11:36 I absolutely love the cat(aka Neo)'s reaction here. He's wildly frustrated at not being able to pass thru the door, But as soon as he realizes he's being watched - he immediately goes into nonchalant mode.
@@scrambledEgg69 Still, the character design for both Alyx and the Blacksmith are somewhat related. The color of the Blacksmith’s hair matches the stripes Alyx was wearing on her waist and they both wear a blue hairband. Both wanted to fix things as well. That cannot be a coincidence.
OH MY GOSH!! I JUST NOTICED THAT SHE WAS WORKING ON LITTLE'S HEAD WHEN RUBY WALKED UP TO THE BLACKSMITH! JUST LIKE HOW SHE WAS WORKING ON THE HERBALIST'S WINGS THAT LAST TIME WE SAW HER
For Summer her fairy tale inspiration is speculated to be the Huntsman from Little Red Riding Hood since her weapon resembles an axe used to chop wood and it changes into a hunting rifle and it’s further backed up by the fact that Ruby is confirmed to be based on Little Red Riding Hood herself.
Jaune fighting the cat was the highlight of the episode for me. Holding his own in a serious fight without being reduced to comic relief for absolutely no reason.
People can keep their rwby hate goggles on all they want. This volume was a breath of fresh air. From diving in deeper into rwbys fairy tale vibe to bringing ruby's character full circle. To going even DEEPER into the brothers lore and giving us stiff to think about qhen it comes to summer rose. This volume was fantastic
In my experience, the people who say this is filler are pretty much ignorant people who haven’t even watched the season Or it’s people who have a tinge of doubt because Alice in Wonderland themes tend to be used as filler or just something for fun in anime usually. But if anyone watched this season without some weird hate boner, they’d see this volume is amazing and essential for character growth
Filler doesn’t necessarily mean bad, it just means that it doesn’t progress the story and is more of a detour since they are put into some alternate realm. However, if Ruby actually becomes Summer then they are all wrong about it being filler because that would mean the Volume actually has a payoff that does progress the story.
@@MadMax-ii8gq I think it's already giving a payoff, Jaune has grown as a character in experience, Blake and Yang have moved passed some doubt, and Ruby is getting serious emotions sorted out, and will likely get a boost of sorts even if she doesn't become Summer. I just feel like it shouldn't hinge on Ruby becoming someone else. The Geojems and Herbalist didn't become comepletely differnt people.
@@MadMax-ii8gqWell I guess we'll have to wait for next volume to really see if they learned anything at all from their adventure in the everafter, but currently, it's looking more and more that this volume's a filler. I really hope that doesn't end up being the case.
I always say "RWBY is not a live action show. RT is not a big company. They can't exactly AFFORD to make 'filler episodes'. EVERY episode has a purpose of advancing the story in some way, shape or form."
I just realized something, when ruby first met the blacksmith she was making a butterfly wing, which was then used for the Herbalist, and during this encounter shes making some kind of mask shaped like a mouse skull, so is little gonna get a metamorphosis now too?
I was wondering what that mask might be for! I think that makes sense, since they've made it clear that only if the Jabberwalker eats them do they not ascend and permanently die, it's gotta be!
ruby turning into summer... i couldn't think of anything worse, I love both of their characters, but ruby needs her own identity not just following summers footsteps all the time, its not fair on Ruby or on Tai
I think so long as she becomes neither old Ruby nor Summer but something new and different I’ll be okay with it. But carbon-copy Summer would be bad, just imagine what it would do to Tai and Yang
@@valathor95 I haven’t seen it yet :O I like to watch alongside Arnold. Edit: but glad you weren’t outraged by whatever it was, I’m looking forward to it!
The leaves return you to the tree. I'd assume no tree means no ascension for her. Spoilers for Chapter 10. The information we gain about the brothers though does give some questions. Remnant was made by the brothers, who came from the EA. I wonder if Salem could go to the EA or if she is quite literally held to only remnant like the wording the gods said. Given the gods created a cycle of death and birth though makes me think that the tree wouldn't work in Remnant either way, but there's no way to know.
@@lizard1255 I mean... but we don't know if she can't leave Remnant! Obviously with the events of Chapter 10 I feel that they're leading up to a God-related final season where they right some wrongs, but also we don't know what would happen if they trick Salem into falling into the Ever After so the curse never applies ("walk THIS earth")
Something to point out that makes a whole lot of sense when you think about it... (Spoiler if you haven't watched the episode yet) Alice in Wonderland was written by Reverend Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, using the pseudonym Lewis Carroll. So it makes perfect sense that Lewis was the one who got out and then wrote the book.
This episode shines more light on how Ruby's been feeling. She feels lost and is unsure of who she is anymore. And now we've got the full truth about what happened to Lewis and Alyx, and what a twist. Also, forgot to mention with last episode but when the Cat first possessed Neo and started talking, it didn't sound like just Robbie's (The Curious Cat's) voice. It actually sounded kinda like Robbie's voice was blended with Casey's, which if that was the case that's some awesome attention seeing as, although Neo is canonically mute, she does make some sounds Casey is credited as her official VA.
The king changed for the worse, the papers changed for the better, any that changes are always different. In the words of the Cheshire Cat "Different is neither good or bad, but certainly means not the same."
Weiss has been coping surprisingly well considering what happened last volume. She's obviously very sad about it but she's been able to keep going and support her friends. It still worries me that Neo Cat and Weiss used the same phrase, "nothing to go back to", but I think wanting to stay with her friends will be enough to get her through the door.
for the finale, I expect 'ruby' when she comes out, to stop the 'cat' cold. Probably even set it straight, and have it slink away in shame. Ruby's soul, with the emotional maturity(and backing) of her mother. and, knowing RT, probably the EQUIVALENT to a maiden in destructive power in encounters that do not involve Grimm. If we do not see her face off with Salem in some way by the end, I fully expect it in the final season.
Something I didn't notice til second watch is in the first scene with the blacksmith she's working on a butterfly wing. And then we see here the herbalist with his wings and I think that's a really neat tidbit :D
Ruby's mentality kind of reminds me of Tucker from the Chorus arc where he wasn't sure every decision was the right one but wash told him to keep trying. Shout out to recurring themes
Before we start, apparently, Weiss retains the title as RWBY's Best Girl. Now that that's out of the way... *-Episode 9: A Tale Involving a Tree* -RWBY quote of the chapter _“What... are you?” (Summer Rose)_ -Truth of the Tree Acceptance. Growth. Change. These apparently are the main aspects of the tree. Clearly it is sentient (with the Blacksmith being its speaker). And it goes in various stages depending on the people. For those from Remnant, it gives them access to the way back once they were able to resolve whatever problems they had. (Interestingly, they would explain Curious' comment to Weiss, saying she was the most annoying as she had no issues to deal with throughout the chapter, much less for him to manipulate. Her experiences with her father had already given her the strength to overcome such tactics). Particularly, Ruby, Jaune and Neo were dealing with difficult problems, with each one of them dealing with a different part of the process. For Jaune and Ruby, both were dealing with burden of doing their best and losing, while Ruby and Neo both had issues that threatened their very identities. In Jaune's case, he had time to do attempt to do something, but ended up overcompensated by 'protecting' the Paper Pleasers, driven by his desire to be the hero and to save others, all the while stagnating their purpose. It actually goes back to his original desire back at Beacon. In the end, seeing how his actions were flawed, he was able to overcome it due to his experience with the Paper Pleasers (now the Genteel Gems), having to come to terms with his own issues on a smaller, yet more direct, scale in the Ever After and thus making it to the tree with the others. For Ruby, she had to bear a similar feelings of failure, but there was no moment of acceptance or resolution, which is why she broke down and succumbed to despair. It would explain why the tree was more in contact with her (the Blacksmith and the weather; and the fact that she's the protagonist). Who would have thought that Neo would be the tragic person in this story. Seems to a blessing or a curse that her current state prevents Curious from going into Remnant, but only because she has nowhere else to go and no ties to anyone. Revenge was her only motivation and once achieved, she had nothing else. -Malicious Feline We knew Curious was more than what he seemed to be, but to think he'd be this kind of a menace. And with Neo's body in his possession, even more so, especially with his treachery on Jaune (That Penny/Pyrrha combo was just mean). And to top it off, to escape to Remnant, he will possess Ruby again, and is willing to kill off the others to do it. We also get to learn to truth about the fairytale, that Louis is the writer of the story, being the only one to leave the Ever After. Given how the story is written, it is likely that Louis didn't know about the darker schemes behind his back and thus the story was viewed from his (positive) point of view, all the while honoring his sister by writing her as the protagonist of the story when she didn't come back and not knowing why. -Choice _"Paul Atreides must die... The Kwisatz Haderach must rise..." (Dune)_ I imagine that this may turn out to be something like that, that Ruby may not undergo a physical change so much a mental one. She still wishes to be a Huntress and a hero, but she may follow a different way in doing that. Of course, there may be a change to her physical form as well, but it may be slight. But as Curious taunted, we don't know what she will be when she emerges, only that it will not be the same Ruby Rose. And although the tree's guidance helped everyone else with their issues, Ruby's current condition and transformation may require that a physical change as well (like the Herbalist). How deep that change goes is entirely up to Ruby. And if the last scene is any indication, she may become more like her mother. Or perhaps, her perspective of her mother...
To think the Cat could've just helped Alyx fix things (since that's their role), they would've gone back to Remnant regardless of when. And all because the Cat had no chill. Like bruh, "later" doesn't mean "never".
Man I remember when I was watching RWBY and wanted to find another who also watched it so I found you. I remember the shared emotes with what happened at the fall of beacon. Its such a good ride. I'm scared and excited for what Ruby could become.
I believe I have an interesting theory about RWBY's ending (at least one of the main aspects of the ending);(possible spoilers alert???) We know Salem can't be killed, however in S6-7 when presented with that fact and wondering how to defeat Salem, Ozpin/Oscar looks at Ruby, that and well, she's rhe main character, and there are a lot of other reasons as to why Ruby is the Key to defeating Salem, I think most of ppl are ok board with that. Now Comes the interesting part, how? Since the 3rd Season, the silver eyes have been one of the main central plots points, and there are a LOT of elements to back that up. However, what if the silver eyes were not the key, what if her semblance was, how she Can break herfself(and others)down to molecular level, Travel and reasemble... I think you know what I mean now. What if in order to defeat Salem, Ruby had to use her semblance, to separate Salem in différent parts (prolly 4) and Put them in récipients and such, along with hereslf... A willing sacrifice, but not in death, in staying in the molecular state, probably for eternity, or at least until her friends unite Remnant and collects all 4 Relics, so at the end, she would just need to have faith (RT loves that). That's probably why we are focusing more and more on Ruby's psyche and traumas, because at the end of the day, it will all depend on her, on her will and determination... I find that theory really interesting(sorry if someone thought of it before tho) and I Hope you'll see this
very Interesting theory! I like the angle of it. but. Also unlikely. If all it took to kill salem was to effectively have four people eat her matter, that would be an easy solve. Weve seen that Salem reforms even after being blasted to dust, and it doesnt pull the old matter back, she doesnt reform she simply returns with a new body. Also you're glossing over the problem of a semblance, it only works while you have the aura to fuel it. And to have someone with a quarter of a person's matter added to their body would kill them or just be disgusting salem tumors and thats bot accounting for rubys molecules if she stayed in that state herself. Which when her aura ran out would revert to normal, or instantly kill her. My theory is the silver eyes can break the grimm influence within salem, purifying her. Maybe also using her semblance to filter it out. Then they have to deal with Salem, who while still a maniac, isnt compelled to destroy anymore. Another theory I have is that it ends up not mattering. They unite the remaining people against salem. And when the gods return, they find people are united, maybe not flawlessly but at least neither demanding blessings, nor warring with eachother.
Thank you, for your reaction on this episode, thanks to you I am noticing details that I missed during my watch on RWBY episodes. Thank you again and hope you'll be okay for Volume ending.
Neo is officially my favorite villainess now. Even when she’s… heh… CATatonic and possessed by a demon cat, she’s still doing whatever (after, Heh) she wants.😂
“You tried to help the people of the market. You mostly failed. This is life. The longer you live, the more you fail. Failure is the mark of a life well lived. In turn, the only way to live without failure is to be of no use to anyone. Trust me, I've practiced.” Oathbringer
salutations guys, im from guarenas venezuela, known for being worst country in the world. and im big fan of the series. i know that you most probably reject someone like me, cause im not like you, but im really big fan of the series have you ever think about the series begins with the frase: this will be the day weve waited for and the opening theme of volume 8 ends with the frase: will this be the day that weve allways fear?? so curious if you ask me, sounds like contradiction and deception when you find out life is not like anime sorry if its not well written, cause of course im learning and practicing id be pleased if you answer asesino de pajaros, bye kisses and hugs
This *feels* like a similar situation as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Ruby feels like she can’t live up to the expectations placed upon her, like Peter felt like he couldn’t live up to Iron Man. But not even Tony could live up to Iron Man. Ruby can’t live up to her mom. But instead, Ruby becomes her mom and becomes the inspiration for everyone. A sort of time loop ish thing. Like how Jaune was always going to be the Rusted Knight. But we’ll see how they’ll return to Remnant
You know i remember watching some youtuber play overwatch with rwby characters years ago maybe like volume 5 and idk if those were real rwby voice actors but they sure sounded like them and in one of their videos they actually had Summer... Now i took this as an unconfirmed voice actor moment but it pretty much confirmed it for me that we will indeed get a summer scene where she talks. So incase those were all real voice actors then they had a confirmed voice actress for summer for a while now which is interesting. Doe i doubt they would hire someone and not do anything with them for all those years i mean you would be paying them for nothing so idk.
Man oh man. An insane chapter this episode was. And I have to admit this has me watching it over for so many times I lost count! Lol. 😂 In any case, it seems we may be getting some answers very soon on what will happen next! Still, the question remains, how will Ruby ascend? I can get that the Blacksmith said “You can leave Ruby Rose behind”, but I think she meant more like leave that chapter of her life behind as what defines her now, are the experiences she’s gone through. Hence, the need for a new weapon and a possible change (both in outlook and appearance). One cannot stay who they are as is forever. They’d stagnate. Finally, I just realized something else. Curious Cat mentioned how Alyx wanted to “fix” everything she had broken in the Ever After. Could this mean that Alyx is a part of the Tree and as such, is the Blacksmith?! Awesome reactions my friend. I hope you get better soon and keep up the awesome!
Regarding Lewis, is he still alive back in Remnant? If so, he's probably very old. I hope he makes an appearance in the future volumes to see Jaune again and learn about what truly happened to Alyx.
I actually think Alyx became the Blacksmith. She wanted to fix everything she ruined, so the tree reached out to her after the cat killed her. Hell, that part where she shows Ruby different glass cases is a pretty clear-cut reference to "Through the Looking Glass", the sequel to "Alice in Wonderland".
@@Desdemona-XI Well since it was apparently Louis (spelling?) that wrote the story and not Alyx, he probably didn't meet the Blacksmith so of course it wouldn't be in the story
This was a good reaction so Summer is finally Revealed and we hear her speak and she is the narrator of the volume Ruby has ascended and much choose who she wants to be The others find the Way out were the cat is trying to escape through it with Neo but she won’t pass through because in order to get through one must have a connection to Rement but Neo doesn’t anymore since Roman is dead and we discovered that Lewis was the one to return home while Alyx had revelation that she want to put right the wrongs she had done and decided to stay with broke the promise to the Cat to take him to Rement so it killed her and so Jaune and The rest of Team RWBy fight it and Jaune is knocks off the Cliff accidentally by Weiss’s Flame attack and the Black Smith is part of the Tree and the PapperPleasers and Herb have ascended and have become their new Selfs which they are Gemstones and are now more debatable and and can create more Sturdy Creations.
Be sure to wash your hands before and after eating, avoid raw and acidic foods, and have disinfectant with you if you need a quick clean, and be sure to drink 8 glasses worth of water min a day.
"why not just merge the two" because that isn't how it works lmao. Ruby can't just game this alternate dimensions reincarnation system to her own benefit, she has a choice to make here. otherwise theres literally no stakes.
I have to say the fact that you bring this much energy even when you feel sick shows just how much you love doing these reactions. Also a great chapter and next week... oh next week...
Tbh the bit in the back of my head was like "yo what if summer had got sent to the ever after and ascended which is why her weapon is even there amidst the weapons the blacksmith has"
I hope you fell better Murder and I thank you for posting even thought you don’t fell 100% also I can’t wait to see your reaction to the final episode of RWBY volume 9 I just watched it and I can’t wait to see your reaction
I think people were calling it filler mostly because of how fast it felt. But just because it was fast, doesn't mean we didn't get anything out of it, just come from Ep 10 and while I won't say anything for spoiler reasons, my god is this the opposite of filler
The reason they call it filler is because it doesn't feel necessary. It's not an integral part of the greater war with Salem. Volume 9 has been fantastic with the character work. From Ruby's accumulating stress culminating in the Ep7 breakdown, the Bumblebee moments, Jaune's arc (pun not intended), and Wiess' moments with all of the above. There's a ton of really impactful moments in the volume. But on the same token, they haven't furthered the plot a single step. They don't have a relic, they don't have any hints to beat Salem, they haven't unlocked some power to aid in the fights to come. If you were just looking for the main plot, there isn't a lot here. If RT had wanted to streamline the plot, they easily could've removed the "Do not fall." Bit from v8, had Neo upgrade her semblance in battle to counter Team Rwby, and Cinder manages to cleverly steal the relics and force Team Rwby through the gate. That would leave them, more or less, in exactly the same place as they are now and effectively cut the whole of v9. I'm firmly of the opinion that characters are an integral part of the story, and character arcs not only don't need the main plot to serve a narrative purpose, but in my experience, often benefit from removing it. But I do see the people who would've preferred these moments to occur in an arc that actually mattered in the grand scheme of the plot instead of having one whole volume of character development and nothing else.
I just went down the IMDB for Summer Rose's voice actress. Of the first 8-ish that I recognized, 5 of them combined cover about as much skin as Summer Rose shows... I love them all, and mostly not for that reason, but damn. Sol Marron, Tio, Kaori Kanzaki, Leannon Sidhe (aka Red Current), and Asmodeus... I have no regrets.
Praying for you man! I had the same sickness, minus the chills and pains.. but, get physical and mental rest. Separate yourself from people and collect yourself. Mental strain and possibly stress from the anticipation of the next RWBY *Haymaker* episode .. Much love, We love to see you at full energy. Joyful tears and all true reaction and deep diving knowledge and theories (oh my gosh! Your theories are top tier) but, you gotta be 100 percent for yourself! You can't pour out of an empty cup, my guy! You are in prayers!
This has been such A good volume. The growth of character development. The truth each & everyone of them had to come to terms with. The reflect on themselves has been a lot. They will be so much stronger as A team & as individuals. Can’t wait till the finale reaction. ❤🤍🖤💛
I hope Ruby moved to carrying an axe (that can be a rifle or spear it looks like)/ It connects her to her mom, and shows the red riding hood motif (more than a scythe).
I literally can’t believe that I was right about ruby becoming Summer Rose or a version of her, I was was going to ask you about it in your livestream before.
I just hope that it they choose to make her befome anyone else (with lost memories) that they leave hints behind as well. Have her forget and struggle with adjusting to her family, but also have moments where she says "i'm combat ready!" Or steals moves from pyrha or something like that to show that "the heart rarely forgets"
