Watch this rare encounter with two gorilla families in Volcano National Park in Rwanda. It is incredibly rare to see two families in contact and reacting to one another, and we was really amazing to see these amazing animals in their natural habitat. With on 1200 Gorillas left, it has only been through the Rwandan conservation efforts that this is even a possibility. Truly a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I am so happy to be able to share it. Enjoy.

1:47 It's so beautiful how the Silverback Charles sits back and observes his family.

@@TravelWise_JC Please can you tell me if one of the families is the Umubano family? I definitely see the "King" Silverback, Charles. He's very strict, assertive, and immensely intelligent. He is kinda moody sometimes to the tourists, because he is SO protective of his family.

@@MamaofaWrestler I believe I was in a group visiting the Isimbi family, and the other group may have been Umubamo because there were 5 silverbacks that I counted.

5:35 The Silverback Charles. He has a tendency to approach the tourists just to let them know he's the one in charge! He's hilarious! There was a tourist who, despite the guides orders to stop taking pictures for a little while because Charles does not like it when there are too many shutter sounds! When he gets impatient, he will run up to the group, look at everyone then turn to his side to show off his massive body. This one guy decides he's gonna sneak taking a picture. Charles walked up to him, stared, and sat down right next to him, like he was a person! He then proceeded to "poop" on the guy's shoe!!! Then he walked away and posed again showing his side-view, to basically say "I'm in charge here, you broke the rules, so I pooped on you."

Re. your comment that there are only about "1200 gorillas left in the world", that applies tothe mountain gorilla, subspecies which is the only species that people go to see and the only one that's been closely studied in the wild. The western lowland gorilla, the only subspecies that's in zoos, is much more numerous, but it's still considered endangered. I think there are estimated to be about 100,000 of them in the wild.

Isimbi and Umubano. I believe it to be Umubano because there were 5 Silverbacks.

when a Silverback takes that sideways stance head looking up on one side...he is ready for battle!...this encounter has nothing to do with territory///its ALL about the females because it is known that they will leave a family to go to another..and that is what the Silverback is ready to fight to prevent
