I ain't never been to these places but this the most beautiful song I ever heard..I ain't never been to Vegas but I've gambled up my life 😭😭... When he played the harmonica 🫡 Got it from Yellowstone Sn3E1. 2024🎉
Love it or loathe this comment...Ryan Adams reaches inside me and finds me as much as Elvis himself....Ryan has been sent for a reason...his interviews are SO damned informative.
Oh my god yes----that is so true about that line for me as well....rips right into your heart and soul....amazing how just a few words in so many songs can do that....
Two people on here have either lost their mind or they have no idea what they are talking about. This song makes me instantly stop what I am doing, listen, and I will usually cry. It's so beautiful and yet painful. Thanks Ryan. Keep it up.
Well I went down to Houston and I stopped in San Antone I passed up the station for the bus Was trying to find me something but I wasn't sure just what I ended up with pockets full of dust So I went on to Cleveland and ended up insane Bought a borrowed suit and learned to dance I was spending money like the way it likes to rain And I ended up with pockets full of 'caine Oh my sweet Carolina What compels me to go? Oh my sweet disposition May you one day carry me home I ain't never been to Vegas but I gambled up my life Building news print boats I raced in sewer mains I was trying to find me something but I wasn't sure just what Funny how they say that some things never change Oh my sweet Carolina What compels me to go? Oh my sweet disposition May you one day carry me home Up here in the city it feels like things are closing in The sunset's just my light bulb burning out I miss Kentucky and I miss my family All the sweetest winds they blow across the south Oh my sweet Carolina What compels me to go? Oh my sweet disposition May you one day carry me home May you one day carry me home
Magical performance! There some moments in such performances that are so so sweet and touching! Such one is during 2.51-2.57 when Janis is singing the backing vocals, she has done something (do not know what) and turns first to Neil smiling and then looks back with compassion back at Ryan...Loved that moment...It was so beautiful surrounded by this angelic music!
Best be careful, and line up a box of tissues with this song then. Can a singer possibly write a song with 17 lyrics only and find the power to get a message over?? You decide...i think this artist has nailed it in one...read the first comment on her youtube vid...sums it up completely. "WHY?" by JASMINE LAMPORT....................."STRONG" and "BREATHE"(Sonic Foxx Version) are worth some time!!
People say there is no good music anymore. This is as good as any Simon and Garfunkel, Neil Young etc. Just sayin folks, don't be so hung up on the past you become blind to the present.
@@TheElectromagnet Are you kidding me ? Ryan Adams music is better than Simon and Garfunkel's music,as good as it was I mean ,he is like Neil Young very spiritual ,poetic ,romantic and just beautiful, baring his broken heart and soul for the whole world to see,a beautiful and gifted talented artist ,so right for the times we live in now ,his music like Elvis Presley whom I loved will never go out of style .May God bless him and always 💞💐🌸🌷♥️🌺💝🧬💖💖💖💖💖🌹
Saw Mr.Adams performed this song at Coachella. Made me miss the South so much as well as my family. Almost made me cry in front of all those people. What a great song.
This song is like a woman i keep going back to time and time again....we part company for a year or two...off i go and date and/or live with other chicks...then i break up somewhere down the line...and walking on the boardwalk of a town...THERE SHE IS ONCE MORE...standing in front of me...and i fall to my feet, in tears because i'm head over heels once again....with SWEET CAROLINA.... ....and her arms open up, as she picks me from off that boardwalk, dusts me off and readies me for heartbreak once again.....but i still love her....ALWAYS!!!! Whenever i hear this song...I'M DONE.........this dude is a MASTER...this song is a MASTERPIECE...rock on Ryan. Here's one right back atcha Mr Adams...you taught me feeling...i penned the words to JASMINE LAMPORT'S first three songs.....all whilst listening to this song.....BLESS YOU RYAN ADAMS....Jasmine's selling well..and i, too, am a songwriter now...touching other folk in the same way as you touched me...IT ALL GOES AROUND!!! Sonic Foxx.
Lucky for me i've never laughed inappropriately at a funeral or jetted off to the other side of the world, just because....i have great moods(extremely rarely crap moods), no record of incomplete tasks..have run two businesses(1st..3.a.m starts..who needs that!!...2nd..greedy bankers..recession)..SONIC FOXX MUSIC...3rd Business(in 25 years)..songs selling/streaming, am not irritable, never had trouble at work, don't drink or take drugs,(folk around me have died regularly due to this one...I LET OFF STEAM BY HITTING A4 pieces of paper with lyrics), erratic behaviour(who doesn't...HUMAN TRAIT..we're not robots), sleep problems(living next to a main road helps that one),flight of ideas(sure helps with songwriting), RAPID SPEECH(only when i write lyrics...or list stuff for shopping after my WIFE asks me if i "need anything")....and when it comes to my sexuality....Zzzzzzzz!!!!....boring, boring, BORING....it's barely ever featured on my radar...AT ALL....ask my WIFE.... ......erm...thanks for the ad though!! P.S. I have met many folk with Bi-polar, schizophrenia, mental issues, .....THEY WERE ALL CREATIVE(vast majority had hearts in the right place)....you do the math...and google Ralph Murphy who will tell you all about the best creatives...worth a look.
In all fairness though...I NEARLY JUMPED ON A RANDOM PLANE...and flew to America for one reason and one reason only. To hook up with and surprise an American dude i met on a writers forum...his name..BRION RIBORN...totally undiscovered talent...gifted, a poet, a songwriter and a superb human being in every aspect....AMERICA and the rest of the world will catch up one fine day...i actually wrote with him(an honour..trust me...he was SMASHING any opposition on that songwriter's forum)...a demo flew across the pond to England...and POW!!!...the best song i've ever co-written thus far. I once saw a youtube video of his where Brion was playing to a few folk in a bar(KITTY KIERNANS in NEW YORK...i think he still has a residency there)...you can hear some random guy speaking gently in the background...suddenly this comment comes from his mouth..."HE'S KINDA LIKE, JOHN MAYER..he's REALLY good"....nuff said...JOE PUBLIC knew!!! IS THIS AN AD FOR BRION RIBORN??.....DAMNED RIGHT IT IS!! We'd spot this guy in a heartbeat in England...and he'd be signed!!...on the spot. LOST IN AMERICA i guess...BIG COUNTRY.
I think this is probably my favorite favorite favorite song ever. I heard it first sung by Elton John in concert when he came to SC and I had to find out more about this song. I absolutely love this song who ever sings it :-)
Ron sexsmith is seriously dull in comparison to ryan adams. The deep dark woods are really fantastic musicians and another one of my favorite bands that give it all to the song and for the song.
It's a Harmony model 1219 from the 70's. Sears sold a less expensive model identical to it in 1971 for $82.00. I'd like to have a box full of those about now. Buck Owens made it famous, playing one every week on Hee Haw. He got a cool $2.50 from each Sears model sold.
Apologies. I was viewing multiple performances and got them crossed. This is clearly not a Dave Letterman show performance. Thanks for posting this. It is exceptional.
DEACON006 It was performed in the UK and broadcast by the BBC. One of the reasons I posted it was so people in the USA and elsewhere, who otherwise wouldn't have access, could see it. Just as I am grateful for people who post performances from David Letterman and other shows which I couldn't otherwise see. This is what is so good about You Tube.
Sometimes i get up in the morning, stretch a little and wonder what the world will bring me to make me desire breathing on this planet....there are three songs which do it to me every time....Ryan Adams(Sweet Carolina), Saturday Sun(Seagull) and ......Ray Lamontagne(Burn).....enough said....actually there are four...MESSIAH BY HELENA SOFTLEY.....beeeeeautiful!!!!!

There was a version online with Laura Marling, I think it was at Abbey rd, absolutely beautiful rendition, it's been taken down though, cant finding anywhere 🙄
Well, Ryan didn't think so... Emmylou and "croak of a frog" just doesn't equate. Emmylou is, if you didn't know, on the original recording of the CD, which I have, because I think they're both amazing singers.
3 words in and I cry for you 💔 heart is broken... My wife you were supposed to be and it was our destiny... It was... If only you could speak to me without anger in your heart or whatever it is that's ripping you apart... I know we are one and that will do me... If not this life... The next... Or another dimension 💕 we were together before I know we were
ryan adams was stunning on this show as was janis ian.... i thought neil finn's voice sounded shot to be honest. this song made a mark on me, larnt i since i heard it and have basically fallen in love with it. thanks for the upload
I can't believe you forgot this. You used to love it. I really did love singing it to you. I've written on this two years now and I wrote 2 years ago when we were back together. I think we're as mad as each other. I know your seeing if I still care when you know I do. I think your hitting me on and off let me know you do too and I feel it. Tell me I'm wrong Edel 💕
