I'm 75 and and been listening to quality Rock and Roll, Blues, Jazz and Folk music since the late 50s. Ry's influence is woven into loads of the music. Some of it I knew while some I discovered later. I bought Buena Vista Social Club the day I saw it. I see your point but I see some hope as well. Playing For Change helps me keep hopeful for the future. My daughter and grands started life with an of appreciation great music too. There are some excellent foreign bands from Europe and Japan. Nightwish is Rock as fine art. There are a host of good to great cover band around as well, imy2 and First Two Eleven cover many genres between them. My fav of the past week is Little Heartbreak Girl by Beth Hart. I just noticed your comment is 2 years old. Oh well.
March '86, far from TX (Warsaw, Poland), fresh new movie "Paris Texas". I've never heard music during watching the movie but not that time. People were leaving the hall. I stayed to read who wrote and played the music. Minimalistic, concentrated, moody extract from the blues. 35 years with Ry Cooder. It is much easier to live, to survive, no matter what goes on. Thanks, Ry
Ry is one of the best musicians and reason why is clear. He is a genius and ALWAYS did what he wanted, not what paid the best. Ry Cooder is an absolute brilliant musician.
You're so very wrong in calling him underrated and undervalued. He is very highly rated , very highly valued and very highly respected by anyone who knows him. What is, however, is largely unknown.
That lovely blues from the Soul Queen of New Orleans, the powerful & tuneful Irma Thomas, has revitalized my “New Orleans-ness”!!! All I need now is a Hubig’s Pie……. Mercy! She makes my soul smile!
Ry features in my music listening way back to hearing him in the early 70’s. Everything he does has soul, authenticity and just pure joy. He has it all and then some more.

Ry, just adore that mellow slide, nothing flashy ..... just what’s needed 👌 and Irma !!! Oh my 🙏 listen in Beyoncé et al’ that’s how you do it, soul, class and no need to show off 🎶💕
Ryland's been my favorite blues, soul, funk, roots, string and slide player since I was 19 yo. Saw him at Chateau Liberté in the Santa Cruz mountains, by himself, almost close enough to be in our laps, as the usual suspects at that biker bar threw insults and epithets from the back. He gave us an incredible show, unruffled pro in '73. 👍
Caught Stanley Doral Jr. { " Buckwheat Zydeco " } in concert back in the early 90's , at Skipper's Smokehouse in Tampa, Fla. ...and again some years later at The Grand theater in Ellsworth , Maine ..He was Awesome !
AAAAGH !!! 2/10/2021 and I am just now seeing this. Ya'll back when the sun shined, beer flowed, crawdad's boiled, in a town in the non-swamps of Isleton, CA we lived as close to life as we could. Merci Beaucoup
Brilliant performance always by Ry Cooder..what a legend and great singer on top of being a great slider player on his guitar..Great rhythem and lyrics..thank you
The houseshoes is on stage and what's in them is phenomenal and a legend ..Ry Cooder is sensational with his slider on guitar..Musicians on stage is fantastic with Ry Cooder..r u with me?
Great band bass & drums really lock in beautifully... Watch how they all look at Ry... all musicians are really impressed impressed with the guitarist more influential on everyone than we realize
It's time to Strut your stuff Ry Cooder..Let's get it on and the rhythem is outstanding..The melody is terrific and what a music genius sending his phenomenal sound out to his fans..what a performance..The other two musicians are great.
Ry Cooder celebrates New Orleans music, an ideal mix of creative American music genres, from its origins on the streets of New Orleans to. One of its most influential advocates of later modifications reflecting brilliant influences from both sides of the border! Long live Ry Cooder and continued respect for its down home New Orleans origin ❤😊
Ry Cooder. A national treasure. Hell, he's a cultural heritage monument. Not only a world-class player but an exceptional band-leader. His bands _always_ have the best-in-class musicians, man. I can't imagine changing anyone in this lineup for letting les bon temps rouler in NOLA. (well...maybe one...does anyone believe LK when he sings "i works on the levee night and day"? didn't think so) edit to add: this is the first time since 2005 that i've thought of the Katrina tragedy-slash-epic-government-FAIL without cussing everyone in authority for the rest of the day. only music can do that.
@Gino Siegelli-Been hip to Ry since I was a kid. Lucky. Check out "Maria Elena." 1 of the most heartbreakingly beautiful guitar pieces EVER, by anyone IMHO. - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Vy0lCn4Jw0I.html Peace & Love, M ;)
Best sound ever when you play it loud, like been on LSD and listening and seeing the music come out in notes from a loud speaker and feeling the music through and through making your body shake and shimmy, oh yeah!
Buck Wheat and Ry ! Glad i made it till today. And Lenny ( didn't recognize him till he sings)."When the levee breaks" is a FORMIDABLE song ! to you Minnie !!
I"m so glad they finally showed somebody dancing before the 2 minute part. I don't know how the crowd could stay seated during Josephine. I can hardly sit here myself.
@@R400TVR O.k. An unarmed incursion. No. I remember 'Eric Burdon and the Animals' attacked L.A. in '64 and they were heavily armed with guitars, drums, organ, good songs and a sassy blues attitude that overwhelmed our defences!
Saw, Ry when he toured here many years ago! Knew I was hearing music from a genius! Melbourne Australia ps n to think he has only one eye makes it even more remarkable!!
Can't wait for when this corona scourge is beat down so I can get to my favorite city in the world ,music and food, plus the good people of Nawlins... (from a die hard New Yorker)
Love that version of "When The Levee Breaks!" I dunno, would you call it a zydeco version? I'm hearing some strains of "Goin' Up The Country" there. Awesome! Anyone else feeling that? Yiew! :-)
So nitty-gritty and down earth... (My Josephine: Open G tuning, capo III = B flat key , for those interested, who want to play over it...). The only bummer is to remain precise with the slide, using such dark glasses!
Man, this has that Mardi Gras feel to it... I love seeing how much Ry is feelin' it and just giving back to the people what they're giving him. Some of what we're getting is due to the musicians he playing with, no doubt. Torching the shit out of these songs in his inimitable signature style. OR he could be 'on' something. Just sayin'....
