plan to mount some expanded metal to the front.

@@NealORussa Great idea, thanks for your other video on how you plumbed and setup the one way valve. I have a different machine so it wasn't quite the same but it cleared up my understanding of what to do.

I've got the same machine and thinking about the Rut Tree Slayer or the Disc Mulcher. Would you choose the tree slayer again or go with a brush cutter or dedicated mulcher?
@NealORussa
@NealORussa Год назад
Man I don't know I just used it for 3 hours last night cutting up bigger trees and brush. There were probably 4 of them in the 6" range that maxes out this machine. Probably 15-20 in the 3-4" range. And a ton below that all the way down to grass. It's a good do it all machine. But it doesn't mulch up debris fine like a mulcher. And it's not a perfect grass cutter compared to a brush cutter with longer blades. After I got done I put the bucket back on and pushed all the debris up into pile along the back edge of the woods where I cleared. It's my understanding a drum mulcher can make wood chips which would be nice. But it also can't just chop down a 30' tall tree with a 6" base. I think they kind of needs to start up high and work their way down to the base from what I've seen on other videos.

@@NealORussa That's kind of what I'm afraid of with this machine. I do know the Rut Disc Mulcher for Excavators can be bought with an option 2-blade mower head, which adds $400 to the total. I think this is the route I'm taking, but also seriously considering the MTL Attachments Excavator brush cutter. Just weighing what I need on our property in W, KY

@@toddallison4390 oh I thought you were talking about a drum mulcher. I'm not familiar with the disk mulcher. I understand what it is but I've never seen one work. Letsdig18 has a couple videos of using a drum mulcher on a mini. I don't quite understand the concept behind a disk mulcher but I guess it's just a heavier flywheel than my tree slayer and has larger teeth on it instead of blades. Seems like it wouldn't cut grasses

It's on their site now for about $5900. Check out my new video on the tree slayer. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TVmxmsgyODk.html

Rut says I can run my machine in hammer mode. Do you have case drain.

Check out my channel. I have a couple other videos on this kx040. One shows how you turn the valve to make the return line a case drain. And one shows the computer settings to adjust flow rates.

Hmm no I haven't heard of the blade carrier? What is that?
@VansHomeServices
@VansHomeServices 2 года назад
@@NealORussa for an extra $400 you can get a carrier with just bush hog style blades. You unbolt the rotary cutting head and bolt up the blade carrier.
@NealORussa
@NealORussa 2 года назад
@@VansHomeServices hmm I don't see any reason to spend another $400. The 3 blade carrier with the carbide teeth on mine cuts brush just fine.
@VansHomeServices
@VansHomeServices 2 года назад
@@NealORussa i am mistaken, i was thinking you had the mulcher without the blades.
@NealORussa
@NealORussa 2 года назад
@@VansHomeServices gotcha. I'm not sure if the disk mulcher would have a different motor or what but this one does bog down the machine a bit when it grabs a stump with the carbide teeth. Not sure how well it would run a disk mulcher unless the mass of the disc was just sop heavy that it kept itself spinning. It seems to want to "grab" when grinding a stump and since its way out there at the end of your boom/stick it has quite a bit of free play to allow it to get sucked down and grab. Compared to a mulcher on a skid steer, the short stubby skid arms wouldn't allow as much free play I don't think.
