3:08 I'm very glad you mentioned this. Marrow should have definitely done this front the start if he simply wanted to de-escalate things. Leaves them less room to hurt them. Also I don't even think them capturing objective is that much of a disadvantage. No one ever has difficulty only beating someone up to the point of low aura in this show and that includes Team RWBY. All they need to do is knock them out just like the heroes.

Actually Yang has been shown to need to reload at least once before in the Yellow trailer, can't remember if its happened since but it has happened. Also why they didnt have Ruby switch her weapon to a different form that works with her speed is beyone me. She could have gotten good shots if she just put it in rifle mode as she has done before

Great analysis! 24:10 To be fair, Weiss has always been doing a quick spin before using her Projectile Glyphs seen all the way back to the White trailer. It's probably required for casting this ability. Her Glyphs generally seem to require specific motions, but as always with RWBY it's not entirely consistent.

Thanks! Weiss' spinning has probably always just been just visual flair, but it's just funny to watch when you watch the fights at quarter-speed.

Another thing to point out, Elm and Nora basically use the same weapon, yet only Nora thinks to use her explosives in conjunction with the hammer form, hell, Yang is guilty of this too, especially since the splash damage could be used to charge her semblance

5:49 Yeah but relying on a leader should not come at the cost of basic common sense. Not to mention, did Ironwood just... never establish a chain of command in the Ace Ops? Like who would be the secondary leader in case Clover isn't around? The freaking Straw Hat pirates had the sense to do that.
@abelzerihun7985

"Not to mention, did Ironwood just... never establish a chain of command in the Ace Ops?" -The only thing we do know is that Clover/Winter are at the top and Marrow is at the bottom. "Like who would be the secondary leader in case Clover isn't around?" -The reason for that is because the writers want to make Ace Ops fail due to not being friends and establishing a chain of command would muddle the message. Conversely, Winter ordering the Ace Ops and the rest of a platoon towards the whale still ruins the message. Also, we can't forget Ren speech: "That's why you lost against team RWBY you you try to fight how you feel about each other so you'll never truly work as a team".

I like your concept of the fight much better than what we got in the show. It feels more dynamic and I remember hoping that Team RWBY would switch up who they were fighting as they tried to escape, play off of each other's strengths and weaknesses. Sadly, we didn't get any of that. While I enjoy RWBY, watching videos like this really help me pin down the unsatisfied or bad taste it sometimes leaves after I'm done watching an episode, because sometimes it's hard for me to articulate really why it didn't sit well with me. Stuff like this really helps and is fun to watch.

Thank you! It felt like the show was trying to portray RWBY working as a team more than the Ace Ops, but what we got was more of the Ace Ops making mistakes that they really shouldn't have.

I like your analyses of the fight. Too bad this story is written by people; I suspect have never had to be in a physical brawl, much less a fight for their lives. As for Marrow not using his semblance right off the bat. (just head cannon theory) I have always assumed it was tied to his Adrenalin level. So, he would have to since danger before he could use it. That is the only resin I can imagine he has to be well into a fight before uses it.
@TheDual-Wielder

Thank you. I get that the whole style of the show (and others like it) is meant to be exaggerated, but this is why you consult someone who has understanding of certain topics. You can still keep the style of the action, but someone who has martial arts training or has been in fights before could help the choreography be that much better.

2:48-2:58 For example, Marrow using it to stop Vine, Elm, and Harriet. Qrow even said “Sorry guys but we don’t want to fight”. 3:59-4:02 The Ace Ops training RWBY was never a top priority in V7. In fact, Clover states to RWBY that "Your top priority is Amity Tower that means protecting supply runs from grimm and bandits and protecting the site itself.”, and a majority of their time was spend on huntsmen missions. Ruby and Harriet running in circles together is the only time a member of each team trained, but it doesn’t teach Ruby anything at all. 4:21-4:25 What you’re leaving out is that Ruby’s petal burst negates her mass, but her breaking through the metal doors is a continuity error. 4:30-4:42 Ruby could’ve taken the rest of team with her like what she did to get passed the crowd of Atlas personnel. 5:13-5:20 He even sideswiped Ruby, Weiss, and Blake off a catwalk. 13:46-13:50 Weiss could’ve encased Marrow in ice like she did to team ABRN. 23:25-23:30 Because Weiss used wind to push him into the wall. You can see the wind effect at the 22:54 mark. 25:05-25:08 But Ruby’s semblance breaks her body down on the molecular level meaning she couldn’t grab the restraints in the first place. 26:55-27:00 Now we know the restraints don’t inhibit a semblance.
@Capt.Thunder
@Capt.Thunder 22 дня назад
For Point 1), yeah, Marrow's semblance is silly. They failed to properly define its limitations, so there is no meaningful stakes. That said, you can sort of guess that they at least have to be close together so that he can look at all of them. They should have split up much sooner during the talking stage to prevent him doing that, as they know what he's capable of. For Point 2), it's tricky to pin down because all of their training happens in a one short sequence, but it is inferred that that is the culmination of their training, rather than a one-off. For Point 3), agreed, Rooster Teeth made a point of telling us this via Penny, but they then routinely forget it. For Point 4), is that in this volume? It's been a while. This is in 7, right? And I thought that the transport reveal happened in 8. But in fairness, even if I'm wrong and it was earlier in this volume, it was shown to be very taxing for Ruby, not the sort of thing she could pull off in such a short window of time without Harriet responding, and she probably couldn't leverage it enough to get the others out. I can also accept that she can't maintain her semblance for long periods, that she needs to take breaks in between, especially true if she's carrying other people inside it, which is where Harriet would have the advantage. For Point 5), agreed, although that would be less effective here as you can't push them off anything. Maybe pin them to a wall for a moment? Yang's balance is notoriously terrible, but her strength is rarely in doubt. I'm kinda bored of Yang just being thrown, they do it to her every single fight, so you'd think she would be working to counteract that, as it's her biggest difficulty atm. Maybe an anchor rope gadget, or at least more teamwork with Blake's weapon to catch and redirect her. For Point 6) true, I'd forgotten that. That's neat. If only they bothered to remember anything that anyone is capable of. For Point 7) yeah, I was also a bit confused why he was acting like it was some sort of gravity glyph. On a similar note, I do wonder if impaling him on spikes was in character for Weiss - I know they just wanted the cool factor of the big sword cutting through them while Marrow does acrobatics to dodge, but it never sat well with me. For Point 8) yep, they just don't keep track of that. It's really cool. For Point 9) yeah, obviously making people unable to use their arms is good, but not a K.O. Did they say that it disables semblances explicitly? It's been a while. I could believe it, it's the sort of thing they would forget about.

One thing, Harriet declaring them the "best huntsmen in Atlas" is not really trash-talking, but rather boasting. Trash-talking in a confrontation can proclaim oneself as the best if that's what would work. The purpose of trash-talk is not to show confidence or necessarily to diminish the opponent, but to anger them (like Ruby does immediately after with her line). Boasting, on the other hand, is about ego and forcing an image of yourself as if you had confidence. It's not a big deal, but I care about semantics lol.
@KeeKage37

There is another factor to consider in this fight. The Ace Ops seem to be divided from the start. Marrow and Vine want to bring team RWBY in peacefully. Meanwhile Harriet, and Elm want to fight. There not on the same page and are arguing with each other. Meanwhile team RWBY all have the same objective. Beat the Ace Ops and escape.

just an observation but you'd expect the huntsmen academies to also train their students to manage their emotions especially since negative emotions attract the very grimm they swore to protect people from, having "the best huntsmen in atlas" harriet, elm, and even yang to some extent get so easily pissed off during a fight makes them look so unprofessional in their job lol 😭

If your gonna give Marrow a op ability might as well give him some weaknesses if he uses that ability but he can just use it without any strain
@kodybulbasaurhat2332
@kodybulbasaurhat2332 7 месяцев назад
Something i think that is being overlooked is the fact that both aura cloaks and semblance are controlled by the person simultaneously, they hav to constantly manipulate their aura for defense while also using it to fuel their semblances if during the fight they start taking a barrage of hits they need to focus their aura on their defense, so if they try to use their semblance at the same time as the barrage it wont be as strong as other times theyve used it because more aura is going to their defense rather than their offense, plus aura strengthens their bodies, their weapons ect tht can explain the inconsistentsy of when aura breaks and how they can take heavy hits at one point but their aura breaks to a lighter hit later
@Capt.Thunder
@Capt.Thunder 22 дня назад
That is definitely how it should work, it would be really cool if it did. In practice, however... No evidence of that is particularly forthcoming, people's aura usually breaks just when they want the fight to be over.

9:53 I hate to say it but if you slow down any fight that has Blake in it she seems to be rather bad at hitting a target, i know shes meant to be a stealth fighter but she should still be able to hit a target in a stright fight in fact in the next Volume she launches a bunch of attacks at the Jabberwalker when its attacking the village and yet she near hits the thing, yse she helps Yang but Yang seemed to have the situation in hand

In fairness, you need to be a certain tier of anime head to instinctively recognise what shadow clones are. They are illusory in nature so it's not incorrect for him to call them that, even though it does not fully encapsulate what they do.

Factually one of the worst fights in the entire show. The choreography is bad and even on narrative level, it’s awful. So bad that the writers had to make up multiple excuses afterwards. For me it’s the fact that they don’t showcase ANY growth in their fighting. They all do the same exact things they’ve been doing. Weiss relies on her summoning and hardly goes in herself, Ruby literally did nothing different than she ever has. Yang and Blake only fought and protected eachother
