FYI regarding fueling at a truck stop. I was a truck driver nearly 30yrs. When a driver is finished fueling, they will pull forward allowing a truck that might be behind them to fuel. This is just a courtesy to the other driver. If a driver does pull forward and stops, they will more than likely go into the truck stop building for food, drink, restrooms or something else. As for your comment about not staying at rest areas, thank you! There is simply not enough parking spaces for big rigs. Even tho I'm now retired, I can speak on behalf of ALL truck drivers that they appreciate your leaving a spot for them.
@JamieStuff
@JamieStuff 7 месяцев назад
As a current trucker, 10 minutes is generally considered the maximum "pull forward" time. Plenty of time to potty, grab some caffeine and maybe some prepared food, and go. If there's a fast food place with an app, I'll order while fueling (or waiting to fuel), and then it's grab and go.

As a trucker and former Cali resident (now a proud Texan), I can tall you this: 1. California HATES trucks. If they could figure out a way to ban any vehicle over 26000 pounds, they would. Insane fuel prices, very little parking (and MANY restrictions on building more parking), and that idiotic statewide 55 speed limit for anything towing a trailer. (I saw that 60!) 2. Sacramento needs an enema.

The summer of 2021 I left the RV at home (10 mpg towing) packed my tenting gear and took my grandkids to see the National Parks of the west. 8,000 miles total. We saw Utah, Arizona, California, Oregon, Washington, Wyoming and South Dakota! We camped mostly in National or State Forests at less than $20 night, and splurged on a few motels with swimming pools;) If your viewers’ budget is tight, there are options to be more thrifty!

Born & raised in N California & I’ve camped & RV’d my entire life. During the fair weather months the most beautiful place to travel thru the mountains North to South is I-5 to Mt Shasta. Go east on 89 and travel over to 395 south. It will take you through NV in the Reno area. RV parks are cheaper and it’s beautiful. 395 below Lake Tahoe you will find the most expensive fuel cost in the nation due to its remoteness and California special fuel blend.

You made the right choice not to take the cutoff road from Redding over to Hwy 1 it is very narrow and very twisty. Also the portion of Hwy 1 from Ft. Bragg down through SF is very narrow and twisty and with a rig your size it would not be a very fun drive. The section from Monterey south is very nice but prone to mudslides this time of year. Then there is the fuel costs. They SUCK especially diesel. I live in Krazyfornia and sometimes I have actually dropped my trailer and gone to a regular station because the cost can be up to a dollar cheaper than your truck stops. Oh and ignore that stupid 55 MPH when towing BS we have as no one but a very few people drive 55 it just screws up the traffic flow, 65 is always a safe bet.

You are correct, California is one of the most beautiful states in the North America, it also has some of the most varied landscapes. Where I'm ftom I would take My dog's to the beach then back in the car to go to the mountains in the snow and you can visit friends in the high desert 🏜️ and drive back to the Ocean since at the time I was less than 3 miles from the ocean. California also can grow almost everything, They even grow Cotton in Bakersfield. But in my area Ventura, Oxnard, we can grow Banana's, corn, soy beans and so many vegetables and fruit 🍓, strawberries are a major crop in Oxnard, in fact it's known as the strawberry capital. We also grow artichokes and in some areas they are growing wheat 🌾. Citrus 🍋🍊 is grown right here and apricots and some specialty fruit too like Dragon fruit and now California is starting to grow Kiwis from sapling brought back from New Zealand. My moto for planting things in your yard in California is Plant it, it will grow. California has two of the oldest tree's on Earth still living the Sequoia Red woods and the Joshua trees in fact one Joshua Tree is named after Moses' father Methuselah because how old it is. And if you like mountains your in luck because we in California have the most mountains of any state in the lower 48. Ocean front take your pick, we have a national park out in the ocean on and around the Channel Islands called Channel Islands national Park and you can see whales standing on the end of wharf Street in Ventura and brown pelican's and seals and otters in the harbor. You see Wildlife in the mountains and if you follow the News know you may come across a mountain Lion, I've driven up on a beautiful Bob cat on a back country Rd. And then the State Bird is actually fairly close by, the California Condor. California actually has various weather types depending on where you are from hot a kinda humid to cool and breezy. Olives and walnuts and other types of nuts are grown in our area too. Let's not forget the California Live oak indigenous to the State and highly adapted to the weather patterns such as long drought periods, when in drought the trees drop their leaves and just look like a dead tree but as soon as they get some rain they sprout leaves and and Come Alive and they can go up to 7 years without water and still come back in full glory with rain. The other thing only In Southern California is the La Brea Tar pits and museum, you can see what prehistoric animals got caught in the Tar Pits such as Mastedons and Saber tooth Tiger's, right in the greater Los Angeles area. I miss My home State.

Just wondering about how behind you are in releasing your videos? Sometimes it would really be nice to know what date(s) you are actually pulling into a place. Hope you enjoyed Journey!

@2:35 - You can snow ski in the mountains and then go surfing the same day in the Carolinas. We recently has a beautiful solid male cat to adopt our family. He is so sweet, loving and easy going....but boy does he have a mouth on it. He is so loud. Being Siamese, I'm betting your buddy is loud mouthed too. Hey, @15:14, that is the southern tip of SOUTH Carolina. You should come have a meet up in the Charlotte NC/Fort Mill SC area sometime.

Honey I used to run the road back in the day. Some thoughts to share: 1. Thank you for considering the drivers that still run and value those rest areas to park after pounding that road for 10+ hours. Big help. 2. Always, and I mean ALWAYS!!! pull your rig FAR AND AWAY from the fuel island so as not to interfere with the next guy. That was for me/still is a MAJOR! pet peeve for the guys still on the road. Time is money. Delays that can be avoided are frustrating because of someone else’s lack of consideration. It is maddening. Watch a few episodes of “bonehead truckers” and you will get the idea. Good videos keep them coming. You kids make a nice pair and good to see youth in an honorable profession and not tattooed head to toe and a face full of piercings like they fell head long into a fishing tackle box. Hopefully you two might consider doing a stint in a third world country for a few weeks with some groups like Operation Smile. Pass your blessings on.

Broken leaf spring, isn't it? I had one in Oregon several years back. Two trips to a boat supply place for leaf springs (guessed wrong the first time) and I as able to replace the leaf spring in the RV spot (after asking the host).

I had an2018 F-350 diesel. The bio diesel ran fine in mine but it seemed to get less mileage than diesel #2. RVs stay at the parking lot of Harris Ranch restaurant for free next time you are in the area. I met Today is some day there by accident about 2 years ago. Was pretty cool. Be safe.

I lived in California for two years. I say nice place to visit would not want to live there. I got to remember my fueling gloves! Your hands and feet at truck stops get messy. Try Mudflaps also besides open roads. At least you got to your destination safely. You guys are great !! We have a cat how do you know when they need the potty lol

I’m from Southern California some nice places to camp at is calico the spot to camp free right next to it is called Mule Canyon. They have a lot of minds you guys could walk around and find. and explore. We also like a resort in Palm Springs that you can go to the house full hook ups. It’s called Emerald desert. Great staff super quiet park.

If you have never been to the Cereal Bowl (fruits nuts and flakes), you have to go and see for yourself. I will NEVER go back to the State for any reason. Same with Oregon, and Washington. Its a shame as there are some great people and beautiful places. Its not all about politics either.

I was in Washington State for a few years in the '80s, courtesy of Uncle Sam, and fell in love with the state. I went back in the early '90s, and was sad to see it had become Cali North. And now Oregon has become Cali Not-so-North.

California accountant here. Gotta correct you on the gas tax.. the 2.25% and 13% is just the state rate... most counties / localities add onto that. So for example if you are in Los Angeles you're likely going to pay 5% for regular/mid/premium and 15.25% for diesel. It's basically going to vary depending on what county and city you are in.

Stupidly expensive to live here. Yes, you can’t beat the weather, although recently we’ve had our share of that. Next it will be the fires that follow the rain. The fuel prices here are by far the highest in the country. Why? Because we’ll pay it and have no choice. There are some absolutely amazing places in this state though!!! Hope your broken spring or shackle didn’t tear anything up!!!

Spoiler alert! Probably a busted spring or a spring bolt has lost its lock nut and has walked out back up the road.. Happens a lot, it seems. If you watch Finding Our Someday, they've been through 2 full spring packs (one for each axle) because of the rough roads they travel. We lived in Reno, NV, then had a place in Southern Nevada west of Las Vegas. You are right, California is a beautiful state. We've visited some spectacular places, that's for sure! Prices were pretty steep even 27 years ago. Almost be worthwhile carrying 30 gallons of spare diesel. As for biodiesel, you should probably use an additive like Hotshot's Secret EDT to treat the fuel and save yourself future heartaches.

I agree, Cali is so expensive. Our son lives in Richmond, just northeast of Oakland, so we have been there often. We are lucky we can park our camper on the street in front of his house while we are there. We have taken route 1, a couple of times, and it is beautiful. Boondocking is a great way to camp in Cali, and we do it a lot. We don't make reservations either. We fly by the seat of our pants. Oh, if you go to Mendocino, make sure you don't plan on fueling there. Their one station runs about 3 - 4 dollars a gallon higher than 10 miles down the road! On our trip home last fall, we found rest areas that have areas set aside for overnight campers and you aren't taking up truck areas. They were along highway 70. Happy camping!
