@@timothylewis2450 That happened in the '90s (year?) when they played a benefit at the Arlington Theatre in Santa Barbara for a progressive candidate for the 5-member governing board overseeing that county. Kenny Loggins also played a set. It was a memorable show. And I was lucky to be in SB for a conference for work that week and got in to see it! (and ran into the Mullicans there, Ry's neighbors and old family friends)
I was lucky enoough to be at this show, my first David Lindley live experience. Mind blowing. I recall David talking about them bringing string instruments from the California dryness to the humidity of New Orleans and watching them warp and become unusable. Didn't stop them from playing one helluva show in the Louisiana rain. RIP David...
Legends playing on stage and the drummer is keeping every beat..Ry Cooder And David Lindley are musicians that spread the word everywhere they are..rhythm is great

I was fortunate enough to eat breakfast with Ry Cooder in Baton Rouge the morning after a concert. He had some enlightening views on hash browns and middle-aged men wearing shorts. A true American icon!
Sometimes called a Mandocaster. I believe technically it’s an octave guitar. Full props to Lindley too on that bouzouki. There’s nothing with strings they can’t play.
I found a short video about this instrument. He goes into great detail about the setup and shortcomings of the instrument, but it sounds so sweet. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GM9CaT1RtiA.html
Ry is a national treasure. Too bad most won't take the time to figure that out. I'm glad that there is more to music than most of the crap on the air these days.
Two of the guitar greats. BTW that's Ry's son Joachim on dunbek etc. Ry taught guitar lessons at the Ash Grove in the mid 60s when I began learning. Unfortunately I never got any lessons from him.
RIP David Lindley! Remember getting told to sit down when you made us want to dance at the Golden Bear way back in the 1980's Counted 16 shows from my ticket stub jar, that I attended. Lindley is the slide guitar king; not to mention the master of an incredible collection of stringed instruments! Thanks for rocking all those years; and all those songs; and concerts!
Can't say for sure, but back-up singers are Terry Evans, Bobby King, maybe Arnold McCuller or Willie Green. They worked w/ Ry a lot over the years. Check this concert out if you haven't heard it before: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tbtoXRFOwEc.html
Ry and David playing together always brings a smile to my face, and ya gotta love them gospel-inflected harmonies. Just 'cause I lean towards atheism doesn't mean I can't worship at the Church of Good Friends Making Great Music Together, right?!
Ry is one of the most unappreciated guitarists and has been for a long time. He can play any style of music at a very high level. Lindley is right up there with Ry. Linda Ronstadt called him the best guitar player she ever saw.
"Underappreciated"???? Only to out of it, unaware and way too young people. All critics, fans and fellow musicians have always "appreciated" Ry Cooder and have the highest praise of him since he first came on the scene in the 60's.
You ever hear a piece of music and feel it so much that you have to listen to it on repeat? I'm having that experience with this performance and my God is it glorious. This is what it's all about. It is truly a religious experience when it touches you like that. Powerful stuff, here. Wow.
I hope this Covid-19 blow outs and Mollusk Surf Shop in Venice Beach (California) once again starts doing live shows. I'd love to see Ry or David there. Or at McCabe's Guitar shop in nearby Santa Monica.
David Lindley and Ry Cooder is amasing in this performance..on stage and fantastic..legends at there best..Ry Cooder is making things happen in concert in front of thousands..incredible legendary music ..Ry Cooder a grand singer..never forgotten
Thanks to everyone here on this stage..Ry Cooder a legend and his son a great performer and David Lindley is terrific on that guitar and sings so good..great band..I enjoy all this terrific music..thank you all
Crazy about a Mercury huh..let the times roll on David Lindley and Ry Cooder..get it on boys..never forgotten..on stage and music flowing out ,how grandly..
I saw Ry and Dave at the Newport FF in ‘90. What an absolute thrill to see these two slide masters play together. Ry and Dave - both national treasures. RIP Mr Dave 😢
Seriously, NOLA Jazz Fest has had more legendary performances than dang near any festival. It’s just absolutely amazing who might show up on stage to play with some other legendary artist. All the love!
I’m guessing that’s an electric mandolin that Ry’s playing (anybody know?). That can’t be an easy instrument to play (unless you’re Ry Cooder, I guess). Love me some Ry. Love his breadth. And props to Mr Lindley. Saw him live once opening for and then backing up Bonnie and Bruce (and Jackson Brown and Shawn Colvin). Outdoors and kissed by awful weather from an inland hurricane. Didn’t slow down anyone, not even a little. Pretty fantastic show
They must have closed what was then the Ray Ban Stage that day. Great crowd. Love the close up of Lindley's solo in Mercury Blues. Anyone have the whole set?
Got two legends on this stage..David Lindley and Ry Cooder..best entertainment and guitar players in performance..rhythem and melody is fantastic with backup singers at there best..
1994. Randy Newman singing "they're trying to wash us away' and the heavens opened with an almighty thunderstorm and lightning show. Shut down Bluesfest for an hour then Ry came out to close the day with this.
