You may want to ponder turning the generator around. I have the same generator and a good starter battery. However, when it is really cold I have to use the pull rope sometimes. I will choke it, the starter will turn and turn, and the unit will flood to the point I can smell the gas. When this happens, the unit will start easily with the pull rope. The generator powers our 15k AC with the SoftSartUp easily for hours. Great video!

Nice job. I've done the same thing to my Solitude. I used a Morryde Slide for mine. (Where I lack in fabrication skills I make for it with electrical skills.) I added an automatic transfer switch and a 50A RV plug in the front compartment so I can leave it plugged in with a short RV plug.

Beautiful job! One suggestion having to do with leverage points. I noticed you put two bolts each side in the front of the slides and one bolt in the back end of the slide. I would add one more bolt each side in the back . If the one you have fails it will twist the slide, drop the generator and possibly damage the door.

Thanks. I started with bolts. It’s translating some noice and vibration in the frame. I just received isolation mounts and will be adding this week which should reduce. Here’s a link for the slides amzn.to/3StnOfq
@rvadventuresofdavidkarenlu3362
Very nice ! I would love to do that for our 3781. Did you do a sound check from inside your bedroom ? Would it be quiet enough for you to sleep ?
@iLoveRVlife
@iLoveRVlife Год назад
We hear a small rumble. Next step is to order some isolation mounts and place some ridged insulation in the ceiling. Will help some with the noise. If we were needing to run for long extended periods, it’s simple to pull off the rack.

Great Job. Hate to make suggestions but I though on of the advantages of mounting like you did would be for security also, less chance of theft. So modifying your generator hold down strap for something more secure, not for any reason other than theft proofing.

Morning Jerry, nice job, may consider drop legs at the end of the frame, will help reduce vibration transferred to the chassis of the the trailer. Too bad it isn't muffled better but great job.
@iLoveRVlife
@iLoveRVlife Год назад
Thought about that. I’m looking for some rubber isolation mounts that don’t have bolt throughs. With the 500lb slide there’s zero movement. May place some ridge foam it the ceiling too.
@mikewatkins978
@mikewatkins978 Год назад
You might consider foam insulation on as much of the inside of the compartment I think because the open storage area might act as a large speakers cone or resonator. think of the neighbors and excess noise, I know you're a contentious guy
@iLoveRVlife
@iLoveRVlife Год назад
The generator isn’t very loud. 40 feet away is a noticeable, but isn’t one of those roaring generators. I won’t be running the generator in the storage area so the sound should be outside.
@mikewatkins978
@mikewatkins978 Год назад
I wasn't to worried about the neighbors, they never seem to worry about me, anyway, I was ore concerned about the noise inside the RV generated by the storage area, kinda like recording artists do to deaden back ground echo's when laying down a track.
@iLoveRVlife
@iLoveRVlife Год назад
Understand. Short term runs, we’ll probably leave in the rack. Created for convenience as well as storage. Was easy to take off and replace on the rack. If we needed for extended periods, I’d probably pull off the rack and set behind the 5th wheel.

Jerry a list of questions is the generator an inverter generator, is it dual fuel and how big of generator? We have a Cedar Creek with one 15000 AC ,we are wanting to try some boondocking, I am thinking maybe a 4500 watt is that big enough?
@iLoveRVlife
@iLoveRVlife Год назад
Hi Clarence. The generator can support a constant 3500 watts and reported to handle a 4500 surge. Specs state it supports 29 amps. It’s gas only. It will run our 15000 BTU AC, but we had to be careful with other appliances running if the AC turned on due to surge. Easy fix with a soft start on the AC or using an Active Start plug. These will keep the AC at a constant 10 to 11 amps. Here’s a video where we tested an Active Start if interested. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ocoWmjfVkbI.html

@roundsm18

I actually boondock five days a week due to work - it opens a lot of atypical opportunities.
@iLoveRVlife
@iLoveRVlife Год назад
I worked on the plans for several months and must have looked at every 3500 watt generator in the area to find a fit. My other option was to use the side bay, but I didn’t want to have the unit exposed to weather. If the 3500’s are to big, maybe two 2000 in parallel are an option.

I have a question about your connection I have exactly the same 5 th wheel except it is a legacy . I purchased a generator but when I plugged it in the in house Surge protect kicked out . Do you have any thoughts thank you Jerry . I really enjoy your channnel. Thank you
@iLoveRVlife
@iLoveRVlife Год назад
Question, plugging in the house or 5th wheel? If the Legacy has the surge protector, it may be tripping when it sees an open neutral from the generator. Easy fix, get a bonding plug like this amzn.to/41W2QZX and plug into one of the 110 outlets.

I really enjoy your videos . Can you tell me how you vent the exhaust? I am planning on the same design but I worry that the exhaust fumes will go into the Bay Area and then the bedroom above the storage area.
@iLoveRVlife
@iLoveRVlife 4 месяца назад
Thanks. Appreciate you watching. I removed the spark arrestor from the exhaust and added this flexible exhaust tubing amzn.to/4apAZWj Used a small hose clamp to add a little tension to help the pipe in place. Works great throwing the exhaust to the side of the 5th wheel. I also added a carbon monoxide detector in the bedroom as an added safety measure just in case amzn.to/3UAWnC0 It never alerted. Hope this helps.

It’s a pain! An extra set of hands on one side makes it better, but I’ve don’t it by myself. Good news, I can fuel with it in the bay. Need that little extra headroom. And can slide out to change the oil so once it’s in place, I leave it.
