R13 insulation which is meant for 3.5 cavity has a r value of 3.71 per inch.. pink foam has a R Value of 5 per inch. It also doesn’t turn into a soggy mess..

Guaranteed when actual skilled trades workers point out her flaws she says some crap like “ yeah but it works just the same anyways “ 😂😂

@@Gigachadly she could just say it is cheaper and is what was there originally.. that makes sense.. there are more advantages of using rigid foam insulation. And she does show some helpful information… but don’t misinform.. it isn’t Christian.

Bless you for using your gift to glorify God Almighty. I am now a subscriber of your channel and a believer as well. Loving the renovation. I have a travel trailer that I want to renovate. This is very inspirational.

Hey Sarah, love the work you put into your projects! I did a little comparative insulation research and what I read is that you have to rate/compare them by the "inch-o-meter". Fiberglass batt insulation has an R-Value rating of 3.7 per inch, whereas the pink polystyrene board has an R-Value of 5 per inch (and Polyurethane rigid panel has an R-Value of 7.5 per inch)... so while it varies depending on the type of rigid panels, what does seem clear is that rigid insulation actually does provide a higher R-Value than fiberglass batts.

I'm not sure where you got your information on r value but it's incorrect. The R-13 fiberglass you're installing is at 3 1/2" of thickness. Compare that to a Johns Manville polyiso insulation board that runs around R-6 per inch which would equal R-21or slightly more in a 3 1/2" cavity. Heck even styrofoam is R-5 per inch which is higher than fiberglass. The other major advantage foam board provides is air can't pass through it. If you take it a step further and use closed cell spray foam you get R-7 per inch and no air infiltration but sometimes air infiltration is a good thing.

Have you tried Rockwool, instead of fiberglass? Rockwool does okay if it gets wet and is not flammable. It retains R-value even if wet.

I use foamboard backed with aluminium foil, and i am building for down to -30C would not touch the candycotton with an ten foot pole! Candycotton is cheaper and lighter that is all. As long you stay in moderate temp areas it works, but if you have the risk of real low or high temp do not trust the candycotton

I don’t live where it would ever get down to -30C, so I don’t have to worry about that. I tell people all the time, build it how you want it done. Want it to withstand cold temps? Go for it. Want it to withstand the Arizona desert? Add that extra AC unit. Functional is best!
