Sam, many thanks for your comments and I hope you are enjoying the videos. In this example we use use Compass Course to illustrate that when we plot the Course to Steer on the chart in degrees true we want to convert it. So we want to take account of both Magnetic Variation, and Magnetic Deviation in order to convert the course to steer from degrees true (The Chart) to degrees Compass . The Compass course is what thel the person on the helm will aim to steer. In the RYA Day Skipper course the distinction is made between degrees Magnetic and Degrees Compass. The degrees Magnetic excludes an adjustment to Magnateic Deviation, which the boat may be subject to, and is used in many of the Day Skipper exercises. You will find the Deviation card for the RYA boat at the back of the RYA Training Almanac. I hope that helps, and thank you for watching.
