Holy crap. Been looking to understand this for this a year but did not know what I was looking for. But watching it by brown belts at my academy, and now finally you, Ryan, now I see what I'm looking for. Thank you so much. I can't wait to try this hopefully tomorrow. Ossa!
@mastereismaname If you'll notice, with his left hand under his leg like that, he controls his partner's base. So, say this were an MMA match. In order to land blows from that position, his opponent would have to compromise his base. It'd be very easy for Ryan to off-balance him. His opponent then has two options; post out, and recover his base. Or get swept, and lose top position. Both of these prevent damage from strikes in a relatively simple movement.
@MrHelmerson Honestly, if you think about it, the hook almost does a well enough job maintaining your partner's hips. Because in order for him to move them, he needs the weight off of them, and on the foot you're hooking. But since you control his base, and your hook puts his own weight on his HIPS, he can't move them. Without knee pressure, however, it's very safe to assume he'd eventually work his way out.
@mastereismaname guys use deep half in mma all the time. watch fabricio fight some time, he owns guys with it, but he doesn't just sit there and talk like its an instructional either
lil nog uses deep half in mma and it works all the time...its no where near as tech as ryans deep half, but granted you have less time in mma to set stuff up because you have punches coming.this series it nice.
TheBarerOfBadNews riiiight. Try standing in someone’s deep half. You’re just giving them an easy single. You must think watching UFC you know how to fight, right?
