RWBY | Ruby's Volume 9 Arc was FILLER 

ruby went from “I hate myself” to “I love myself” in a very meaningless and hard to believe way

Guys forgetting the lesson ruby learned from volume 9 its to love yourself like her mother said. So forget causing a godzilla like grim to attack and putting people in danger and forget causing ironwood to go mad and causing mantle and atlus to get destroyed also losing the relecs to the villans just love yourself. If you love yourself you can do no harm🙂

They picked an awful time for Bumblebee. RWBY failed to stop Salem, are thrown off the magic bridge and into a new world (the many civilians that were also thrown off the bridge by Cinder are pretty much yeeted into oblivion), they know that mankind just lost its strongest army force, the civilians are stranded and stuck in a hostile desert, RWBY are stuck in the new world with no clear way back, and Salem is alive and well with the artifacts. Humanity in Remnant is pretty screwed right now, but Yang and Blake can only talk about their feelings... Not to mention the scene where Ruby is saying everything is screwed up only for Yang to once again crap on Ironwood by telling Ruby not to think like him, even though Ruby is right.

I feel like a scene where Ruby talks to a manifestation of Summer after touching her axe would have been enough. In that scene summer could have a long conversation her about her own flaws and her own mistakes. In that scene she could say something along the lines of “You’ve done so much more to help the world than I ever did, just by being yourself.” Then Summer could do something like guide Ruby back to Crescent Rose and say something like, “Just know I’ll always be by your side”. Afterwards, Ruby can come back as herself, but with some elements of Summer’s design such as longer hair, some white in her cape, and a crescent rose with more silver in it like Summer’s. In the end, her design could communicate something along the lines of, ‘Summer gave Ruby the strength to go on as herself’

They did a terrible job tackling Ruby's depression. She had all her depression and guilt build up and have her failures shoved in her face by Neo, bringing her to the point that she didn't want to be herself anymore, and by the end, it's all forgotten. There was no reasonable transition from feeling inadequate as herself to then feeling like being herself is enough, 5 minutes later. How did she come to this conclusion? Will there be anything different about how she acts going forward compared to how she did before? Otherwise, she basically learned nothing and we have no reason to believe she won't keep making the same mistakes. They have all her friends, including her sister, be uncharacteristically blind to her feelings, despite what they just went through, they play no part in her getting over it, and they don't even apologize for not reaching out to her as much as they should've. Because she came back with all her depression erased, there was no longer any need for them to take responsibility for her well-being, allowing them to act like nothing was ever wrong with her. Some teammates they are. I wouldn't be surprised if Vacuo ends up destroyed because of them, and once again, they'll take no blame for it.

Ruby: I don't want to be me anymore. Also Ruby: What happens if I choose me?

It’s funny how they force character development on Ruby by figuratively “ killing herself” and then she comes back the same person she was before, just not sad 💀

Summer Rose: I love you just the way your are. Yeah a out of context flashback message is all that is needed for Ruby to get a pick me up out of her depression. YEAH Ruby and Jaune this volume needed therapy for their emotional trauma. Then again writing a suicide story is a land mine of its own. RT did not nail the landing there

It was so weak...and how they handled depression and how the other characters acted after wa just...I'm done

as someone whos been diagnosed with severe depression since 2019, i find it funny in a cynical way that part of v9’s lesson was essentially “its ok to go kys”

This volume was honestly disturbing to me at some points. I hate how the team barely cared about Ruby's issues and didn't really react that much to her practically committing suicide. Speaking of which Yang is honestly the worst character in the show thanks to this season. She never really cares about Ruby and only does when the plot demands it, Yang and Blake only exist to pander to the shipping community which really shows when their own voice actresses even use it in their only fans.

All of this could’ve been avoided if they just had Ruby talk to her teammates; Yang and Jaune especially. Even through this she still hasn’t had time to sit down and grieve

Can we please talk about the lack of reactions to certain things? Like when ruby is about to drink the tea and the others just stand and watch instead of doing something. If they wanted them to be in shock they should have showed up while she was already drinking the tea so that it would be clear that they were too late

I wish they did something similar to like Spectacular Spider-Man did with the Black Suit arc. Uncle Ben is what save Peter from permanently bonding with Venom. Imagine if they did that with Ruby and Summer. Summer showing Ruby all the good ruby did and the people she with and Ruby choosing to stay who she is.

The fundamental problem with Ruby's so called "character arc" is that it treats her failure as the result of her "not being good enough" rather than Ruby being wrong but the writers are FAR too narcissistic to see that. If they weren't, the pay off would certainly not have been Ruby deciding that she _doesn't_ need to change

Fam. I was fully expecting to eat my words halfway through. Jaune didn't really change much personality wise but the age thing would have been interesting and ruby seemed to ACTUALLY be trying to improve herself because she recognized that whatever they're doing now isn't working. But of course the moral ended up being "accept yourself because you're perfect the way you are." Just regain your confidence and keep doing the same thing over and over again until it works in your favor. Nevermind that de-aging jaune completely flies in the face of the whole "accept change" aspect of the volume but what-the-fuck-ever I guess.

The part that annoys me is that what they needed to do was so easy. Have Ruby share her self-appointted burden of decision making. To acknowledge she wasn't alone. That unlike her mother who chose to shoulder everything she would deviate and rely on others. It was that easy. They had the setup for it! Instead, they literally just reset her instead. "She was perfect as is." Wha-what? Guys, it was an easy layup. You had it!

I would've loved it if she came back as Vol. 1 Ruby where she's completely naive, but she has all her new memories and experiences. So team RWBY would be overjoyed she's back and even spunkier than ever, but it soon becomes clear she's also reverted all her lessons and is completely head-strong. Scythe-Gun first, questions later. And this is a RWBY that has all her new training with the personality of Vol. 1 Ruby, imagine how even more headstrong she'd be if she was now at Pro-Hunstman level to enable her. So rather than depression and trauma, she now has the exact opposite issues of hyper-optimism and complete brazenness that will have to be juggled.

Shonen protagonist Ruby would've worked better. All that was needed was her learning how to be a leader from other more accomplished leaders

I give her character arc an "I'm glad I pirated this volume/10"

The entire thing about self love and self acceptance would be easier to buy if Team RWBY weren’t all just the worst.

Jaune: *Stayed strong and hopeful for 20 years in the Ever After waiting for Team RWBY* Ruby: *Commits sudoku after 2-3 days in the Ever After*

I really wish ruby didn't lick up the mindset of "I don't need to reflect or improve! Despite failing multiple times I must stay the same because I'm perfect just the way I !"

Uh, guys....I'd like to take this moment to remind everyone that Salem achieved absolute victory and nothing that has happened in Volume 9 has changed that. Atlas, her primary threat, is obliterated. She has two of the four relics. In fact, I'd say the Staff of creation and the Lamp are probably the WORST items that she could have been allowed to have in her possession. Vacuo has just had two cites worth of refugees dumped on their doorstep, of which they can't hope to support and that not even mentioning how their combined fear will continuously draw in more and more grim towards the city which will weaken if further. Salem already even sent Mercury and Tyrian to Vacuo to scout for what is undoubtedly going to be a complete curb stomp of a victory. Even if Salem decided for some reason not to attack immediately, what possible chance would the heroes have in establishing another settlement capable of the security that was lost with Atlas? And again, Salem has the LAMP and the STAFF OF CREATION. Defeating her now has turned from an uphill battle to an almost complete impossibility. She has nothing but time, gents. ....But yeah, at least Ruby's not depressed anymore. -_-

ive seen people saying "wow, this is the best volume ever" homie. if this is the best volume, your standards must so SO low (if this is the best writting we can get in this show. im scared of what is coming next)

While obviously, she'd have always come around, my personal hope was just that she'd have a LITTLE chip on her shoulder going forward. Like, she'd still be pretty happy go lucky Ruby but also not taking anyone's shit kinda 😂

I’m honestly just mad that out of EVERYTHING that happened, she didn’t ask how the tree knew that memory. That would’ve been the first thing I asked. How did that specific memory get HERE?!

What I would have done, is have Rwby revert to her initial self at the beginning of the adventure. She loses all the trauma but gets all the confidence she had back in the red trailer era and is mostly just a super weapon nerd bundle of joy. Essentially turning into the self she saw as a hero. At first her crew would have been happy, then there would be a strong desire to protect her newly gained innocence, then there would be distance. She didn't learn the lessons, and there's a cold separation from her that they can't understand, in the same way jaune has from having the opposite of having waaay more experience. Rwby could have another dark ark where she hates her past self for what she did. And the restoration method would be unlocking and mastering her semblance which can disassemble herself and re-arrange her self. So it would all be about finding the order. it also makes the oscar rwby relationship less creepy since she essentially gets younger. Instead with they went with an option that she learns...actually the me that ****cks everything up is the me i want to be, i dont have to change. I can keep being the person who ****cks everything up and gets innocent people including my loved one's killed.

It will always bother me that the CRWBY team seem to actively not want to write for RWBY, this in particular could’ve lead to dozens of interesting ideas (I know I’ve had several on how this could’ve been resolved) and they still manage to go with the most boring possible choices. I have to question why they’re writing this when seem to have no interesting ideas for it

At this point, we're all better off reading RWBY fanfiction cuz they're written by people who actually care about the show and its characters.

Honestly I'm not surprised Rooster Teeth fumbled Ruby's mental issues this badly. They gave Ironwood autism to turn him evil for f**k's sake. Going deeper though, this was their LAST CHANCE to show Ruby acknowledging that she screwed up when it came to her decisions from Vol. 6 onward. She should've felt bad for stealing the airship from Cordo. She should've been tearing herself apart for lying to Ironwood. She should've realized *ALL* of her decisions from then on led to an entire kingdom destroyed, its people literally deserted, and Salem now having two Relics. But no. Instead Ruby's feeling sorry for herself. And then her mom tells her she's perfect and everything's *hunky-dory* again.

Ah yes the Arc that never was Get it because he doesn’t have to return as a whatever year old man.

They don't know what the real problem is. The moral is wrong. Ruby isn't fine the way she is. She fought cordo rather than send weiss. She lied to ironwood for no reason. She sacrificed an entire fucking kingdom to save penny when penny was fine sacrificing herself and giving ruby the power. Ruby rose is not fine the way she is. She consistently makes dangerous choices for entirely selfish reasons. She had to change. The fact that she didn't tells me the writers don't know what the problem is and i can expect more nonsense in the future

Honestly speaking, while I found this filler as well, my biggest issue is the lack of actual growth - They essentially had god go at the end of the volume "You're on the right path", and tie that in with the obvious sudoku that Ruby did, I found the message to be honestly kinda gross. Even more so how the rest of team RWBY didn't even actually try to help Ruby out.

After they got innocent people killed in a Grimm infested sandstorm and destroyed an entire nation Weiss: I think we're too hard on ourselves. I bet even the best huntsmen in history have failed, and they were brave and good. After the entire mess they experienced and caused in V9 Blake: Did we make things worse in the Everafter? Ruby: Probably. But we tried our best so it's OK. RWBY are antiheroes while Jaune is the main protagonist. Edit: The fact that Weiss considers the group reflecting on their misdeeds and the role they played in ruining countless lives as being too hard on themselves is fucking horrifying 😆

I have nothing of note to add to this other than this entire volume is case of, "Okay that's cool but why..." and then they undo it all. They go really hard on making Ruby go down this dark path. Surely they'll work towards her slowly getting up and coming back strong- oh wait. They hit the undo button. Jaune being a scarred old man is such an insanely cool thing. Surely they'll do something insane with that going forward. Having him be a reasonable adult man who has a lot of trauma and depression to deal with is pretty hype. I wonder how Ren and Nora going to handl- oh wait. No. They undid it. I don't want to talk about the absolute disaster that was Weiss. She used to be my favourite character, such an icon. But then they slapped this weird looking new design on her. I'm still not used to it and I absolutely hate it. They really didn't need to fix what isn't broken. But also. She's literally lost her entire homeland. Atlas is wrecked. Her father is dead. Technically she doesn't know if Winter, Willow and Whitley are doing alright or how they are handling all this. She's one of the characters who should've had the most on her plate next to Ruby. Hell, they could've gone through some stuff together and actually talked. But of all things they could've done with Weiss they... Made her a joke. Funny slapstick animations. Acting like a 90s Cartoon character. Awful comedic timing when things are supposed to be serious. They absolutely massacred my girl.

1:19 what makes this feel even flatter is that this line plays after she already denounced her mom and pushed her weapon to the ground.

I see alot of people compare Ruby to Luz from The Owl House, cheerful girls wanting to become heroes and are slapped with reality but learn to accept themselves. But there’s a difference, one worked and the other didn’t😒 Luz and TOH is about the outcasts, people rejected for not fitting the norms. Luz is a Bi weirdo in school and her mentor is a witch who refuses to join the Empire and learn magic the “normal” way. Luz believed that she needed to either be the witch she dreamed of or bend to societal norms to feel accepted. At the end she realised that what she wanted were a few people who understood and accepted her despite the flaws. This arc makes sense as Luz doesn’t have anything wrong about her. She learns and grows from mistakes but doesn’t become a completely different person. Ruby however isn’t just flawed, she’s clearly in the wrong. Her actions and keeping secrets costs a leader to lose his mind, The destruction of a whole city and the most evil woman being two steps closer to world conquest. She didn’t need to become a new person but she needed to accept what she did was wrong and grow from that mistake. It’s hard to say what lesson we’re trying to teach. Be less naive by sacrificing the few for the many or continue being optimistic in a world that’s pessimistic. It’s hard to say because Ruby and RWBY don’t have a clear message like Luz and TOH. TOH teaches you’re fine the way you are as long as you grow and find people who understand you. RWBY teaches you are fine the way you are, so don’t learn or grow despite the clear trail of destruction you’ve left. CRWBY is trying to have their cake and eat it. They want to pretend to be mature and deep by having Ruby be a questionable MC but don’t want to actually acknowledge her flaws and consequences.

I think what this scene needed was just Summer talking to Ruby, like a parent would if their kid was having problems, and Summer can relate to things Ruby is going through and share her experience as to help Ruby overcome her issues. It can show that Summer isn't as perfect as Ruby thinks and that she has flaws and makes mistake too but she overcame those and learned from them to be the person she is now, the person that Ruby looks up to. The "your just fine the way you are" is okay, but I think what Ruby needed to hear was "even if things go wrong, even if you make mistakes, that's okay. Face it, learn from it, and try again", Ruby's not a perfect leader and she still has room to grow, and yeah, the Atlas plan went pretty bad, but that's how it is and she has to face that and learn from it. To come back stronger to tackle it again with the experience she needs. Maybe also see that, while she's the leader she doesn't have to do everything alone, she's on a team afterall, so she doesn't have to carry the burden all by herself. Like, I'm pretty sure we've seen this in other shows or media, like basically, Ruby just needed that Uncle Ben or Kamina to set her on the right path when they were lost. I feel that would've made her return more impactful.

What I don't like about the Ascension plotline in general is that it has low stakes. They make it a point to not treat the reincarnation through the tree as a good thing when it remakes characters as someone new, which consequently makes Ruby's decision as a whole meaningless. If Ruby chose to change herself, it would only cosmetically different from Ruby choosing not to change herself because the show presents that choice as change rather than death. In simpler terms, Ruby's character arc about not needing to change was damaged by Jaune's character arc about accepting the inevitability of change. The latter conflicted with the stakes of the former, and consequently cheapens the impact.

The writers could’ve easily had Ruby meet with the tree and learn some valuable lesson in any other way that didn’t involve committing suicide to get to that point. And yet they chose to go this route.

Most interesting characters in this volume were just Little and the cat. Jaune to a degree too, but why is it that even when our main four girls are on screen the story just starts to get boring, imo.

it's disappointing what they're doing with taiyang. They're making it seem like out of team STRQ, he's the only one that was clueless about the stuff with salem. We only get to see raven, qrow, and (presumably) summer directly acknowledge it.

As it turns out for this volume of "self discovery", Ruby was always just a simple girl with simple knees... lol

The lesson for Ruby shouldn’t have been, “oh nothing was wrong with me, I shouldn’t have doubted myself, I’m perfect…” It should have been: “ok, I’m going to address the fact things have been bad, and quite frankly, I am broken. forcing a smile is hurting me and my team. But guess what, there’s nothing wrong with being broken. No one is perfect. A fairytale isn’t about a perfect ending where the villain is slain and the hero triumphs and finds true love. A fairytale is about a hero who doesn’t give up and tries and tries even if they fail. Because the act of heroism is more virtuous than trying to “win”. There is something wrong with failing, losing, and my friends dying. but that doesn’t make me an incomplete or worthless person. It makes me a hero. Because I tried and that’s what matters.” That’s the true lesson of a huntress.

This entire volume really just said “kys”.

They should have made Ruby gone solo huntress mode. Have her come back slightly older looking from the tree and she goes off on herself to go solo. The whole "I love you just the way you are." was so damn weak and forced to wrap everything up nicely.

What you think should have happened reminds me of Naruto when he meets and talks with his mom. Yeah I could see that work. Also I wouldn't mind if they turned it into something like a hyperbolic time chamber. Where Ruby can fight and train with her mom. Basically, a Goku and Gohan training session in the time chamber.

And people wonder why this show gets so much criticism. Because the characters and writers won't improve.

Neo was never part of the original plan. It's painfully obvious that Ruby was the one to be possessed. I'd like to know what was supposed to happen after that.

My biggest issue with this volume was what Jaune and the time fruit have done to this volume, and the rest of the series. Jaune, by playing with the time fruit, has caused multiple things to happen. Jaune has created a time loop, possible multiple timelines/universes because of the time loop, if the time loop is broken, it creates a time paradox, and he has caused the concept of free will in RWBY to be put into question. Meaning all of the decisions of past volumes by at least Jaune, and the decisions made by his family, and probably the decisions of every other character in the show, has become not a decision of free will. Everything, at least up until Volume 9, has now been revealed to be fate. No character has made a choice based on their own will now. All because Jaune played with a fucking time fruit. The kiss was bad. It was really bad, but Jaune playing with the time fruit has possibly destroyed every decision and choice made in the show, and now the stakes of every decision has become"this decision and these consequences must happen or the timeline collapses" because Jaune must become the Rusted Knight. Since their is no original Rusted Knight besides Jaune, and Jaune must become the Rusted Knight to complete the time loop, if any decision that is made in the show by any character was not made, the time loop may break and the time line could collapse in the original time line, and all timelines after.

We seriously waited 2 fucking years, only to get an entire lackluster filler season.

“I love you, just the way you are.” The more I think back on the series, this whole show is pretty much about Ruby never truly needing to change and the writers projecting that belief of themselves onto her. That very line is a representation of that.

they already made a joke of yangs trauma by characterizing it with maybe 5% of what trauma is and then suddenly shes ok when adam is dead. Now ruby having her depression arc felt pretty good with her finally getting some characterization outside of happy-go-lucky leader. Now that gets thrown out the window and the resolution is so bland, we dont get anything meaningful behind her picking herself other then "well my mom likes me". It doesn't justify how much she fucked up and now she has the "you are SOO VALID" treatment it just enables her toxicity more so arguably she's come out a worse version of herself since she didn't critically solve her shortcomings nor take responsibility. Id say shes more of an antagonist in the series then ozpin ever was for similar reasons that ozpin was demonized.

I still don't understand why people thought there would be some meaningful change from ruby ascending. 😅

After watching all of Volume 9, I’ve realized that the only things you need to know going into Volume 10 are three things (Spoilers, if you give a crap) 1. Bumblebee is canon 2. Summer Rose’s last mission involved Raven Branwen in some way, though we don’t know the exact details in this Volume 3. The Brothers are the First Afterans Bumblebee being canon should have happened in Volume 7, maybe Volume 8 at the latest. The info about Summer Rose is literally just bait to get you watching next Volume and nothing more. The knowledge that the Brothers are Afterans is more to explain the origins of the Curious Cat and the Jabberwalker than anything else, because I don’t know how this info will be at all useful in the fight against Salem. In other words, Summer’s lie is the only thing you need to know going into Volume 10. Everything else in Volume 9 is completely filler

They shouldn't have framed it as a suicide since Ruby drinking the tea could have been the perfect time to gain an edge to help them defeat Salem. She's talking to the Tree, the entity that created the Brothers and the very universe that houses their world. It could have easily given her power enough to remove Salem's immortality, maybe even have it be tied to her silver eyes (remember that these are supposed to be important). That is the gift of her Ascension but I understand why they didn't. Too much glorifying of suicide as a means to become better already existed in both RWBY and Gen:Lock. Can't do it again with the """main character""".

Ruby got and cured her depression in the matter of 10 episodes. What antidepressants is she taking and how can I get a prescription?

I only really watched this volume via short clips of the most important parts. But when I saw the conclusion I instantly knew that the entire "break the cutie" trope they were seemly pressing on did little to nothing. Making the whole "make your character experience pain to become a new person" went down the drain. So what a surprise the writers continue to write a story that can't even hold itself up.

Yang: my Ptsd is magically cured. Just in time to come out of the closet. Ruby: my depression is magically cured. Just in time for the plot...or lack there of.

I've probably said this before but I'm gonna say it again: It drives me up the wall seeing the sheer amount of missed potential RWBY has passed up. Jaune doesn't get to keep his adult self, Ruby doesn't mature or gain any new skills, Bmblb was forced in for good, and the Ever After seems poised to just be a footnote that isn't going to be utilized in V10 and beyond (assuming there is more after 10). That makes me think the only reason V9 exists is for the fandom bait and to even out the total number of volumes so it doesn't look like they skimped on an arc (Vale got 3 volumes, Mistral got 3 volumes, and now they can say Atlas got 3 volumes). But unfortunately, I feel like V9 has only squandered valuable budget that should've been used for the Vacuo arc, which makes me assume that Vacuo will either get three mediocre volumes, or they're going to crush that entire arc and the show finale into V10 and destroy the pacing. And given RT's track record, I doubt anything that was learned in the Ever After is going to stick.

It's clear that the writers of this show WANT to cover heavy topics, but they just simply DON'T have the ability.

So much potential... wasted. Again.

all I needed was some kind of physical indication that this volume actually happened like a scar, a costume change, old Jaune or the team bringing back one of the afterans like little or juniper in order for me to not consider this filler but this was such a copout volume. This volume was especially irritating for me bcuz (at the start) it was really looking like the writers were finally committing to the concepts that they set up only for the ending to just anti all of it.

This was such a terrible volume. Both Ruby and Jaune were done so dirty. Both of them went through so much and for what? That lackluster ending? smhhhh And on top of that they made Bumblbee canon in this god forsaken volume. Literally why??? They should have saved that for the end of the series, as a big final pay off after everything was said and done. smh

Now we got another filler. Justice League X Rwby.

I'm not even mad at this season just disappointed after things looked like they were taking a turn for the better and getting my hopes up even though I knew that would be a mistake. Finally reached the point where I can't be mad at the show anymore as it's just not worth it. Before Volume 9 aired I would post on a few RWBY videos saying how this will be an important season as the way it was done will determine how RWBY will be till it's conclusion as this would be the volume to address the issues.

It was going moderately well until it wasn't, shouldn't have any expectations to begin with I know. But at least they gave us the "shut up Blake" thats enough for me. PD. Funny Ive never expect Rose to use a bigger axe than kratos.

The worst part is that this Volume was doing an OK job with having Ruby realize she messed-up; she recognized their plan was bad, she recognized she got people hurt, but instead of running with that they had her go "lol nope we all make mistakes!" LIKE miss girl, not EVERYONE decides to purposefully destroy an entire CONTINENT and lose two Relics in the process. That is not a simple "mistake" you can pick yourself up from. And this Volume did not acknowledge that. And now, just like reversing Jaune's age, we're just gonna completely ignore Ruby's depression, the fact she committed su*cide on-screen, lashed out at Yang which was never addressed again, and wanted to become someone else because she hated herself that much. It's a mess and FILLER. I hate it here 😭

Vex after seasons four and five how can you have any faith In these writers or this show. It’s been shit since Monty died honestly would have been better off canceling it after his passing .

Why did Jaune have to go back to his younger self? That was an everlasting scar for Ruby, something she had to live with, knowing the weight of her actions. Also Alyx was a freaking asshole, she poisoned Jaune, she lied to the cat. And she still had the audicity to say to him" yOu DiDNt sAVe mE" bruh stfu. Moreover, even after all those "lessons" about hunters being heroes and such, and Ruby failing time and time again to save someone. She could have gone right next to Neo and tell her something like: "You don't have to be alone anymore". Since that's kinda what heroes do. But NOPE can't have that on this show. Gotta develop her in the background, so she can come back and everyone get something to react on the vol 10 trailer. Bumblebee was also very awkward, you could have make an entire arc around it, the whole situation felt so forced and contrived. And last but not least, Jaune's depression arc was done miles better than Ruby's and he wasnt even the focus. Man Idk why I expected anything at this point, I'm just glad I binge watched it. Damn that was bad 3/10

I have nothing against the lgbt community nor the romantic relationship between blake and yang. But I have to say this: that relationship feels so forced. Forced in a way that they straight up take a *FAN* ship and make it canon.

She instantly got over her depression in basically a few minutes and her mom saying "ur cool and are just right the way u r" And has this supposedly badass moment which didn't convince me what so ever to take it seriously that and pretty much yikes and bland

The way that they play off the disasters that happened so far in the series is honestly bad. Pretty much the “lesson” from volume 9 is “welp destruction is just part of keeping balance in this world so y’all can still try to save people or whateva, just know it’s not entirely your fault, as long as you’re trying your very best! 👍🏼” 💀

They didn't even mention the sadness Ruby was feeling back in Volume 1. They should've brought up an illusion of Summer to tell Ruby that she's still a hero becasue she's trying

I agree. I did, in fact, expect a change. I thought it'd be really interesting and challenging for them to somehow change Ruby. And I was very disappointed though not surprised in the end. The way I interpreted it was as such: The forge was meta commentary about the show, where the characters are more known for their weapons and semblances than their character traits. Looking at Team RWBY, Blake is about the least interesting kit-wise, to the point where the STRAP of her weapon is more important than her weapon, and her semblance only seemed interesting once it was laced with dust. Yang's semblance is directly tied to her character, and her weapon is virtually invisible as what you see is the punches, not the low-profile weapon empowering those punches. Weiss is balancing between semblance and dust, in a graceful dance, where her weapon is just a vessel for dust. There's also the characters themselves, where Blake is this supposedly persecuted activist with a dark past, turning a new page, Yang "dealt" with her arm loss (writing this I remembered she didn't really, she was just kinda bummed, then accepted it within the same episode) and she's kinda motherly within the group, and Weiss has her family looming over her everything as she rebelled and escaped (which I now remembered was basically leaving through the front door). Ruby? She's her scythe, and the trope of the leader with inspirational speeches. Her semblance is an underused utility that you forget exists by the time it's used again. She has grey eyes when convenient. Could the showmakers see that their main character is a trope with little to offer beyond her weapon? Will they be altering her somehow, in either design or weapon choice? How would they go about continuing a show where the main character was changed drastically? The answers were maybe, no and they wouldn't. They chickened out. The entire identity crisis went unresolved. There's still a discrepancy between Ruby's childhood version of being a huntsman and what it actually is. She's still facing an impossible foe. Nothing changed. Literally.

Nice alternate take, Man. That was 100% better than what actually happened. Respect for an off the cuff outline.

In response to the flashback: We've all reached the age where we come to realize that our parents were imperfect fuck-ups in some form or another. I'm more curious how Ruby will approach or confront Raven if they ever see her again for answers.

Some of the arguments mention that "Ruby shouldn't be like her mom bc it doesn't fit" although it may bring up an interesting aspect about Ruby since she saw Summer Rose as a hero of sorts where it could inspire her to act like her and reflect on her previous actions via Atlus downfall but this is just wishful thinking and I know some fans wouldn't like that

Oh my goodness 😱. This video really made me notice some filler vibes. The buildup of Ruby's narrative was really strong and relatable, but its conclusion felt quite inconsequential, as if episodes 7 and 8 have never happened.

In my opinion, She could have had a "Vigilante Deku" Arc and resented her former teamates for not caring for her, especially Yang.

Guess this volume progressed in the ONLY way the writers wanted it for in the first place... Yang kissing Blake.

How about RWBY focuses on characters that are actually in the show instead of wasting air talking about Summer Rose and the stupid brothers?

I think that there should've been one full episode of Summer and Raven doing whatever their mission was mixed with some moments where Summer had made mistakes of her own with Team STRQ as a whole. Their team being so close to Ozpin and his secrets, there could have been moments where they, especially her had to make tough choices that would decide the fate of the world; something to parallel with Ruby's choices and let her know that not all things work out as planned. That would even help strengthen the idea that "Super Mom" Summer Rose has faults of her own; show her mom struggling with whatever she's dealt with, but show that she's talked with her team and they're helping her get through it. And if not a direct conversation with Summer and Ruby, Summer could've talked openly to assure her daughter that its okay to be herself and make mistakes, given the thought that Ozpin may have told her that the fairytales all have their truths and merit, so when Ruby saw that vision of her mother, Summer's speech could've played for her (since I don't think she had time to record herself, unless Taiyang pulls up an old "Do Not Open Yet" box and somehow gets it to his daughter).

You know it’s bad when you’ve watched every episode of RWBY and the highlight of the one *decently* written volume since like V3 is Robbie Daymond voicing a character and the blacksmith giving us some decent lore about how the tree relates to the two brothers. That’s it. That was the highlight of the entire volume. Edit: also someone else had pointed out earlier that the writer’s said somewhere in an earlier chapter that it wasn’t Summer Rose reading Ruby those stories, it was Yang. If that’s the case then CRWBY got EXTREMELY lazy with this whole Summer Rose reveal.
