Ironwood's semblance isn't real. They made it up on the spot the rapidly explain his nonsensical actions in Volume 8.

I think it was also mentioned somewhere that he lost his semblance/ability to use his semblance due to his injuries. This is a similar case to Mercury as I believe it’s unstated whether his father made him lose his ability or he lost it after loosing his legs

According to who, you? Ironwood’s semblance is considered “Word of God” canon rn as, whether or not you believe it was made up on the spot, it DID come directly from the current showrunners themselves. It’s not direct canon so if something in the show explicitly contradicts it, or the showrunners come out with a more undated take it can be throw out, but until then it’s canon
@jonnjones8263
@jonnjones8263 Год назад
@@masenmeans5893 According to the facts? It's never mentioned in the actual series. Everything in the show contradicts it because they very existence of such a semblance would cause some people to at least mention it instead of just deciding that Ironwood was evil. Just the fact that his semblance can warp his mind to that degree and there were no protocols for dealing with it is proof that this ability was not planned as part of the story.

If I was a writer for RWBY, I think I would try to find a way to explain how the magic works. My explanation would be that when everybody had magic, they had auras but not semblances because magic existed. But after everything was destroyed where only Salem and ozma are the only ones with magic, the gods actually weakened other peoples magic or redistributed so that it was very limited but also this created semblances and dust. That way when a character combines both their semblance and dust, it appears closer to magic. But also the show could be like “the semblances are little acts of magic and when magic existed, all the semblances that exist now, could be done by a single person with enough training or magic.”

You can tell how much the writers came to feel aura shields were overtuned in the earlier seasons by how much they get nerfed as the show goes on. The fact they completely prevent the user from being meaningfully injured while active basically laid the groundwork for why they'd be made progressively weaker as the show went on. Early on the shields being strong allowed for bigger, more dramatic fight scenes where people get flung through walls and such, but that level of durability being commonplace effectively negates a lot of more "normal" physical threats. Yang w/ aura demonstrated she can casually shrug off falling on her back through a roof and onto a hard floor at terminal velocity, and without breaking said aura, so falling a few stories isn't actually a serious danger like it would be to regular people, but that in itself removes anything less impactful from the "viable threat" pool which was apparently too narratively limiting.
@hazelcrisp

Aura now is used for the opposite thing it was originally for. Vale arc used Aura to make fight longer. Now aura is used to make fights happen and no one is in danger or hurt until their aura breaks. But if they are fighting with broken aura you know they won't get hit in a fight until it's to end the fight. And when it breaks they can finally have tension in fights since someone can actually get hurt now.

Weiss' "semblance" that runs in her family could have been the Maiden's power in disguise. Only the women are shown to control it (Weiss and Winter) despite it being hereditary (Whitley doesn't), and since it stays within the family it also fulfils the requirement for the power being passed down to someone the Maiden thinks strongly about - family. Their semblance, controlling "glyphs" is far too similar to magic - they create magic circles that allow them to perform multiple fantastical feats, such as defying gravity, time dilation and even summoning beings they defeated in the past! Compared to how other semblances work (needing to sustain damage to increase their own damage output, move very quickly, have bad luck, need to be struck by lightning to increase physical strength, etc.), Weiss' semblance is way too versatile and powerful in comparison. It's like she and Winter have several semblances. It would have made more sense for one of the Schnee heirs in a distant past to have been the Winter Maiden, and in her knowledge about Salem and the war with Ozpin, managed to find a way to tie her powers only to her family and called it a "hereditary semblance" at the cost of the women in the Schnee family having actual semblances. But nope, the one main character that uses magic circles on a daily basis is the one that says "semblances exist but magic doesn't" and then doesn't have magical powers.

To be fair, a most of what they do with their Semblance is via combining it with Dust. You can narrow everything else pretty much into "pushing and or pulling" with the white and black glyphs being the basic state of their Semblances with no Dust alteration, purely pushing and pulling. While almost everything else is pushing some effect of dust through the glyph. Almost everything else but the summoning aspect of the Semblance. Which considering Weiss initially wasn't able to access that aspect at all, I'd like to think that that aspect is what's more affected by Magic. Maybe they're distantly related to Ozma, and as such have inherited a slight amount of his power. Or maybe, as you said, it could be that they're descended from a Maiden. Edit: I wrote this before I watched all of the video and it's nice to see that other people have also come to the same conclusion as me.

I'd argue that Yang's aura's status is relatively confirmed via her scroll displaying it being almost gone and the volume taking place over a 48hr-ish period not giving a chance to recharge it outside of the brief time at the maintenance/checkpoint station. It's also why all of their aura's are more easily depleted in the final episodes of v8 cause it's like a DnD party that hasn't had a "long" or "short" rest. Also Weiss's glyphs through-line is being tied to aura and there's a pretty interesting theory about semblances being the fragment of the "unlimited magic" of the previous incarnation of humans. In essence the Schnee bloodline would be one tapped into more of or having a bigger overall piece of that within them that allows their abilities. It's also akin to having a multi-job class in an RPG that has a variety of magic skills. There's also precedent for super powerful semblances in the same tier via Neo who can literally alter or at least bend reality. For Qrow, Clover, and Ironwood's I see it as essentially the equivalent to passive skills in RPG's that don't drain aura, but could be adjusted to just take a minimum amount due to their low effects and non-direct activation. Also in their cases they'd leave them in a state of them being active as having lived with the effects long enough would alter their thinking. Qrow would always be looking out for bad things to happen, even if his semblance was "off"; Ironwood already has the personality underneath Mettle to mimic it's effect (which also goes into the idea of semblances being based on the person's traits, though I believe it's a case by case thing); etc. Also semblances have never been said to be positive always, so the idea of negative impacting ones like Ironwood's Mettle fit. Magic = infinite and unmatched in power & scale Semblance = finite and so far at least no world-scale ones exist (the closest to it are Neo and the Schnee's) Dust = finite and far lesser in oomph Qrow going into bird form, costs no aura as it's a magic vs. it being a semblance in which case it'd drain his aura. Aura = finite; magic = infinite pool. It's a rough comparison but still works: Fossil fuels vs. solar energy. Both are fuels that make energy to power things, however the first is far more limited and non-renewable; while the latter is infinite and renewable. I'd even say that semblances are a sub-set of magic that is heavily broken, because of the Gods abandoning the 2nd generation reducing it from infinite to a finite but renewable (with rest) version. Salem never lost her original body; Oz has been through multiple reincarnations thus losing his. That can easily go towards why his magic is depleting vs. Salem's. Not to mention whatever effects being introduced to the Brother's Grimm had on her. The difference between the case with the Wyvern and Leviathan = Ruby's knowledge of the Silver-Eyes. The Wyvern case was her instinctively activating them without having a clue she could do so; Leviathan was her actively engaging them. This can be furthered by looking to young Maria who's able to fully petrify a Nevermore without too much effort, because at that point she'd been trained and had experience as a Silver-Eyes user. For Salem to do as you mention, she'd have to explain in detail the structures of Vacuo and how all of it would work; else Ambrosius would take his liberties or just not do it. On top of that among those killed would be the Maiden that could open the Vault; since as shown in v5 & 7-8 Cinder can't open all of them simply by being a Maiden. As for the acting during the time-freeze: Jinn has already warned Ruby that she won't be used in that manner outside the one time; and Ambrosius potentially would have the same view. However in the Cinder case as shown, the evacuation space was breaking down due to her using it to burn Watts; hanging around there as far as she'd know would be a death sentence. My personal grievance with the idea of "hard magic system" is that as a writer I don't want to have to spend hours figuring every single bloody detail out. I appreciate the idea of "it does the thing because that's what it does", after already putting in said time to muddle over that territory vs. the actual story. I can legit say I've spent more time thinking on how various "systems" work, than on story progression in several works; to the point that at several times I've had to pause works from being aggravated and burned out just from that. So yeah, I'm very much willing to let them ride on a "soft magic system" as a fellow creative.

Couldn’t one also explain the inconsistencies with the shield aspect of aura by saying that you have to consciously maintain the shield, it’s not a passive thing, or at the very least it’s not just a passive thing, it can be controlled to some degree, possibly even focused? So to use the Yang example, when she hit the ground at terminal velocity she knew it was coming and was able to prepare herself for the impact, perhaps even focusing her aura to better deal with the force of her hitting the ground? We know you can focus your aura, Ren was seen doing it in his fight when Pyrrha was explaining aura, and in volume 7 when Vine was training Jaune he seemed to imply the idea of “extending” your aura isn’t necessarily limited to certain semblance, so it’s not like aura is limited to a general physical enhancement, a force field, and a unique superpower. Also could explain why sometimes characters get their shield broken by a significantly less powerful attacks then ones they’ve taken previously with no problems. Either they were caught off guard or the attack hit them in a way they didn’t expect, like they try protecting their head but an enemy goes for a gut punch, or they just didn’t focus their aura at all and the base level shield they maintain in combat wasn’t enough to go block it. Also could be used to say just loosing the shield doesn’t necessarily mean you’re out of aura, you just need to re-establish the shield, still might need some explaining. Might have been nice if the characters were seen attending a class that explains this while they still had the advantage of being in a school setting where a teacher could be shown quizzing or lecturing the characters on aura usage and not have it feel out of place, but what’s done is done. I suppose one could do it retroactively, say in the next volume Neo has a flashback to when she was younger, maybe meeting Roman, maybe include a scene of him or someone else teaching her how to properly use Aura, could serve as a character moment while also giving some much needed explanation for the power system.

3:06 3:15 In V5 C4, Oz tells Oscar to engage his aura meaning that aura changed from being always active to something the user switches on. 10:38 10:50 Ruby can’t attack while in her petal burst form because Penny explained Ruby’s semblance as “capable of traveling at an extreme velocity from one point to another by breaking herself down to her molecular components thus negating her mass” 14:15 14:20 In V6 C3, Jinn describes Salem as “a being of infinite life” 14:48 14:58 Or can be extracted artificially via Atlas technology or Cinder's grim arm 16:22 16:31 I am dubious about that because V8 C8 revealed that the hound was a sliver eyed warrior

Part 3 When it comes to Aura breaking they should put those Aura chart things on screen for the audience so we could at least know how much Aura and stamina the characters have because I still find it confusing that back and volume one or two Glenda told John that he should pay attention to his Aura and battle but how are you supposed to pay attention to your aura and battle and fight unless you have special glasses that show you during the fight how much or you have left and let you focus on fighting the grim which actually isn't a bad idea to have or a glasses that show you how much power you have left Im not sure why the main cast of heroes or us have been breaking so easily it doesn't make sense if anyone's or should be breaking the easiest at this point it should be Oscars because he has less training than everybody sure he's gotten a bit stronger physically and mentally thanks to training and Atlas and being with the others in the hero team but his Aura is still the weakest like it just took ironwood shooting him with one bullet for it to break it took the hound stomping him two times for it to break which is actually understandable because the hound seems really powerful so it breaking Oscars Aura as quick as it did make sense I think it would have broken anybody's aura that quickly no matter how long they've been training or how much or they have But the way the main cast auras have been breaking so easily just didn't make sense to me this season the only times it made sense to me is with Ron Jon and yang because they have been out in the cold fighting grim all day and then trying to get Oscar back and then they got to the point where they were in the well and their auras were breaking that made sense to me and I'll give it a pass to say that when everybody got to the magical doorway dimension and they were fighting cinder I don't think they all had that long to really replenish their aura or get any sleep after everything they had been to through during the day so I do believe they all had weekend auras from everything they had been through and not getting the proper rest they had needed the only ones who had actually gotten proper rest were Nora who had gotten knocked out in Penny kind of cuz she was also knocked out but we don't know how pennies or replenishing ever worked because for the longest time she was a machine and I was always under the inclination that Penny even though she had Aura could possibly just plug herself into a outlet and charge herself up a bit more honestly and maybe get more power or carry like an emergency power bank on her to help recharge herself and fight but Penny's not here anymore so I'm not even sure if that theory even matters at this point and like I said Nora was the only one who had gotten any real rest so she was the only one who possibly had the strongest amount or after taking all the damage she did breaking down that door with her semblance And speaking of semblances and Aura we've seen it that symbolances use up a lot more of the aura and that's one of the reasons why I think the writers had it where is John became a healer and could give his Aura away is that when it comes to characters again like Weiss her abilities should phase out real quick considering how strong and so many abilities she has when it comes to Aura and her assemblance like she should be out of oral within at least a good five to maybe 10 minutes after starting combat but I think maybe she makes up for what she's losing Aura by using dust a lot more when it comes to her attacks like if they were going to give her summoning they should have had it where the summonings were made of dust and that way it wouldn't seem like they use up a lot of Aura cuz even in one of the animes I've seen where people criticize the animation and stuff fairy tale the main character uses summoning spirits as her main form of magic and if she's uses more than two or three spirits in a summoning it drains her magic completely so I get that wise using summoning is one of her mango two things but after a while she should be drained of her power unless she's fueled by magic like winter is her Aura should be depleting the fastest and her Aura should be breaking the quickest Because we also have to look at auras and strength How strong a person is seems to also dictate how long their Aura last on sometimes as well like we've seen it where Yang should be able to maintain her Aura longer than anybody out of anybody in the main cast next to Oscar who should have the weakest Aura the next person with the weakest Aura like I said should be wise because her aura gets used up the most out of anybody's and the two with the strongest or should then be, Ruby and John after that it should follow with Ren Blake and Nora and then it should follow up after that with wife and Oscar, and if you want to add emerald in as a part of this since she's with the heroes now I believe emerald is somewhere in between Yang and Ruby and Blake when it comes to how her or works cuz centering we've never really seen heart or a break and she has a great mastery and control over her assemblance And going back to magic again especially ozma's magic We know since Oscar thankfully told us and show that the more they use magic the faster they merge and we've seen it where Oscar at first didn't have a choice because he was falling from Atlas he unlocked the rest of his magic that you say it was perfectly timed or just convenient yes you can but I think that they were possibly going to have him unlock magic and volume eight either way because it was mentioned a while back on Twitter that the writers were expecting something big for Oscar and volume eight and I believe it was where he was going to unlock what little magic he had left since he's a like-minded soul of oz because someone asked back when the game Amity arena was out is when we were going to see Oscar in the game he's one of the only few characters we never got to see in The Amity arena game that fans were asking about we got characters from side stories light novels and even characters we haven't seen in the show and almost 5 to 6 years in this game so I think even Ruby's mom was in this game and Oscar who is the main person tied to the plot in the Ruby story was not put in the game but somebody who was working at Ruby I believe or on the game said that they didn't send include Oscar in the game but they were waiting for volume 8 to end because And I will believe it was him unlocking magic and he would be put in the game using this magic but from what we seen he can't use this magic too much or he'll merge faster and so far we've only seen him use it three or four times so far and from what Oscar fans have speculated they believe that the merge is 70 to possibly 80% almost complete even Salem and ironwood themselves said that Oscars merge was almost complete I believe there is a possible time limit that they both do know about that it probably takes about half a year for the merge to complete or at least 8 months to a year for it to be done and considering the amount of time Oscar's been with the others I say about maybe four to five months have passed since Oscar's joint the main group because it's been believed that team Ruby were in Atlas somewhere from three to possibly four months before Volume 8 when they were in Atlas the whole time so he was with them and volumes 5 through 6 I believe about a month had passed or two so the time adds up to when his merch should possibly be complete And considering the Lost Fable was one of The best received and best episodes of Ruby today and it had such this amazing world building you think the writers would focus on it a bit more but for some reason they've been afraid or maybe to all over the place to go back to that main topic because I think it should come up again at some point in the show especially considering they're probably aren't that many volumes of Ruby left at best I can see Ruby going to 12 volumes like everyone predicted but considering how popular and well loves Ruby is despite things going on right now with the company that owns Ruby and how voice actors are currently reacting to the current situation with rooster teeth I could still see Ruby going to possibly Volume 15 if we're lucky and they're going to have to address the main plot that they have set up when it comes to Oz the merge Salem the relics and the gods of light and destruction those are several big key points that are real important and the only parts of it we focused on so far are just the relics like yeah we know Salem can't be killed but we haven't given that much more focus on her or even Oscar and Oz is merge at this point and I think that's a big plot point they need to focus on to

Quick note on Yang's Aura in Volume 8: the entire Volume occurs within the span of 2 days, and she fought Salem directly no more than 3 hours prior, after hiking in the cold to the point where her Aura was waning with about 2 hours in shelter. Aura regeneration would take time, so she's not empty when Neo strikes her but she's pushing herself with no rest. RWBY forgets this with Winter in the finale of V8, though it might be chalked up to Penny's soul and Maiden Magic shenanigans.

8:20 Wiess’ semblance is very briefly explained in the early volumes, with the glyphs existing and when dust of a certain type is added causes it to have an additional effect ie: gravity for push/pull, wind for speed boost etc. I admit it’s only explained like once and due to me watching the show way to much that detail was stuck in my head. Now the main thing about her semblance is actually that it’s a pre-requisite for summoning her giant knight, it’s also very briefly explained as her summoning something she herself felled in battle ie: the WHITE trailer knight, and the giant bee from the airship. We are also shown that, that is intact the main use of the semblance since Winter only uses glyphs as stepping stones or to summon a Beowolf(early volume) This is NOT the only 2-step semblance that has been shown, we also have Velvet with her camera where she needs a picture ahead of time to both copy the weapon and fighting style and even then it’s only once per photo for a limited time Then we get into very uniquely broken and unexplained abilities like Neo’s. She is seen being able to more or less teleport herself and someone else at will, change her looks(including height, sex, and other details) like X-men’s Mystique, and also do that to objects

Neo's is pretty insane, yes. I've been told it gets better explained in "Roman Holiday" but I haven't read it yet. Velvet doesn't actually need a hard-light copy of the weapon to copy the fighting style. She could grab any similar physical weapon and go nuts.

With the maidens I think the reason they know is that they inherit that particular knowledge from the previous one like in avatar but not their memories or soul like with penny and winter and them meeting in the end. I don't think the writers realized either, that a maiden could be biologically be a male, after penny considered herself as a girl even though she had no biology when given the maiden powers in Vol 7 at the end but got them proving her to be a real girl.

What an enjoyable video and I love your outro quote "May all of you have a weapon in each hand" its just sounds good along with being naming appropriate. I did want to mention something on note of Ruby's semblance that may have been mentioned by someone else (But I am to lazy to read all the comments). Her semblance is clarified by Harriet to not be speed but something else entirely. What is known is that it makes her faster, grants limited flight AND she is protected from harm in the petal form. The implied function is to be something akin to a gaseous form spell from dungeons and dragons, providing a lot of defensive power and utility. Its also worth noting that Ruby never quickly shifts into or out of her semblance and follows it with any attacks. There is always a delay, like her whole self needs to be present, before she can perform some actions. It is only a second or two but the fact its consistent implies it is a restriction that does explain it not being used in an unbeatable combo attack maneuver.

I always thought he lied about making the maidens. It made little sense to make them, A huge risk, and low pay off... Why does Salem only have one female employee when to open the vaults you need a female to have the power? My guess was always the maidens being an accidental by product of their union. 4 children who were all girls died with them being a combo of Salem (high magic) and Ozpin (Reincarnation) which caused their magic to go to the next female user. And Ozpin just flat out lied to make him seem more powerful or the guardian of the power instead of realizing it was a failed version of his curse.

The maidens come from the story that is about them. Where an old ozpin at full power basically gave up all hope on defeating Salem. The maidens made him happy and in gratitude he gave them all a piece of his power to help others in need, something he feels like he can't do for some reason.

Part 1 I'm putting my comment in to 3 parts caz it's long sorry I'm glad somebody's finally calling out this stuff for Weiss's semblance a part of me always thought that they stopped having wife's due time dilation is because they had introduced ozpin / ozma and time seems to be his thing so I figured they stopped having her do that because he Her siblings truly is all over the place a lot of the things they're doing with her siblings should be like something only the maidens oz are Salem should do I think they should have dialed back on some of the powers and abilities they gave to Weis when it comes to her semblance like the ability to summon past folds and Grimm should have been Oz's semblance like we know he has to possibly have a semblance that should have been his semblance that he awakened to summon pastels and grim since he's been around the longest to see multiple types of grim throughout history or maybe have it where maidens could send some what do that and if winter ended up with a summoning ability after becoming a maiden it would have made sense one thing I do know about some maidens and the silver is that they're both connected to ozma this is something that wasn't mentioned in the show but in one of the volume six or seven commentaries is that the silver eye warriors are all connected to ozma and that their ability to use silver eyes that are connected to the God of light is kind of like how the maidens have a form of his curse where the power reincarnates the same way he reincarnates so the silver eyes or something that are hereditary that come from any person who's related to someone who was like-minded soul of ozma i admit they could have done explaining the magic in the show a lot better like I'm making my own magic system and I've explained it better with a pie chart then this show could like I don't know why they couldn't have explained it a bit better I don't think it's that hard but I figured out how this magic system works in this show and from what Is there a various different forms of magic people can tap into similar to how they're various types of dust and elemental forces on remnant and these people at birth when they are born are giving the four traits that the gods the two brothers have made for humanities the same way they made the relics creation knowledge destruction and choice when a human is born they are created and destruction is given to them by the god of darkness so they can use that destruction with whatever knowledge they gain and choices they choose and how to use it and that is how they're using that magic at least this is how it seems to me and the only sense I can make of it

My main issue with the show is that there are far too many powersets introduced too soon (First there was technology, then Aura, Semblances, and finally Magic). We don't get too familiarized with one before we're onto the next cool thing. Your Aura example at the start is good. Another example is whether Aura can protect one from chemical weapons, gas and liquid. That's not even mentioning how Magic in this show seems a bit less impressive compared to Semblances despite how much the show hypes up Magic.

Rather than becoming dimmer I think the aura barrier should become brighter the more it becomes damaged. That way powerful attacks or circumstances that forces the barrier to reveal itself becomes much more tangible and impactful.

I know this was posted a year ago but I have a theory on the glyphs I think it how they are drawn in there minds there probably a book of glyphs that they have to learn or figure out how to create in there minds

Actually, it would not be a soft magic problem, it is simply that the sun system is not fully posed, or it has not been made clear even within the series.

I've always had this head-canon about why Grimm are such a threat to aura users. Basically, despite aura allowing characters to not only survive some in sane shit but also keep fighting effectively after surviving said in sane shit, my idea is that due to the very nature of grim, their attacks do significantly more damage to aura than the actual force and strength of said attack might imply. For example, a simple, ineffectual glancing blow of a swiping Ursa, something that'd bump a normal person on their ass but not hurt them that much, could do several times that damage to an aura, or just by an aura user making prolonged physical contact with a non-hostile grimm could slowly damage their aura. Yeah, I know, kind of a dumb theory, but I still like it.

Part 2 An when it came to the maidens I believe that during that life as the hermit oz was touched by how kindhearted those girls were not knowing it at the time he gave them parts of his magic I believe he was in such a depressed state he felt that no matter what he did or what powers he had it wasn't enough to unite people or stop Salem so he created the maidens with the idea that people would kind hearts and kind souls could maybe make a difference I also believe he saw his daughters in those four maidens and that's why he was willing to give them parts of his power but one thing he didn't know like what the silver eyes warriors told possibly later is that his curse affected his powers and that giving those powers to other people affected them too and that when the maidens die not their memory but their muscle memory and control over the magic transfers to another person if they're female for some reason going from life to life will go to another female host and they'll inherit those Powers muscle memory and fighting abilities similar to how his curse works where his magic muscle memory and soul over time take over And when it comes to th silver eyes warriors if Oz reincarnates into somebody and that like-minded soul has kids after oz reincarnates into them those kids may end up with silver eyes or down the line their grandkids are some kid gets affected by Oz's reincarnation curse similar to how the maintenance are affected and silver eye warriors began to be born and their silver eyes have an effect on the ground the same way the god of lightsabilities affect the god of destruction's creation the grim to keep things in When it comes to the maidens and how they use their magic I believe in the beginning the writers weren't that sure about how to use the maidens the magic and semblances all at once so I believe when they had Amber the first fall mating we saw in volume three lose her aura her maiden power start working but I believe that's because she wasn't fully trained in her powers and I know this hasn't been What i theorized is is the maidens will use their powers similar to how they've been trained to use their semblances and if they're Aura breaks out they don't realize that they could just use their magic to regenerate their aura because they have magic and magic is limitless from what it seems But in the later volume it seems that winter and cinder do realize they can regenerate their aura using their magic and that they can limitlessly fight till they get tired or get knocked out When it comes to the maiden powers like I said their abilities they should be able to use are limitless even though they can only use elemental powers that are their own from what I've seen it seems like although they can control and manipulate the weather they do have a main elemental theme which are just the basic four elements fire wind / air, lightning and I don't know ice I believe kind of and I'm actually glad that the maintenance are limited to only elemental control because if they had magic similar how the people in the original humans who had magic if they had similar magic to that that Oz and Salem has then battles will be one too quickly because they would have unlimited magic they could use and battles like I said would be one too quickly so the writers did make a smart choice and just limiting them to elemental powers because even with elemental powers there's so much you could do but there are so many other abilities that could also block out these abilities that maidens have like with wices abilities and her semblance I believe if Weiss and both winter with both their abilities combined and maybe bring amplified by John in battle could probably best send her and take her down powerful their semblances are When it comes to Aura in this show it's all over the place I do like they showed a shimmering effect that shows the ore is getting weaker and I do like how they have it where the aura breaks it looks like fairy does breaking away I hate that they do have that shimmer effect though when people use their semblances like how they have John do that when he's healing or other people when they're using their semblances outside of the main four girls it just has that weird shimmer effect and it's kind of boring I think they should try to make it more unique for each person they did try to do something like that in volume 8 with May marigold's character where they had her and volume seven her Aura had that shimmer effect like John's or does button volume eight they changed it where it wasn't doing that shimmer effect when she had everybody invisible when they were infiltrating Atlas to get Ruby's message out

I mean splitting your magic and giving it to people is not the same as casting spells. Could be that sonce magic is a part of osma its like spliting a piece of yourself off. Theres not an infinite amount of you

While there is 0 evidence for this in the series my HC is that sembelences are independant of aura, sure you first need to unlock your aura to unlock your semblence but you don’t need to have an aura to use your semblance in most cases. Forexample; Ruby or Harrow can use their sembelences even if their aura is depleted since they don't seem to be dependent on aura, Qrow and Clover's semblence are always active even if their aura break while Jaune and Ren can't use their sembelence without aura since Jaune's semblence allows him to boost others aura by using his own as a battery and Ren's seem to work by covering others in his aura. Then there is ofcourse Yang whose damage absorb aspect depends on her aura but she could probably use the absorbed damage even when she is out of aura(don’t ask me about recoil, if recoil aplies to Yang's semblence she would break her aura whenever she used her sembelences after 33% of her aura was gone since she deals double the damage she takes)
