In this video, we officially get a ceiling! Whoo! Last week, the water-damaged areas in the bedroom were reframed and now it's time to insulate and re-panel the ceiling!
The materials we used for this job included: R-13 fiberglass insulation, 5mm Tri-ply moisture-resistant paneling, Liquid Nails adhesive, and finishing nails.

Ive done constructuon my whole life... First thing you need to know about mold is it will grow on any organic material... The paper on standard insulation will mold. Peel the paper off or use foam board. I would also stain or treat the upper roof side to repel water if any leaks occur from the roof. When you repair any sheet material break it on a stud/joist/rafter. If you must cut it back more add support on the seam where the sheeting joins together. Always foresee water damage and take precautions to resist mold/rot issues.

Why didn't you use closed cell spray foam? It's a better R value, vapor barrier, sound proofing, and adds structural support.

Thanks for the work not only on the restoration, but on the excellent video work!! Impressive for sure!!! I picked up an old 77 10 foot trailer in need of water damage repair. I think it's manageable and can be done easy on budget. Thanks again, Happy Trails!!

+Jason Gurganus Thanks for the great comment, Jason. As far as the explanation goes, we would love to show more of the details but aren't sure how many people would find it valuable. Additionally, we have lots of shaky video that may be disorienting to some... In hindsight, we wish would have shot much better video but we are working with what we have. As always, If you have any specific questions that you need answered, please don't hesitate the either ask then in a comment or send us an email at duetjustus@gmail.com. Thanks for following us on our journey! :) -Michael and Jenny Justus

What sucks about plywood is that it offgasses formaldehyde 😭 so I would've used something on all sides to seal it up. Usually painting with oil or acrylic-latex paint. Unfortunately you have to paint all sides to prevent the offgasses But thanks for the video! Trying to tackle this myself

Any comments on faced vs. unfaced insulation batts? I'm reluctant to close the ceiling area back in tightly, with no air flow to dry, should other leaks develop in the future - any ideas? Thanks for the video.

ok, so after 3 months of searching ... we are about to take the plunge and pick up a 1999 class c today! For around the same price as yours. The overcab needs a complete rebuild and we're inspecting it more today before purchasing for additional water damage in the rear and... well everywhere else. Nervous, but thanks for all the videos as it gives us hope that we can do it, too! You all did a fantastic job. Ours is about 11 years newer so keeping my fingers crossed that we have less damage? Will know more today.

@mackhot714

Hey Guys ...Love the channel. I am wondering if you could have put a vapor barrier (sheet of plastic) over the insulation before installing the panel. Again you guys are doing great.
@DuetJustusFam
@DuetJustusFam 8 лет назад
+scott mackay Hey Scott. We honestly never even thought about doing that. That's actually a great idea if we ever decide to build a tiny house or something like that. Thank you! We ended up fixing the cause of the leak and plan on being very diligent on maintaining the integrity of the fix. Thanks for the helpful tips! -Michael and Jenny
@BillAndersonNS
@BillAndersonNS 7 лет назад
Agreed. The vapour barrier goes on the warm side of the insulation to keep the moisture from breathing, showers, boiling potatoes etc, from being absorbed by the insulation. Once the insulation becomes water laden it is pretty useless as insulation and becomes a breeding ground for mold and mildew. If vapour barrier has not been put in, then air sealing of all holes and cracks becomes more important and can do a better job that the vapour barrier would have done. . source: www.energyvanguard.com/blog-building-science-HERS-BPI/bid/54110/You-Don-t-Need-a-Vapor-Barrier-Probably

Congrats on the project . But you sure nails for the roof ? I would pass and put some screws. Gravity and wobble are against you on that one. If you want to keep it for long , go for some good ol screws . my grain of sand take it or leave it . good luck guys

Dude you are a clone of me, its weird watching you, you do the same exact shit i do, including the solar panel except i live next to NY so i get the monocrystaline instead of the polycrystaline at 118$FS per 100Watts I just wanted to know how i take the windows out on mine i have everything else off. Its so funny. You do the same exact things i am doing with minor differences. I think in real life you would be my best friend. OK one hint i want you to implement i think you will enjoy the result. Go to walmart, but Plasticoat black, spray your campers RUBBER TIRES on the outside and inside and everywhere the rubber is. Instead of putting on the old people covers. You will find that it is a superior idea, it protects the tire at the same time it males it look like brand new tire. OR OR a new product i have now if you dont want to have the option of peeling it off like tape basically, DG makes leak seal black rubber coating as well. Im trying it out today, but i love plasicoat its 5$ it will cover 2 tires, it preserves the rubber from drying out and it also looks like rubber sticking to the tire until you want to peel it off later in time or drive on it as it makes it driveable instantly. Its amazing shit you need to get it today. You can also reinforce speakers with it. Also get a thing of QuickSteel to have on hand for your exhaust joints if they become noisy. If you have not used Quick steel puddy yet i need you to get some and just play with it, then try to burn it and drill it smash it, a whole world will open up in your mind. You make good videos, your a great editor. I do the same thing not on this account though i have 2 others.

Also Home depot sells a product in a metal bottle its called wood hardener, you poor it on crap wood and it becomes ultra hard and water resistant, its 10$ and its magic, once it touches wood the wood no matter what kind of ply wood, it absorbs it like a sponge, becoming rock hard. Check it out the 3 products will really improve the end goal or fixes. Have you ever used gorilla glue, the kind that requires water to activate, its perfect for wet wood areas.
