In this video, we will cover the latest RV and travel data news. 2023 RV production has continued a steady slide, as expected, as wholesale shipment numbers continue to slow going into the spring selling season. There is no question at this point that it is a buyer’s market. I recently watched an RV Business video interviewing four dealers in different parts of the U.S. that shed light on the current situation. We’ll get into this and more.

Thank you for the news synopsis it was very informative. It would be really helpful for those of us that would like to do a deeper dive if you would attach links in the description to some of the interviews that you discussed listening to. Thanks again for putting it together so we don't have to.

Great Video. I just picked up a New 2022 Heartland Pioneer BH250. Went back and forth with them for a week but they ended up making the deal. I ended up getting about $18k off retail. Which was a 48% reduction in price from original MSRP.

Great information as always! The RV lots in my area of Florida are loaded with units ! I think some of the newbies in the past few years will quit camping. Some that jumped into it have never camped in there lives and don’t like as much as they thought they would.🤷🏼‍♂️Thanks for your report John !
@JohnMarucci
@JohnMarucci Год назад
Ralph, I am seeing the same thing as far as dealership lots still being full. I agree that lots of newbies tried RVing during the pandemic and many will opt out. I think that may be why the number of used RVs for sale are straying high. Thanks for commenting!

Driving by the local Jayco dealer it's easy to see the yard is roughly 3/4 full of new travel trailers and motorized units. We have compared prices from what we paid for our unit a year and a half ago to now and prices are still up there. I'll be interested to see how the pricing is going come may-june. It can't be easy for the dealers to have such a large inventory not moving. Hopefully they will be able to stay afloat.
@JohnMarucci
@JohnMarucci Год назад
It is a real problem with interest rates so high, prices so high, and real quality issues. No easy solution as someone will have to take a hit to push the current inventory through. Thanks for commenting!

This actually makes sense. I also, just from anecdote, hear of smaller trailers selling over larger ones... which in turn may lead to slashing prices come autumn.
@JohnMarucci
@JohnMarucci Год назад
I think if April and May don't show the sales needed, prices will drop before autumn. Quality is still an issue, which will keep me out of the market likely for a while. Thanks!

I do have the skills to repair but, I see no need to take the risk with a new pandemic RV. I would prefer to buy used and let someone else take the depreciation hit. Also, never finance with a RV dealer. Thanks much for the video.

There are very few units for initial entry point campers, especially in motorized but also in trailers.
@JohnMarucci
@JohnMarucci Год назад
Agreed. Pricing has ruled out so many units at this point. My 2017 R-Pod was about 15k new. R-Pods are way more expensive now.

I appreciate your comments on Airstream. They raised prices a few times over the last 12-18 months. While I think they will do just fine in both the short term and the long term they need lower the MSRP across the board.
@JohnMarucci
@JohnMarucci Год назад
I didn't expect Airstream inventories to reverse so quickly. I think real prices are declining back to the 20+% off MSRP. Yet to your point MSRPs are so high, it isn't drawing people to buy. Thanks for commenting!
@dcfan40
@dcfan40 Год назад
@@JohnMarucci I didn't either. The NJ dealership you mention monthly had a weekend sale at the end of February. I am curious how they did. The Basecamp MSRP which is a nice entry level trailer really skyrocketed. The barrier to entry for what I believe is their market (active, younger) priced most of these people out. Keep up the great work!
@JohnMarucci
@JohnMarucci Год назад
Thanks. I take a snapshot of their inventory every Wednesday morning. It is on my site as a tab in the RV Trader weekly data if you are interested in keeping track: johnmarucci.com/data-viz-desktop/

Is it really safe to travel long distances with a single axle TT. SO many of the TTS under 25 feet are now single instead of tandem axle. Your thoughts (experiences) especially with a flat. Thank you and enjoy your videos
@JohnMarucci
@JohnMarucci Год назад
I never had an issue when traveling long distances with my 2017 R-Pod which was a single-axle trailer. Good tires are essential to a safe journey and upgrading to the Goodyear Endurance tires for the R-Pod greatly improved the ride. I also (still) used the EEZ tire pressure monitor system that gives immediate PSI and temp readings on the tires while in transit. A safety must have if doing any distance travel. Here is a link to the unit on my store: amzn.to/3GVrZfr

great review again John, heard some dealers are changing the 2022 VIN to 2023, true or false?
@JohnMarucci
@JohnMarucci Год назад
I am not hearing this but that doesn’t mean it isn’t happening. They’d have to reprint the legally required factory sticker that shows the original production date and this would be illegal for sure.

I would not put it past them to do such a thing ! They are the ones that have the paperwork in the beginning! Fudging it would be simple !🤷🏼‍♂️

Please, John you always mention the poor quality of rpod rvs coming out of Elkhart, but is there any better quality coming out of Oregon (the hood River Edition?) And are the Lance 1475 or 1575 a better made option or are they just as poorly made now that lance was bought up? We are looking to buy a small couples trailer with a dry bath but are dismayed by what we hear about build quality. Any suggestions? And thank you for your great videos!
@JohnMarucci
@JohnMarucci Год назад
Jory, being from the midwest, I am just not familiar enough on west coast trailers and their quality to give good feedback. You may want to follow a Lance forum online to ping current owners on their impressions. Thanks!

Hi , we are considering opening a rv parts store in our area there isn’t anywhere around for miles to purchase rv parts other than Walmart and Home Depot . This is a big investment . Do you think it would be worth it? We are near major tourism
@JohnMarucci
@JohnMarucci Год назад
I would have no way of knowing how to counsel you on this business decision. There would need to be a lot of market research to go into it and there is a timing issue which is very tricky. Sorry that I can't be of more help. All the best!

For used RV's and boats, people will try to sell at the price they paid for years before giving in. Most will sit in the driveway rotting away...even folks that have to pay for storage will hold on to the RV/boats taking a larger loss.
@JohnMarucci
@JohnMarucci Год назад
I've seen many RVs sit at my storage area for long periods. Sad that people don't use them and let them atrophy.
@thestooges333
@thestooges333 Год назад
That’s why used prices didn’t drop yet , people won’t take a loss they rather screw themselves than selling less than they owe the bank. Then they just keep paying for something sitting there unused.
