I had a headcanon that Scarlet's semblance was the ability to move his shadow independently and pull himself to it, but gliding also makes a lot of sense.

Neptune is actually very underated with his semblance and the fact that his weapon can create electricity. That combination is very good especially in dealing high damage to multiple enemies

Neptune's Semblance honestly sounds pretty busted. Just imagine. If this dude actually has Water Dust on hand, he would be a living weapon. Ice Dust to freeze the water for even added versatility. His Electric Dust within his weapon for conduction etc. Neptune's semblance is crazy good on its own but with those dusts, it's pretty deadly. .....Especially if he was to team up with Weiss.

I still believe Ruby's semblence is crazy op due to her being able to manifest herself intangible in the form of roses. It's fast for both attack as well as retreat, she can carry people with her with no reduction to her speed, and she can split into multiple parts making her even more difficult to take on. It's really creative and omnipotent when used well. Love every semblence though, they are all amazing

My theory about Neptune is he had a drowning accident when he was very young, which lead him to discover his semblance. Like maybe just 2 years old. That would explain his fear of water

Gill I found particularly interesting in the ramifications of a aura and a semblance being able to manifest even before birth. It gave me the feeling that maybe Gill was underdeveloped or even on the verge of being stillborn and her semblance triggered of an instinctive desire to survive by drawing in aura from her mother and her brother as a result. Taking her Mother's life and creating this incredibly unique situation of someone not even having aura yet having a semblance. Makes me wonder if the reason Gill is so strong is because she is sort of like Penny. She stole part of Jax very soul and it's why she has so much aura. Jax meanwhile can only use his semblance when Gill is basically giving him back his aura to power it. His mind control semblance gave me a different vibe. When he imprints his aura signature over someone. It makes it so their own aura keeps the mind control active. Hence why it can stay active that long and supplemented by extra aura from Gillian.

Not really surprising that Neptune’s semblance has to do with water: I mean he is named after the roman god of the sea and carries a trident. As far as with Jax & Gill unless they had stipulations like her’s can only work with skin to skin contact and once his hold is broken a person can’t be brainwashed again they run the risk of those characters being completely broken.

I have a fan character with a semblance sort of like Jupiter. Vaporizes water within a radius when activated and turns it into a fog/mist cloud surrounding him at the moment of activation.

Personally, I feel like a Silver Eyed Warrior would have been a perfect Medusa character. After all, Silver Eyes do have the power to turn Grimm into stone. I actually made an OC myself based on that. She’s a half human half snake Faunus third year student who can shed her skin especially when in danger and she hides her silver eyes with colored contacts because she along with her family are fearful of people coming to kill them, take their eyes or force them into their ranks. I named her Reagan Sarpedon.

I am SO happy that Neptune’s semblance is the way it is. My own oc’s semblance was essentially water manipulation (although its more along the lines of shaping weapons into water, but he can also manipulate shapeless water like how someone in Avatar could, but with MUCH less control.) I’m happy my semblance will no longer be referred to as “Too close to magic.”

Awesome. New semblances are always a plus. I was actually considering doing a time semblance for one of my Oc's mixed with sort of teleportation that they develop to counter balance using the time aspect of their semblance

My OC Jade Sparrow (themed after captain Jack Sparrow) has Good Fortune as her semblance but it's in the context that she is actually able to control others' luck. Her luck is often effected in reverse when her semblance is in use but when she's not fighting it varies on effecting her own luck. Sometimes she'll be lucky and other times she's unlucky. This is because her good fortune effects her very minimally. It's reflective of how a pirate is both a blessing and a curse

Wait, they gave a character based on Rumpelstiltskin the ability to permanently turn anything they touch into gold? ... Wouldn’t that have worked better for a character who is based on King Midas?

Finally,Team SSSN is my Favorite Team but I wish that we would see what Sage's Semblance could be. Also,I have an OC that has an Intangible Semblance called Phantom.

My character can create regular weapons out of thin air, having a quite diverse arsenal and a multitude of different fighting styles at his disposal. After seeing brand new official semblances like turning objects into gold permanently, draining other people's aura and powering up someone else with it, and literal mind control and intangibility, mine doesn't seem so ridiculous now.

I have an OC with a semblance which is kinda similair to Green's. My character can absorb smoke around him and eject it outwards when needed. Can be used to form clouds of smoke to hide himself or to choke out people, like Green.

I made a team called HMNY (harmony) led by Harper oak, the other members are: myria sky, Nico dark and Yin dark. The team name and character names are not final as shown by the non Colour team name I posted a thing about harper on a previous video but basically myria is a bird Faunus with blue feathered wings and yin is a dog Faunus (yin is a girl) nico is not a Faunus but is yin’s brother their dad was not a Faunus and their mom was a bird Faunus too. Their parents got arrived in secret as many did not accept a Faunus and a human being married, their semblances are: Harper has levetation, myria has greatly enhanced sense in an are around her, nico can create things by writing in a book (they can be living beings) and yin can use portals. Their weapons are: Harper has a spear that becomes a gun or a dagger it is also able to use fire and lightning dust , myria has a bow that uses ice and wind dust and can become a staff. Nico has a dagger as a secondary but he mainly fights by using his semblence to create monsters or other weapons. Yin has dual sickles ( mini scythes basically) with gravity dust. I might post a backstory on an edit to this comment at some point. NOTE, THESE ARE NOT FINAL I REPEAT NOT FINAL.

Aha! Intangiblility is a semblance! I knew it! Although my oc had the semblance of density, it worked similarly. Although it turned out to be a very dangerous semblance for the user and she lost her human ears to it when she clipped herself in a wall

I like the idea of people having lame semblances kinda like my hero quirks so someone has a semblance like "my nails can grow really long"

Neptune's semblance might open up the door for some sweet aura-related abilities if my headcanon is correct. And, given some canon evidence, at least one part of it is correct. More on that later. Basically, my headcanon states that people aren't really good at holding aura, meaning that their aura constantly radiates off into the world to establish equilibrium. It moves from high concentrations, like huntsmen, to low concentrations, like the air, the ground, plants, water, etc. This, in turn, creates an aura field around the planet, also known as Ambient Aura. Extra-sensory abilities sense the disruptions of this aura field to give the user a better view of their surroundings, and with enough training, it is possible to sense the past disruptions of this field, using an ability called Astral Tracing. It essentially lets the user re-live the past, albeit in a somewhat warped manner, and the more you go back the less accurate it becomes. As for my headcanon being partly correct, here's something about dust: Basically, according to my headcanon, dust is crystallized aura that has merged with natural forces, such as heat. At first I was kinda skeptical of this myself, and worried we'd get a canon explanation of where dust comes from that would throw this theory over board, but then we got Lake Matsu. The rocks floating above it are said to do so because of the gravity-dust growing in them. According to everything we know about dust, if the crystals were what kept the rocks afloat, they'd shrink, not grow, due to being used up. However, if my theory is correct, the crystals would be a mixture of gravitons and Ambient Aura, meaning that they reduce the gravity in the area where they grow. And we see that exact thing happening in the show. The dust grows, and gravity is reduced in the area, allowing the rocks to float. Neptune's aura has an affinity for water, due to his semblance. His entire family, actually, but let's focus on Neptune. Because of his aura's affinity for water, he would have an advantage over other humans in learning certain abilities. Fish-based faunus can use their instincts to help them learn these abilities, and are actually the only kind of faunus that can learn these abilities, but humans normally don't have any affinity for any element, so they're left without advantages. Well, they can learn all sorts of abilities, whereas faunus are locked into a select few, and most don't even know they can do it, let alone get the training to unlock these abilities. One of my OCs, a stonefish faunus named Sirena Blue, can use her aura to change how she interacts with the ambient aura in the water around her. She can change her water friction, effectively giving her full control over her movements in water, filter oxygen from the water around her, basically breathing under water, sense vibrations in the water, essentially a spider-sense that's limited to everything under water, and even absorb ambient aura from the water she's in. For that last thing, she needs her own aura to be active, so if she's completely out of aura she can't do it, but when she fights, she constantly does this to keep her aura at 100% no matter how hard she's hit. Neptune could learn all these abilities, too. He could single-handedly hold up an Atlesian Airship by increasing his water friction to the maximum if he was fully submerged, and they could drop tons of stuff onto it without him moving. He could swim fast enough to dodge anything slower than lasers, even if he didn't see it with his eyes. To give you some example of what Neptune would be capable of, Sirena once stood in the barrel of the Colossus' arm canon while it was under water. She was in the thing, and the instant it fired, she got out of there and appeared in front of the cockpit, moving so fast that it appeared as though she was teleporting. Now, this may seem broken, and it kinda is, but most of the world's population could learn these abilities if they worked hard enough, so I don't think it's overpowered. Also, it comes with some downsides for Sirena, which Neptune wouldn't have to worry about. Sirena's aura has become a pretty good conductor for electricity, meaning that instead of blocking damage from electric attacks, her aura repairs the damage afterwards, which takes more energy than to block it. In short, she's extremely weak against electric attacks. In my fic, Blake managed to completely deplete her aura with one lightning-dust infused clone.

I wonder if there is a time semblance, there is I'm sure but this certain semblance that I'm talking about is time manipulation but it's a broken semblance the individual can pause time, forward it and rewind it and he can rewind a person to the time they were a baby or to the age of 80 they could use this to devastating effect on the battle field they could pause time and kill every one or like the events at the fall of beacon they could rewind time and warn everyone about what happens

Lag is similar to one I created once when i was screwing around. The semblance i made was called Eternity and it was able to either speed up or slow down someone's perception of time including their perception of pain and stuff like that. My character could essentially make a single pinprick last for what seems like forever. As for the sticky semblance, i played around with Friction Manipulation before but a sticky one is very interesting.

I think Jax’s semblance is balanced by two things: touch and aura cost. It’s shown in the book (I didn’t read it but I did watch your video) that he makes contact with the people he brainwashes and their aura gets overtaken by his. What if when he makes contact with those people he’s seeping his aura into theirs? That would explain why Fox saw everyone in the building having similar auras. Jax put his aura into them to control them. The only reason he can keep control over so many people is because of Gill. She’s supplying him with the aura to counteract the cost it would have on him. Gill can store a crazy amount as we’ve seen and it seems her semblance relies on contact as well.

Definitely the best thing with new semblances is what they’re capable of. Neptune’s is actually really note wirth because we have really seen a manipulation type semblance yet. Im definitely the most excited about gill’s Aura Siphon since my oc Sanguine has (aura) Parasitism.

The Sticking semblance is pretty similar to a power called Lashing. It's a power from the Stormlight Archives that lets its users attract, repel and stick objects together. The first time we see Lashing used it's used by an assassin that kills a king, mows through an entire legion of guards by sticking the guards to each other, the ceiling, the walls, repelling their attacks ecetera. Anything Sticky is absolutely BAMF if you use it creatively

Glad to see intangibility is acceptable in the realm of semblances. I had to mostly rely on Ruby's as a justification, but thanks to this book a lot of ideas won't be as shot down (of course there is the downside of a few people feeling more confident in more broken abilities, so...).

With Neptune’s semblance he could be able to make water circuits around his enemies and use his electro trident to shock them into submission, it’s an awesome ability if it wasn’t for its user 😅

Any of these semblences, including the sticky one, can be incredibly strong. Its not the semblence that makes it strong, its how the user uses it. Gill could very much have not used her semblence much and didnt know the capabilities of her semblence had she went another route, made another choice. Same goes for neptune- his semblence is strong inherently, yes, but he never uses it. He actively evades water, going all the way to run past the enemy in the vital festival and climb up a hill to get as far as he can from the water. In anothwr person's hands it can be used like water bending (and they'd probably have a super soaker as a weapon) and it could be extremely deadly (see: katara breaking out of a wooden prison with her sweat) in the wrong hands.

Its interesting that semblance that break reality is still a thing but something weird in the book when they say grimm attract to high aura level which kinda weird and people talk about this a lot and the things about ren semblance and the grimm didn't follow the train when ren hide the emotions of people with jaune boosting which also maybe ren semblance don't just hide emotions maybe can hide aura idk its just a theory it could be true if jaune was alone in one of v8 eps and a lot of grimm attack jaune more than the others

I have a character that can make illusion realtities (making people see what he wants, different people seeing different things (some seeing reality), and can make illusory sounds as well). And uses it commonly to confuse enemies as to what his semblance is. He will make them think it is teleportation by making an illusion of him in one place, make it so they don't hear his steps and hear him talking from his illusion, then dropping the illusion and hitting them. His weapon is a simple strait cane with a sword hidden inside that detaches with the handle, he then attacks with the blade and the rest of the cane

Has anyone written anything about ball sports in the rwby-verse? I have been kicking around this idea for an original character for a while now, but I am struggling with forming a good vehicle with which to exemplify the character's semblance. Or any sports in general for that matter, aside from events such as the vital festival.

My first one actually has something SIMILAR to Gill's, except it's more along the lines of Aura TAP, not SIPHON, in that damage he deals chips away Aura and adds it to his own, which also gives him information on said Aura from the person. This aspect isn't limited to ATTACKS, but physical contact, but the Aura Tap only draws in some amount according to the damage inflicted. The Intangibility is also something along the lines that I have for another, but it's more along the lines of being able to pass through stationary objects like walls or trees or anything else that is completely unmoving. Also, I have to agree, Jax's Semblance sounds VERY broken, and the Golden Touch Semblance, I also agree, is indeed baffling with the fact that it has a PERMANENT effect on materials when some of the ones I've some up with involve TEMPORARY manifestations or alterations...

Argenta's semblance sounds like one of my oc's who's semblance name is reflexes where his reflexes and eyesight are enhanced to the point were time slows down for him though in his case he's able to dodge and maneuver around opponents more easily.

I figured we'd see a semblance like Jupiter's eventually. I'm actually working on a story right now where one of my OC's has a semblance called Flux that lets her change matter between solid, liquid, and gas states. The more fixed something is in that state however the more draining it is on her aura so water is one of the most common things she uses.

Umber’s literally just one of my OCs in a nutshell. Though, my OC is a snake faunus that’s a Silver Eyed Warrior and due to these mixing, this added an unstable semblance of the petrifying Silver Eyes working with the petrification semblance, essentially being nicknamed “Medusa” and wears a Taijitu Grimm mask. Using silver eyes against Grimm, and eye contact against more human/faunus targets.

is kinda helped a bit for when I think of making semblances because I tend to not make overpowered abilities unless it is limited useability and sometimes when making abilities overpowered i think to myself there are so many overpowered abilities (cough my hero academia cough). also, I didn't think they would create a semblance based on Midas' golden touch ability from Greek myth. and I realized after the talk about Jax's semblance that Yatsuhashi's semblance is a form of mind control because he can make people forget certain things.

My OC’s character is “Iridescence”. I can create Aurora lights and I can carve out pieces of them to turn them into solid light constructs The auroras can even be combined with dust so that they turn into whatever element the dust is. My OC is named Aurora Briar, inspired by Sleeping Beauty

I was really excited about Professor Rumpole's essentially Midas touch and literal atom manipulation, because it confirmed the validity of the semblance for my team leader Jasper Glass, who can weaken the structural integrity of objects once he touches them. I had to be careful in developing it to make sure it couldn't turn into full on matter manipulation, but if he can weaken atomic structure similar to how Rumpole can change atomic identity, it makes a lot more sense. It would be useful in dealing extra damage to Grimm or breaking opponents weapons but later on down the track it might be able to evolve into something like self-preservation by softening impacts if he's thrown against a wall or something. I'm still trying to come up with a good name for it. "Shatterpoint", "Glassfinger" (based on his last name), or simply "Brittle" are what I've come up with so far.

Wow, two (intangibility & aura siphon) of my OC’s symbolizes become real. That is mildly terrifying. I was making a team base off of monsters (wendingo, kitusune, vampire and ghost.) and well the vampire and ghost symbolize just got proven not only possible but cannon o.o

I am still waiting for a Semblances which cancels Semblances...like Leech from X-men only instead of canceling the X-gene this Semblance cancels Semblances. That would throw a lot of people for a loop in battle.

This reminds me of the semblance I gave my oc long story short their semblance allows them to forcefully absorb the life force of creatures including grimm and take on the physical traits of said opponent this can include a grimm's own natural abilities an example i can think of is draining a beowolf hes weakened and gaining its claws and natural armor or taking and using the immunity the apathy have to their own power.

I actually made a character with the same semblance of Rumple, his name is Thomas Zlata and his based on King Midas, named Alchemy, anything he touches he turns to gold, the main difrerence is that Zlata's is temporal and gives a power boost (Somewhat like Coco's). Zlata is also a teacher FYI.

And here I am thinking an OC with the ability to create and control fire would be OP

Sage ayanas power/semblence story (from fandom) : While fighting a giant Nevermore, he displays the ability to propel himself high into the air with a green shockwave that spreads from where he jumps. With assistance from Yatsuhashi Daichi, he cuts through the Grimm's neck in one blow.

I had an idea for an OC with a semblance i was calling aura vampirism. He could turn his semblance on to a target as long as he maintains line of sight to the target and begin slowly leeching their aura very subtlety and adding it to his own. If he ever actually manages to make skin contact with his hand though, he would start draining it very rapidly. His weapon would be a retractable blade that fit inside a gauntlet on his right arm that also housed a chain connected to the pummel of the blade that he could then throw the blade for ranged attacks and retract the chain via a mechanism within the gauntlet. Think assassins creed hidden blade mixed with god of war blades of chaos, only it would be a double edged straight sword and he would wield it with a bit of finesse. I've thought about him having a folding buckler on his left arm as well so that he can use it to block attacks when he needs to but would otherwise fold out of the way to give him more control over his chain and let him grab people. His goal in combat would be to wrap up his opponent in the chain and lay a hand on them to drain their aura and very quickly end the fight. Character like this would make an amazing villain, but i was planing on him being more of a good guy with a bit of a chip on his shoulder, kinda like Qrow. He wants to be a huntsman and fight grim, but his semblance is only really effective against other huntsman and huntresses since grim don't have aura. This fact actually gives him a disadvantage in his occupation of choice. Interesting that RWBY now has something similar in cannon.

Wow I really want to see Neptune use his semblance. I hope he gets and mini-arc where he gets gets over his phobia and masters his semblance. Neptune is easily one of my favorite side characters and I always wished he got more screen time but hopefully he will in the future. I'm also super curious to the limits of his semblance and how well he'd be able to control it as well as how much water he could manipulate at a time. Like do you think he could be like Katara from ATLA and use it as water whips or create big waves to douse his enemies? Maybe combine his semblance with dust like ice dust to freeze his opponents after hitting them with water, kinda like Katara would do?

First: thank you. I was unaware that this book was released so thank you. I just went out and bought my copy However I think you are confused about Scarlett semblance. I though it was air maneuverability, not gliding. That he was able to be more 'graceful' in the air. It may increase how he could move while IN the air but that is it. That is not much of a semblance in terms of overall combat use. Jax and Gillian's semblances are not quite razing the power level of the series. I am of the opinion that Yang, Tyrian and (old man from after the fall that can block semblance with concentration) have set the bar very high. The twins are powerful and unique, but not unprecedented. A lot of semblances can be made just by looking up psychic abilities. Levitation or Psychometry are easy to make and could also be highly useful. Levitation + some form of propellant = flight. Psychometry or object reading for a detective or investigator. Astral Project for scouting. And my final bit on Lily. It is only stated to stick small things together. I admit to not seeing hunter x hunter but in what little description we have, it was only things like cards. No talk about aura projects. After all, none of the main cast can project aura. So if one has to walk up to something small, touch it and then touch the place it sticks to, that isn't overly useful. Yes one can attack a grenade or small bomb to the surface like what Yang does to defeat Vine, but she didn't need any semblance for that.
