I swear on my Almighty Father himself that, while he was foul-mouthed, he saw the bigger picture: a majority of the sinners you try to redeem make many mistakes and repeat them without remorse. If they get to Heaven they will fall back into unsavory practices and cause untold suffering on innocent Heaven dwellers. Hell is the only place they can be their true selves...and even then they regularly travel to the mortal realm to torture the living for fun. Honestly- Azrael's perspective on the matter of redemption is so interesting because he's the angel who interacts with mortals the most, specifically, at their absolute lowest moments. Azrael has been the witness of the aftermath of gruesome murders and so much worse- HE'S SPOKEN to the people who've suffered, and with the nature of some sins, it wouldn't be hard to come to the conclusion of 'If there was any humanity left- no one would be dead right now.' Ruthlessness is genuinely mercy to Azrael- be ruthless in order to protect those who lost their entire lives to sinners. And maybe it would be nice to think the Sinners could change- but Charlie hasn't seen these people. Not in the same way Azrael has- and so, if it means protecting those who once lacked the power to protect themselves, Azrael will show no mercy.
And yet at the same time, sometimes the worst things some of these sinners have done is harm upon themselves. Angel Dust and Valentino are two great examples - Angel Dust ultimately died of an OD canonically, and while he did come from a crime family and so we can assume that he hurt people (I use the word as an overview), I don't think he took pleasure in hurting them the way Valentino does which is why he abused drugs as his way to escape his reality which ultimately lead to his death. Now speaking of Valentino, we can assume some of his sins just based off his Sinner form and abilities: he probably drugged & trafficked people, while also probably taking advantage of them along the way and enjoyed it the entire time, and of course he probably murdered some too and if he did unintentionally then he didn't care. The dichotomy of Heaven and Hell is quite literally reduced to black & white thinking: there are only good people who go to Heaven, and bad people who go to Hell. There's no gray area for judgement, no thought on how an individual soul felt about their own misdeeds/crimes/sins, which we even see in Ep 1 of Helluva Boss with the Sinner who orders the hit on her ex-husband. Up until that moment she had lead a good, sin-free life, and she is in distress about the fact that she forgot it's her husband's birthday; and then she calls him (in front of her students, because she obviously wasn't expecting what pops on screen) just to see that he's unfaithful, and she snaps (in court she'd probably get away with pleading temporary insanity/psychotic break honestly) and ends up in Hell. I can't remember but I think she even makes a remark about that, how unfair it is to be punished eternally for reacting to someone else's sinful way, and of course how her husband and his mistress ended up gaining the perfect life through their sins. Now obviously they also probably end up in Hell, but that's exactly what's wrong with the system and what Charlie is trying to get the higher-ups to see. I mean, even her father says, "OUR PEOPLE ARE TERRIBLE", but yet there are sections of Hell that are just playing with the hand they were dealt - like Cannibal Town. Cannibal Town is obviously full of cannibals, including children (which now that I'm saying that I'm wondering if those weren't references to the little kids from HB), but they don't go around murdering each other like you tend to see in the rest of Hell. Even Charlie acknowledges "Oh wow this is nice" when Alastor brings her to see Rosie, who is taking her citizen's concerns and trying to resolve them without violence, and if Charlie has never been to CT then what are the chances that Lucifer has? "Ruthlessness is Mercy on our sins" DAMN that hits hard in a hazbin context and DAMN does Azrael look FAN-tastic! I always love it when other mythologies cross over and the Odin in Azrael's design is SO WELL DONE!! Genuinely applauding, amazing work!

I love how this pushes Charlie to actually see the problems she will need to help them overcome their vices. My only issue with your added lyrics is where Charlie says they made “A mistake” These guys have made plenty of mistakes intentionally or unintentionally, so I personally say to remedy this is to get rid of the a and add an “s” to mistake. I’ve been watching your work for a while now Kaledya, and I quite enjoy how this is coming along, and I can’t wait to see what else you’ll do for this version of Hazbin Hotel!
Idk, I kinda like it that she said a mistake, like them being condemned is just an bitty bitty single mistake. Highlighting the naivety of her about the sinners sins being more severe than a simple mistake

I liked this counter point from Azrael, sinners made mistakes in the past and unlike the living they never fixed their mistakes and lives were lost that there is no return for, there is no way to fix what they did to their victims (a redemption could first be talk with those who lost their lives by the sinners and see if they could forgive them)
I like Azrael design. That he have crows in his shoulders (this birds represent to be guide in after life.) And his half skull which also represents death.
I feel like people really connected with Pilot Charlie because most people start with the same worldview as her at some point in their lives- a well-meaning optimism towards helping others that lacks any understanding of the many, many hurdles people face to make them the way they are. Charlie in the main show never grows out of this in any meaningful way, at least in season one, but I really like that in this animatic/AU she is forced to take a hard, practical look at what she really wants to accomplish and all that entails. Especially since it’s coming from a more serious character like Azrael that Charlie respects and doesn’t have baggage with like Adam. Charlie’s refusal at the end is admirable, but has the potential to end up leading her into making as much of a stubborn mistake as her father if not kept in check by her friends/Vaggie; which is a very interesting addition to her arc that I like a lot! Anyways all this is to say great job, I love your art! 👏
Headcanon: I don’t know if there’s a canon reason yet for his half skull, but I think it’d be interesting if it was burnt off when Lucifer fell, and maybe that’s why Azrael seems to be adamant on shutting down Charlie’s dreams here.
This take on the angel of death? Yes, every sort of yes and praise in the book. His concept alone floors me, and the presentation of him with Charlie is top friggin notch and reminds me of the 'classic 2d era of Disney but in the good way' of musical movies that I grew up with. The crows talking for him is wonderful and whimsy but also lore accurate, along with his powers as the Angel of death. (Mirror scenes and showing the deaths showing a 'darker' side to his work.) He's what I call a 'show dont tell' sort of character and I love those types where you can 'look at him in action and get a slight feel for what his story is by just watching him in action alittle.' And it's easy to figure out through guesswork and watching if you pay close enough attention or rewatch a few times. Your designs are top notch, out of all the 'angels of death' designs, this one came out and hit me the hardest with impressing me when it came to hazbin and other takes on Azreal that touch on this guy. (I'm picky when it comes to my angel lore so seeing this guy? Yea he won me over, esp cementing it with the 'puss in boots' scene too.xD ) I tip my glass to you, again you somehow pulled off an amazing feat with this Au and I am hooked. I hope to see more from your friend and yourself on it! P.s. I love it! I unfortunately haven’t listened to all the EPIC songs (though “Warrior of the Mind” and “My Goodbye” are absolute bangers) so it’s awesome to listen to more songs from it as well as see more of your AU! I loved how you made Azrael expressionless during most of it, which I adore since it makes sense with an angel of death: they do not take pleasure in killing, it’s just a part of the job. The detail of his crows doing the talking is also really cool. To me at least, it conveys a sense of Azrael trying to separate his emotions from himself to make said job easier. And the detail of WHEN each crow talks is very nice. When the black crow speaks, it’s speaking/singing almost exclusively when talking about Charlie’s dream. And when the white crow speaks, it is talking about Charlie herself. Now, if I recall correctly, I believe one of the other archangels said that if the black crow speaks to you, it means Azrael doesn’t like you, and if the white crow speaks to you, it means he thinks you’re ok. So, amazing job overall!

Azrael is so serious, you can see that he cares a lot about his task but in any case he doesn't seem particularly aggressive towards Charlie, unfortunately they have two very different experiences and points of view. It would have been interesting if Charlie had already met Azrael when she was a child, maybe she would have understood his role better and he might have had more empathy for her. Charlie is still his granddaughter in a way. Anyway, great animation!!❤❤ (sorry for the mistakes but I'm Italian)
I don't know if it's just me but whenever i look at this design it reminds me so much of Odin from Record of Ragnarok. Probably due to the birds, posture and overall vibe im getting but i'm loving obsessed.
You know, having listened to the song itself...it actually would work within the world of Hazbin Hotel. In fact, change a few lyrics or names in the lyrics, and it'd be the prefect song for a furious post-S1 finale Lute to be singing at Charlie.
i think also you don't know reprise by lute that shows lute and adam fought for their home by lilith attack would be amazing. That would show Charlie doesn't know/care about why are there the extremination in first place(overlords becoming too strong by deal maker and they attacked heaven/eath with help of lilith and Lucifer), and why adam and lute sera doesn't trust demons and their philosophy is ruthless is mercuy on ourselves. And why lucifer is depress and doesn't care of sinners and her mom isn't heroine she believe(I believe lilith is going to anti villain, because she cannot be hero of freedom if she allow soul deal system that slavery)
Azazel's design is very reminiscent of the Norse god Odin. In Norse mythology, Odin is the god of wisdom, knowledge, war and death. What also resembles her is the two ravens on her shoulders, which Odin also had, hugin and munin.

I feel like your Azrael is a combination of Odin and Hel from Norse Mythology. Odin is usually accompanied by his two ravens, Huginn and Muninn, and Hel is usually depicted as half dead skeleton thing and half human flesh
