Can we all just say bravo to his camera man? It's incredible how he keeps the camera so steady as he tries to walk on those rocks- I would have turned my ankles a hundred times!! Greetings from NYC!! 😆🤗💚🌷💜
@@flashylite "A fool with a tool is still a fool!" If Art (I think that is his name?) would not have some talent in filming even the nicest Gimbal (As can be seen in the shadow at 6:36 ff) could not help produce those nice shots. For example the scene at the beginning where Valur was just standing exactly not to close and not to far away from the lava in the background that the sun over the mountain would just light up the head instead of the whole body when to close or nothing at all when Valur had stood totally in the shadow! What I would like to see (If I could voice a wish for EP 100!) is a "Making off" of those prior Episodes regarding Northie-Southie, Mini-me and tthe whole bunch of vents. With outtakes of scenes that were not publishing worth and some introduction of the people "Behind the Camera" and all that Postproduction stuff. While Valur is obviously capable to articulate a train of thought for more then a hand full of seconds, which does not make it necessary to have a cut every 2-3 seconds that one nowadays see in so many videos elsewhere when someone says something into a camera, I doubt that there were no bloopers in his texts! P.S. I liked how Valur mentioned 7:58 ff "It is just a name: Verkís | hf It's also impossible to understand this in Icelandic." ;-) Edit: just a typo and timestamp changed a bit for the whole text Second edit: seems editing a comment after it good a "Heart" from the chan owner removes it it seems. :-( I like to have the heart back please @The Reykjavík Grapevine :-)
I think that I understand the commitment that is necessary for Art to provide those fabulous night images to us. Thanks to him and to all at Reykjavik Grapevine for the extra work and effort you all provide to make it possible for us to experience the visuals from the volcano in this way.
As a sometimes member of Bobnation I think your original comment was fine. As you say we can call it whatever we like. Thenk you again for the effort it must take every time you go there. Great informative video.
I really like your updates. I've noticed how clean the area still is despite having lots of visitors. During your walk I saw no garbage left behind. I doff my hat to all the people that take the trash home with them.
@@vegassims7 No. US cities are particularly dirty. Ironic that the land that worships individual responsibility is blighted by irresponsible individuals.
@@parajacks4 What I was saying was that in Iceland they have a very tiny population. Same event happen in the U.S. where there are 10's of millions of citizens you wouldn't be able to keep it so clean. There is a difference.
Australia is so old and Iceland is so young. We are the Yin and the Yang of the geological world. Thank you for transporting this Aussie to the birth site of the new Iceland.
I just wish we had some more geological activity here in Australia. It's great being free of earthquakes, but some slow flowing volcanic fissures would be awesome.
You just missed some... Mt Gambier in Vic was just 6000 yrs ago, and some of the volcanoes in Atherton, QLD, were as recent as 20,000 yrs ago. Certainly aborigines would have seen them...
I will surmise that he gets cranky because of the ton of coffee he drank today. Not so, because he is a scientist. Nevertheless, I like the trueness, the dark humor and the dark chocolate of Icelanders.
Are we talking about Valur? is he a scientist? I thought he was a reporter, and/or journalist for the 'R Grapevine' I love his reports and his accent also . . . and that so much "is what it is" 😀
I enjoyed very much when you where joking about Pappa, Mamma the Monster and Mini Me! Very funny! Also find it very interesting follow you to the Volcanoe since I can’t se it for myself, living in Sweden. All the best!
Thank you for answering the question I had in my mind, which was how much lava is flowing right now. Many channels are following this eruption, using very dramatic language and close-ups, but giving scant hard information. You are my first go-to channel on this subject - keep up the excellent work! :-)
"Mankind exists by geological consent, subject to change without notice." Will Durant If the lava gets that close, I wish you great good fortune in changing the course of the lava away from inhabited areas and your hydro plant. Meanwhile, we are enjoying the show and thank you very much for providing us the opportunity to watch it. I miss Polly. I hope you bring her along on the next broadcast.
This is so amazing. Nature has so much power. Love your information. Would love to see Iceland but because of old age and health i get to see the world through others eyes. I live in Alberta, Canada
Perhaps the studies of Vulcanology will be greatly expanded because of this ‘gentle’ flow. When you compare it to the 100 m3 of some other volcanoes, this is slow and steady. But looking at the valley systems m it could spread out to cover roads and other things. So it is good that it gives you time to study it and find things that might work to help divert this and other volcanoes. As always, thank you for going and showing us the site. I can’t believe how much this has changed in 1 month. Wow.
@@hermannhoth6518 the persons that came up with that name had exactly THAT scenario in mind when they where talking/typing about which Vents are ment as BoB. ;-) If Valur had been active in that chat chan himself they might be now known to more people not by BOB and FLO but by "Northie/Southie" and "Mini-me" :-P
@dean wayne Not sure how serious the criticism of Valur was! I myself posted one or another short comment, regarding that remark in one of the prior videos, on the restream channels of the RÚV streams here where there is chat activated. First it was just a "technical" issue since he used other references to the vents then the people there! As far as I understood the anger some felt offended that he called THEIR behaviour something not nice while HE did the same just with other madeup Names. @RVK: What nameentries are in the hat for the official name after all? I for myself don't care so much because once you understand what vent he is talking about when he says "little John" or Mini-me" what is the problem? Little John is SIF and Mini-me is FLO if I understand it correctly by the way FYI. Some people take it too serious I think! Someone must write a dictionary: Bobnation -> Valur | Valur -> Bobnation ;-)
@dean wayne "it's just a volcano, the poor guy,had to apologize, you have to be careful these days,it's not the 80s" Ja, unfortunately crazy times we are living in. :-(
I watch your broadcast from NZ, I love your filming and i think you are the best channel so far for updates. At first the accent was hard, now i am adapting and challanging myself on Pronouncing the words.😊 God bless you all and your bravery.
I was mesmerized by the entire video, not just the exquisite drone footage at the end. I've no doubt the engineers will come up with a way to divert the lava.
Hi Valur, I can tell you exactly why the first vent was nicknamed "Bob " in our RU-vid chat. It started because , as a group, we had no name to call it. I knew from info. you provided that Grindavik would be naming it....... four days went by, and in a moment of impatience, I said " Ok, guys... I don't know about you, but as for myself, I'm going to call it "Bob ". Why Bob ? Well, the new volcano wasn't coming off as hostile or life-threatening.... you could, as you did, walk right up to it. This was a friendly volcano. As for only myself, Bob only has the connotation of being a nice guy, agreeable... like someone who would split his submarine sandwich with you if you didn't have anything to eat. It was my own personal name for it. Quite unexpectedly, others in the chat started using it as well, They seemed to like it....even Icelanders on the chat did... especially the local S & R members ! The rest is history. Nothing disparaging was ever the case... just a easy to use nick-name for our chat. PS: #98 made my feel like I've truly visited the site.. many thanks from all your fans !
Bobnation has grown and engaged folk who have learned so much more than they ever knew about volcanic eruptions and the effects they have on the environment. Community learning is fun and that simple name helped enormously. It doesn't matter if you're 5 or 95, everyone involved with it has been enriched by it.
@@denni7173 After Flo, the chat decided that any new eruptions should be given Nordic names...like Sif, Ulf, Hel and Rag-Nar ( in honor of our Icelandic host ! )
@@Ravenflight104 True...and yet the geofans still found ways to create acronyms for them which I thought great! Melding Icelandic culture with geology is fun 😉
I am really enjoying your coverage of the [name to be determined] Volcano. I do hope this goes on for a while (safely) and that I will have a chance to see it in person.
Valur ! again THANKYOU for the update in your honest and charming style. I don’t know how you don’t fall over when you’re walking AND talking. Don’t worry about the irritating helicopters and planes, we can still hear you. Credit to whoever is filming and the drone shots are breathtaking.
Thank you for another great report from the volcano, and for the beautiful camera footage. I've watched several of your videos now. Thank you also for being open to accept the online community of Bob-lovers. I check the BOBcam and FLOcam every night, and I have become very attached to my volcano friends, Bob, Rag-Nar, Sif, Hel, Ulf (rip), and Flo (rip).
Many of us from overseas appreciate All the video feeds we can get from this amazing opportunity to see this eruption over the last month or so. I certainly look forward to your commentary and have thoroughly enjoyed your Abandoned Iceland series and most of the Saga series. I doubt that I will ever visit Iceland, though I knew someone (nearly 50 years ago) who had spent 12 months in Iceland.
Some of these shots feel like being at the beginning of the molten earth... I love this. You do great work. Thanks to the camera person for the great shots!
thank you from Canada. we have been watching since the first night. it is amazing how much it has changed. until we can see it in person for ourselves, we will continue to watch your informative videos.
You are such a nice person, don’t listen to the haters...Thank you for sharing updates about the volcanoes...I can see how much you love to share this info...Please keep educating us in your wonderful way. Keep up the good work! Cheers!
If anyone is visiting Iceland, a trip to Heimaey on Vestmannaeyjar is worth your time. It is spectacularly beautiful and you can climb the volcano Eldfell which appeared on the outskirts of the town in 1973. You can also visit the excavated houses buried under tens of metres of ash as well as walk along the lava flow that was diverted away from the vital harbour by the bravery and incalculable efforts of the locals and the US Navy. The novelist Yrsa Sigurðadóttir has set one of her murder mysteries in wake of the eruption. Well worth anyone’s time - and her character Thora is just delightful.
Minimi- a Japanese pop star- one of my favorites- I like that name. Be nice if they could divert the lava to the ocean. You have some great footage here, I have been following this for a long time.

Thank you for doing this. 🙏🏼 Also watched pretty much all of RVK Grapevines Videos. The whole team seems so nice and interesting. Would be amazing to work with them. ☺️ Also I heard that the RU-vid Algorithm loves comments - so leave a comment! 😉
We are really enjoying these newscasts. So interesting and informative. We especially appreciate the superb drone camera footage, which shows so beautifully the lava flows and where it's going. Thank you to the team!
Haha! I like that you admit the bad joke in the last video, I do always enjoy and appreciate your tours and guides of the volcanic lands. Stay safe, please.
Gosh ? first here...benefits of being from being next island east. Art you nailed the intro again! Really scary Real Valur I still want the shop to sell me a piece of Lava for my window sill! People always hit 'like' when you arrive your fav places, that is what we can do to show our gratitude

There's a wonderful documentary on Vimeo called "Living With Lava", it's about Icelanders learning to cope/live with the Volcanos, I highly recommend it if you are at all interested in Iceland & this kind of stuff.
I can't get enough of this! The changes in the volcanoes, the lava fields and the scenery. Too bad the lava isn't a valuable economic resource, except for all the tourism it generates. Thanks again Valur, Art and the RG team!
They have a competition in Grindaviyck? (spelling?) to find a new name for that (ex beautiful) valley. I suggest 'Mountain of the lost beautiful valley' as most of their names for volcanoes incorporate the name of the place.
That gave me the fear at 11:22 seeing people standing on the hardened lava... It may look solid, it may be from a fissure that hasn't been erupting for a couple days to a week but it's impossible to say that there's no lava under them... there could be lava tubes meters under them supplying a slow flow of lava which could emerge and cut them off. The lava tube could be empty and collapse
Have been watching since Day 1.........Wow, the landscape really has changed and how interesting the first volcanos have stopped flowing. Love your up dates.
I was a young graduate student in the early 70's and actually travelled to Iceland when the lava was threatening the city to watch what happened when water was used to cool the lava so that the flow could be redirected away from areas of homes and businesses and it was a very amazing thing. When one thinks about the fact that these volcanos are actually there to build the island, and that was a good thing back before anyone wanted to live there, but now that people are there its a matter of how to live along side a volcano and allow it to do what it is supposed top do environmentally, while also being able to allow people to survive also. We certainly have seen in other places in this world where human habitation has taken away habitats of animals and we have lost many species as we did not seem to want to find a way where we could both share and make it work for all. Here we have volcanoes that one needs to find a way to share with them as we can't make them go away, and they are actually more likely to make it impossible for humans to habitat. It would be nice to think that there could be a way to direct the lava to areas where it can add to the land mass without destroying where humans have decided to habituate and in the big picture actually provide more land for habitation.
Thank You Valur, Art and Team. As always, very interesting commentary and great footage. Overhead lava flow scenes are amazing. Very much appreciated. Stay safe.
Not knowing where the next fissure could pop up is not going to an easy task to tame Mother Nature. Thank you for the updates in this on going saga of our changing earth.
Another great update - thanks. It is interesting that engineers what to try to divert the flow of lava away from important infrastructure, like the power plant. Next time I wish you could show some close up aerial video of Northy and Southy, now that the lava flow has nearly entirely ceased. It would still be interesting to see what the first vents to open look like now, especially since Northy is still smoking and glowing internally at the top of it's cone.
"You do you" - I love it! Isn't that a motto for life? Hope there will be volcanic activity when I come next February/March. Always a fine update on an ever-changing situation.
Overhead drone shot from at the start of video is spectacular! Shots of lava waterfall are wonderful; however, you can’t see the true amounts / impact of lave until you see overhead shot.
I remember watch it flow originally with my husband and adult son and we were wondering when it was going to reach the bottom of the valley it’s unrecognisably from that first Saturday bout still I find myself spending a couple of hours a day watching this beautiful spectacle Please be careful when walking on such uneven terrain and talking I wouldn’t want you to fall 💕
We look forward to your Newscast! We have been watching the live stream since the beginning and look forward to your Newscast to inform us about what is happening. Thank You from the Monterey Bay Area, California
Valur, you are a gifted wordsmith. The volcanoes should have majestic names. You are right. There is drama in all this. Anything can erupt at any time. Great update. Awesome photography! It will be interesting if the engineers are successful in re-routing the lava, given the flows could continue to move toward the towns. This is really the early stage developing. Thank you again for bringing us up close and up to the minute on developments! Awesome job. PS miss Polly X0 from US
Oh, you Icelanders are much braver than this Englishwoman, standing on the cooled (or is it...?) lava and watching a vent. Not to mention how sharp that lava field must be, and what injuries one would suffer from a fall onto that brand new rock... Interesting idea from your Engineers, to divert, potentially, any awkward lava; I'd be interested to see how that goes. And yes, mesmerising views of flowing lava, from the drone. Like watching a coal fire, I could sit and stare at the lava all day!
