I like the detail of the clover vs qrow and tyrian fight is that qrow never actively helps tyrian while tyrian constantly helps qrow in ways that messes with qrow like the tail spin and tail push.

Well... the shippers were right: Qrow's weapon did end up penetrating Clover... just not the weapon they were hoping.

Ruby telling Harriet, You were; then you trained us.” Is one of my absolute favorite lines in the series. That fight is also one of my favorite fights too, plus Casie’s song in the background sums it up perfectly. Team RWBY didn’t want to fight but if it’s a choice between not fighting or saving innocents. They’re saving innocents every time. Neo is my girl and I love her. Ever notice that Cinder looses or fights to a draw in every single fight where she’s evenly matched?

I remember watching Tyrian run up to the fight for the first time and thinking "Oh! Team up!" and then after "Or a 3 way I guess" and later after that "This is not the team up I was thinking of!"

Just before clover died he got his aura depleted, ergo, no more good luck, then boom staby staby

I love how Clover's death was because of his own actions, and how those actions stem from his blind faith in Ironwood. Clover has _everything_ going for him; he's a tall, handsome dude with a high-ranking military position and a Semblance that _literally_ lets him coast on good luck. The system _works_ for him! Following Ironwood's orders has never resulted in anything but success for him, so why would he ever question them? And so, because he never thought to question authority, because he's never faced any sort of adversity from the system, he obeys it without question, even when the choice is between following orders and stopping a loose serial killer - and that's what gets him killed.

The biggest rage....clover dying by qrow's weapon because of Tyrian and situation

Feels poetic, the droid telling the human to be more human.

Clover was relying on his luck, which was being negated, so he focused Qrow to disable his semblence for high odds of victory against both opponents. Qrow tried to take down Tyrion first, but Clover was always in the way, so Qrow focused Clover instead, while Tyrion was using this to his advantage. In the end, Clover's aura got depleted, and Qrow's semblence brought misfortune.

Just starting the video praying; “Please understand the Qrow fight”. It’s under-written but it makes sense. People also don’t like Neo taking her first (second?) hit from Oscar of all people. He’s running and yelling at her from 20ft away and she just takes it. I prefer to just assume she spent too long deciding whether to drop the disguise or not. EDIT AFTER WATCHING: Okay good, you guys seem to get it, or at least not let it ruin the episode. A lot of different reads on it but basically yeah, Clover’s semblance made him confident he could just take them both on. It also compromised Qrow’s ability to fight, so Qrow had to take out Clover’s Aura first.

Fun Facts Fact 1: The episode title refers to the expression of "With friends like these who needs enemies?", referring to friends who are so unreliable that they are more like enemies like the Ace Ops in the episode itself. It also shares the name with another episode from another Rooster Teeth series, Camp Camp. Fact 2: The scene of Oscar attacking Neo was miscommunicated with the animation team. Originally, Oscar was meant to attack Neo immediately after rounding the corner, however in the final episode he runs up to Neo for several seconds heavily telegraphing his attack while Neo does nothing to attempt to dodge or counter this. Fact 3: In one of the earlier episode drafts, at the end of their fight, Elm Ederne would comment about how her lessons stuck with Yang, to which Yang thanks Elm before knocking her out, showing both sides still somewhat respect each other despite everything that's happened. Fact 4: In part, the Ace-Ops' defeat is partially due to their lack of having a "cheat code" in the form of Clover's Semblance. Fact 5: Kerry Shawcross learned from Volume 5 that having everyone in one room for a fight doesn't work well, thus Team RWBY and the Ace-Ops fight in both Ironwood's office and the hallways outside of it. Fact 6: The writers wanted to have a false sense of resolution in Gravity just to blow everything up during this episode. Fact 7: This episode was originally going to be a little longer, but the writers decided that they had to trim down the length. Fact 8: Cinder was always going to lay waste to the medical facility and attack Winter. Fact 9: The writers wanted to do a reprisal for a Qrow vs Tyrian fight.

I'm glad SOMEONE finally understands what happened between Qrow and Tyrian. I don't understand why so many people are complete idiots and can't understand that Clover kept getting in the way EVERY SINGLE TIME Qrow tried to attack Tyrian. And Qrow didn't "team up" with Tyrian, he just stopped attacking him to focus on Clover because Clover wouldn't let him go after Tyrian.

Honestly I kind of blame Robyn for that whole mess starting. Qrow might actually of convinced Clover to drop off the insane psychopath, then talk to James, but Robyn forced Qrow's hand.

8:00 that face down between Clover and Qrow really felt like a Mortal Combat intro…with the fighters spitting lines right before.

Five years and this episode still brings me pain. It seems Cinder's Grimm arm is able to absorb the maiden powers. Whether or not Cinder's body is able to handle that much power is up in the air but she's dead set on trying.

With Tyrian, Clover, Qrow, I agree with Bethany. Once Tyrian was loose, Qrow went after Tyrian, while Clover went after Qrow. So the decision to not make Tyrian the first priority was Clover's. Qrow's joining the attacks against Clover who was actively attacking him while Tyrian was not, was a logical consequence. It's just such a great microcosm of how Salem works.

The whole Qrow/Clover/Tyrian fight is kinda stupid. For the majority of the fight, Qrow was trying to focus on Tyrian once he entered the fight while Clover kept trying to arrest Qrow. Qrow wanted to take out Tyrian but Clover wouldn't let him. Ultimately, Qrow had no choice but to focus on Clover instead of Tyrian because it would have been the only way he would have had the best shot for stopping Tyrian.

15:30 A lot of people forget that Qrow is more than just the "Drunken grumpy uncle". His twin sister is Raven, and his niece is Yang. His family is notorious for being dangerous in close combat. Also, wayyyy back in S4, Tyrian learned the hard way just how strong Qrow was when you separate him from his scythe, and that Qrow was more than happy to throw powerful fists. Clover took a few hits from Tyrian and Qrow, and Tyrian was trying to rip a gap in Clover's aura to sting him with no success, so gleefully allowing the hook to pass him by to snatch Qrow's weapon meant that Qrow would have to drop those deadly hands on Clover, and destroy his aura. Tyrian is insane, but he is far from dumb.

My favorite moment in this epsidoe is when Vine gets taken out by Blake and Yang. For some reason, the music kicking in wirh everyone on both sides taking a moment to just be like, "Oh..." gives me chills lol

The worst part about hte threeway fight with qrow tyrian and clover is that you can see clover being hyperfocused on his latest order which is detain qrow and qrow tries to fight tyrian but clover actively stops him multiple times. So tyrian did it smart and teamed up with qrow while qrow was at disadvantage

A little fun cross-reference for me, the song during the Ace-Ops fight, War ... I play that song on loop whenever I'm doing a certain map/story in the game Guild Wars 2 ... there's a part where there's a civil war between a race of cat-folk called Charr, and as my main Character is that race, War's lyrics fit the whole thing to a tee.

I shipped Qrow and Clover. I shipped them because Qrow finally, FINALLY found someone, ANYONE he was compatible with. He'd been alone for so long he'd lost hope of loving someone who his semblance wouldn't hurt. And here comes the perfect person. And very soon after he realizes he's in love, Clover is killed with Qrow's own sword. 17:30 that is why this cry is so painful.

Qrow siding with Tyrian was the definition of you make a deal with the devil and you'll get burned but you cant blame him since the other option was fighting his mirror match while having the devil clawing on his back the whole time i wouldn't take that fight if it was me im sure most would take the devil up on his offer in that scenario

hearing your conversation at the end of the episode is understandable but also funny. We all were arguing about this when the episode released.

The only reason why team RWBY won against the ace ops was because Marrow had doubts about the situation, otherwise he could just paralized Weiss, Yang and Blake with him semblance and then the fight could become a 4 v 1 against Ruby.

Ozpin spit his magic into 4 and gave it to the four maidens, Salem hasnt given away any of her magic and was able to beat prime ozma. This gives you an idea of how powerful salems magic is. Salems more powerful than the 4 maidens put together. And yes cinder is able to get more maiden powers, but the question is, can she handle it ???

I always love thebsong cut in with the first ace op down. The flow of battle shifted and it was so good

I think Clover had to go for Qrow first because he negates his biggest advantage which is his semblance

I don’t know if maidens can inherit the powers of other maidens… That said, Cinder has special Grimm powers or whatever… That’s what she was originally doing to the previous fall maiden… Using some sort of Grimm bug thing in the form of a glove or whatever… It’s how she was hurt by Ruby’s silver eyes… Something like that anyway… Either way, she has a way to siphon aura or magic from people… So even if it couldn’t naturally go to her by normal rules, it seems Cinder could potentially still take it.

In my Humble opinion. Robyn was to blame for escalating the entire situation.

Qrow only really went after Tyrian once he was in the fight and basically stopped even looking at Clover, just defending from him as needed. Even when Tyrian suggests to Qrow that they deal with Clover first, Qrow goes for Tyrian again but Clover interferes. Only then does Qrow actively attack Clover.

Team RWBY VS the ACE- ops: BEST FIGHT IN THE SERIES! UNDISPUTED! The way it shows the teamwork, ingenuity and on the spot quick thinking really gets my adrennaline pumping and is just... urghh so good

Two things l don’t think I’ll ever truly get over is Marrow not using his semblance from the jump, and Qrow not flying away instead of having a fight to begin with. From a story angle, I get things have to move along but I feel like it makes certain characters and moments not as impressive as intended.

From my perspective Qrow was focusing on Tyrian and just defending against Clover, but then Clover started to get in the way of his attacks against Tyrian. Knowing how dangerous Tyrian is, the last thing Qrow needed was someone making things harder for him, Clover wasn't listening so there wasn't really a possibility of those two working together at that point.

To be honest, when I first saw Yang throw Vine to the ground. I thought her throw was similar to Vegito's throw: the way he throws Super Buu to the ground and then uses Spirit Sword.

I real feel like all this dumb controversy with the Qrow/Tyrian/Clover fight could have been resolved with just one line of "Clover, knock it off!" or something to that effect from Qrow.

If Robin hadn’t been so hot headed she wouldn’t have gotten in the way of Qrow talking to Clover then Qrow could have agreed to be taken into custody only after they secured Tyrian in a cell. Then Qrow and Clover could try to discuss things with Ironwood. But the woman couldn’t hold back her anger at the Arrest order and Martial law orders. In conclusion it’s the woman’s fault Clover died being stupid.

There so many characters in RWBY that it feels luke they're only there to have more fights and extend the run time.

All I can say is that this chapter set the vibe and stage for next week. It's so damn sad that Clover let his luck ride instead of thinking for himself. It was his undoing.... And the AceOps showed their weakness without Clover. Their defeat was certain. Now, Penny & Winter must deal with the ever dangerous Cinder & JNR try to stop Neo?!? Plus, where's Gen. There's so much that went wrong, and that's why people die and get hurt. It is in these terrible circumstances that people show their true self, and the finale Fear OST highlights this. Although I do think in the end, Clover didn't show his true face, he was too good at his job to be himself.

Ace-Ops kinda embody the "Good soldiers follow orders" mentality. Atlas academy being part of the Atlas military, they get the training and conditioning to follow a superior officers orders over the independence Huntresses and Huntsmen of the other academies have. I think we can infer they (mostly, allowances made for Marrow at least) haven't gotten orders that conflict with their personal judgement before and don't know how to reconcile that, leaving them impaired (certainly Clover is, just not to the emotional degree that Qrow is during their fight)

Nah crow was trying to fight tyrian but clover kept attacking crow so crow started attacking him back. Tyrian basically used the exact plan to fight clover that they should have used against him. Clover made a bad choice

I think you're both right on the Qrow/Clover situation, not a single party is without fault. Personally i just have a problem with the execution of the fight scene overall, i think they easily could have achieved the same outcome without having ANY of the characters start inexplicably acting like morons

Winter actually did very well against cinder , what hindered her was she can’t fly . Only on her semblance but they are not very reliable

You guys are so great, you get it. I basically never watch reactions post Volume 6, it hurts too much. I watch these... I doubt I'll watch the Volume 8, because that's where it REALLY hurts me. But I'm wondering if you guys will have the same feelings I do.

and the tragedy of qrow continues, losing the one friend he had, where he didn't need to be afraid his semblance would hurt him

This episode was where I got fed up of RWBY, everyone just suddenly got really stupid and paranoid, to the point of letting a murderous psycho like Tyrian do whatever the hell he wanted and get away. All 3 of them on that plane are idiots and I hated how the writing made everyone lose their minds.

Love your reactions and discussions! I'm curious if after RWBY you have any plans to watch some other RoosterTeeth stuff like Red vs Blue, Camp Camp, Nomad of Nowhere, I think you'll enjoy them all on some level though the last two are more straight forward and RvB is a fair big commitment and it takes a while to hit it's truly good stride past just being mostly comedy before turning into a real cool epic story.

Qrow was in a tough spot because if he didn't ally with Tyrian then he'd be fighting two vs one and been easily beaten and he might've been the one in Clover's position while of course we saw what happens when he allies with Tyrian. The whole problem was Clover. If he hadn't fought Qrow and fought Tyrian instead everything would have worked out.

Btw only Harriet talked trash to team RWBY. And one thing about whole situation with Ace Ops. I don`t hate Clover and the Ace Ops because they are soldiers, they trained to follow orders, it`s very clear and understandable why they do it. Soldiers willing sacrifice everything for victory, even innocent people, this how it works. I`m very sad about whole thing with Ace Ops I very like all of them. I don`t blame them, they just doing their job that`s all.

Lawful good characters that choose law over goodness are always the most moronic and annoying characters. But it's always interesting to put them in them that kind of situation where they have to choose between the halves of their moral alignments.

This Season was fire rwby it's Still one of the best shows I ever seen

It was an avoidable fight but that phone call from ruby is what triggered everything. Wouldnt have happened there otherwise. Robin provoked the fight but her reaction is understandable given whats happened with her and her crew and what shes been fighting for. Then to receive on speaker for all to hear the news of ironwoods betrayal, of course she'd react like that. Still dumb but i get it. Clover with his good luck and orders prioritizing qrow and probably believing tyrian was secure. Then once tyrian was free shouldve gone for the mass murderer instead of a friend. His good luck might've made him think he'd win regardless of the situation. He shouldve worked with qrow not against him. Qrow i could say shouldve been more on guard against tyrian but with clover stopping qrow every step of the way didnt leave him with much of a choice but to fight clover with tyrian. And tyrian "the will of our goddess" callows took advantage of the chaos all the way through to(clover) the end.

His orders were to bring qrow In not tyrian and when it comes to a threat to James qrow is more likely to try and stop him. So yes qrow was biggest threat in eyes of ace ops

This and next Volume has a lot of "I can see it from both sides" moments. Not everything is cut and dry. Even though we usually side with the main cast, sometimes we can see where the others are coming from. My opinion but Qrow did not have a choice. Sure teaming up with Tyrian was not great but his life was in danger, and also as far as he knows, Ruby, Yang, and the rest of the group are also in danger. He gave Clover multiple attempts to go after Tyrian instead of him but Clover did not. Qrow knows he is an even, if not better match for Tyrian, but with Clover also in the mix, he has a real chance of dying due to how close Tyrian and Qrow are at fighting ability. He probably thought he could take Clover down (knocked out) then take on Tyrian. His biggest mistake was letting his emotions take over at the end and not paying attention to his other enemy which is why Tyrian was able to kill Clover. Ruby's diss line to Harriet is one of my favorite lines from the series. Penny still best girl.

The clover fight is the most maligned writing decision of the show from what it feels like in the fandom. No one in the fight really makes the right decision

Robyn's ego causes another problem. She escalated a situation she wasn't directly involved with, leading to Tyrian's escape. And honestly, Qrow is more of a moron than Clover. He went from being "Let's just wait to talk to James" to "I am now going to team up with a serial killer to avoid arrest". Clover was just doing his job: Bringing in criminals

With a little different writing, they could have gotten the same outcome without any of the characters looking stupid.

Ace ops only lost because they weren’t fighting as a team and all have different ideas and opinions on the entire situation also clover dying sucks ngl I get people anger but I don’t think they have been in a military like position either if the general or whoever you commanding officers tell you to do something you do yes it sucks but it’s life

personally i have huge problems with how the threeway fight was written and more specifically how clover was written in that moment it didnt make any sense. I get the rest of the ace-ops vs rwby happened they follow ironwood so they will fight them to arrest them. But it clover's case felt completely out of character. yes i think he would follow ironwood's order and try to arrest qrow but not the way they wrote it. his character was portrayed to be pretty sensible but they made him throw logic out the window completely in this episode because they wanted the threeway fight

Qrow got that man killed instead of just disengaging and making a run for it he decided oh yeah just go into a triple threat. Extremely bad move by him.

So the lore about the maidens is that yes un the legend Oz gives them their magic however in volume 6 when learning about Salem and Oz's past it is revealed that the original maidens were actually their daughters who were born with magic.

Such a good episode

The sad thing is even if it wasnt portrayed well. Robyn was right to step in as she knows Clover more than Qrow and even if Qrow said "okay sure" she would have had none of it because it would go against her ideals. Clover on the off hand is so order bound he wouldnt be willing to just wait like Qrow tried suggesting and as soon as Robyn threw away her freedom and attacked Qrow didnt have a choice because at that point maybe tyrion would be in custody but so would everyone else and nobody would have free hands to object against whatever came next.

About the maiden powers, the story was that the Wizard (Ozpin in this case) gifted the girls his magic making them maidens, in reality he was their father and every time they die they bond their soul and powers to a new woman who becomes the next maiden. So yea technically all the maidens, good, bad, or old are all Salem and Ozpins children….adopted or otherwise.

I really hope Qrow kills Tyrian in Volume 10
