@@tomgardiner2490 yeah. He’s rlly super hit or super miss. Don’t much care about his personal life but I did just watch a recent video where he’s I think 9 months sober. TMZ girl asked him about cancel culture and he just like he was found jogging did he jog over that answer. lol
@@tomgardiner2490 Saw him a few nights ago. The trouble is, he's so good, he's almost good enough to get away with his terrible behavior. It's such a beautiful mess and you just can't look away. lol. I don't know how else to describe it.
@@ihatekillerclowns I'm from Sweden, out of the US. I know very we'll who Ryan Adams is. As many Swedes do. Oh, BTW, don't mix Sweden up with Switzerland!!
I love the recorded version of this song, but there's just something so emotional and raw when the harmonica is played live here that takes this performance to a different level
@@francesward2830 I think Jeff Buckley deserves mention in this conversation as well. But he only released one full album before his untimely death. I also really like Jerry Cantrell from Alice In Chains as a lyricist.
Ok, the way I see it, Ryan Adams songwriting here is genius because he has the ability to let go of his control over it and, with an almost out of body experience, observe how to analyze, add or edit all the pieces until it is the most perfect of imperfections. In other words, he has achieved true mastery in his artistic medium and has the ability to masterfully reveal his enlightenment to us again and again and again.
Ryan Adams is the ultimate genius. One of the best song writers and performers. I'd place him at the top with John Haitt , L Lovett, Doc Pomus, Daryl Hall and Josh Kelley.
I love Ryan and this song is one of my favorites from him. Neil Finn is my all time favorite. However, I feel like he’s thinking ‘damn, Ryan’s been through way more shit than me.’
Still my absolute very favorite Ryan Adams song and in my all-time top 3 song list. Everything about this is sheer perfection. The harmonica gives me goosebumps and the lyrics are so beautiful they make my heart hurt. This man is genius.
@@Willie_Wahzoo zillions don't have the legacy and influence for one ,and overall talent. But Ryan has the honor of being the only one to cover an entire album by one of the most overrated ditzy air headed pop musicians of our time.
When I want to have an American experience I play this song in the car (I'm an Australian living in the US), but actually I know this song from "home" -- it reminds me of being young and f**ked up myself.
I heard this song come on RU-vid when I was taking a very long hangover shit, but I managed to see the end of the song, one of my favourite artists ever, respect x
@@andyferguson6474 Agree, definitely not ‘romantic’. For me this song is the perfect depiction of a certain kind of all- consuming love that reduces us to mere shadows of the sensible person we used to be. No one describes that kind of love better than Ryan here - imo.
Ryan Adams man... I really dig the writing style, and the bluegrass, country, bluesy rock mix he's got goin on. And he can't be over 32.... He's got the same kind of soul and passion that I do.... It's a tough business though.... HEY RYAN, COME PICK ME UP N JAM WITH ME. WE'D DO AN AWESOME HARMONY!
I'm glad I found Ryan Adams through This is 40 because this is real music and it's hard to find now. This really makes you want to pick up your acoustic and play! A really beautiful and mind-catching track!
Although unknown to me Ryan Adams shot to God like status with this one song, look at the admiring face's of his fellow musicians, Niel Finn's expression @ 1:35 as he is close to bursting into tears. Well done BBC what a thoroughly enjoyable bit of television.
MLIN20 You did good. I love it. I have tried to find this show on DVD but no luck. If I lived in the UK maybe I could get it. But us yanks sometimes have a hard time getting things from there. Again, I love it. Im for sure talking about all the videos you have made of this. So then do it again. LOL
Thanks for your kind words. This is what RU-vid is for, so we can see things that are broadcast in other countries. And not just other countries because even if you were in the UK you wouldn't be able to get this on DVD. The BBC do produce DVDs but not for this series,so the only way anyone can see it is if someone recorded it at the time of broadcast.
WHEN THE SONG STARTS...... I CAN'T BREATH FOR ABOUT THE FIRST 60 SECONDS.. AND IT'S SO DAMN GOOD I DON'T NOTICE!!!!!!!!! THEN, I FIGHT BACK EMOTIONS ... HEARING THE PASSION IN RYAN'S VOICE.... INTENSE AND GOD SENT.. (SORRY FOR THE CAPS.. I LIKE TO SEE WHAT I TYPE.) HEY, GRAB A FAMILY MEMBER OR A FRIEND, HUG THEM AND TELL THEM YOU LOVE THEM.... IT MAY BE THE LAST CHANCE YOU GET. .. I LOST A GREAT FRIEND A YEAR AGO (1 YEAR AND 3 DAYS TO BE EXACT) ................I WISH I COULD..........................
magnifique chanson ,belle voix, rythme très doux agréable les paroles sont claires .quelle belle musique ,ça va être une belle nuit avec ce rythme"merci Gûnter Touchner" grâce à toi je découvre une très belle musique et un chanteurs excellent
The very very talented Mr Ryan Adams, Not entirely sure his time has passed and he knows he squandered his chance. There was a moment around 'Love is Hell pt 1' when he could have been the champion of the world. He can still write a damn good tune now and again. Love this version.
yes I've looked him in the eye personally as I was there and met him after the show, his eyes will quite literally penetrate your heart beautiful man...
He is.....Absolutely One of The Best Ever. You can Feel his music, and if You can't....just go listen to what the masses say is popular. An acoustic guitar and a Man beautifully conveying A depth of emotion that is almost painful, in an amazing way
Holy shit! I’ve watched this many times over the years because I love it so much and always thought-I know that’s Neil Finn but who’s the old guy? JANICE IAN. Wow lol
