My Mind: Life pulls us in so many different directions. There are endless lives we could live, places we could go, people we could be… 'My Mind’ is about finally feeling like you found where you belong but you’re still resisting it a bit. You still wonder what else might be out there for you down another road. Ultimately I think that mindset can really hurt in the long run. I recorded this song in my bedroom and was nervous to even put it out into the world as it was one of my first.
Gone (Away): One of my biggest fears in life has been spending too much time focused on the future, missing what’s right infront of me. We are so good at worrying about the future - it’s the main reason humans are here today probably haha. But damn, sometimes it can be such a fight to notice what we have until it is taken from us. This song is a reminder to myself to not wait until things are taken and try and enjoy it right now.
Far From Home: A simple tune and the title of the track pretty much sums it up. I wanted this song to feel like a building journey and have the momentum of riding on a train through somewhere new. This was the second ever song that I did in my home-studio and I experimented with some different recording and production techniques with a friend to try and build the momentum in the song.
Alone (Reprised): A song about sticking together. Relationships, of all kinds, are so tough and I think they are more defined by the lows then the highs. Theres no bigger gesture then showing someone “I know this life is going to be insane at times, let’s stick together through this madness”
Same Sun: Most of my early days I thought that constant movement would “fix” my issues. Fixing internal issues with external solutions. I would travel a lot, try and outrun things that I just needed to deal with head-on. Eventually you kinda realize that no matter where you go, you’re coming with you haha. Some things just need to be resolved in quiet.
Close To Home: We did 10 days living in a Westfalia van around Vancouver Island and made a fun video of our trip, this is the song I wrote for that video. I didn’t plan this one at all it just kind of happened. I went into the studio did 2-3 takes and that was it, it felt flowy and we didn’t really think about it too much. To this day, this instrumental reminds me of that beautiful 10 days. Also, my phone broke on day 1 of the trip so I was fully in it haha - priceless
Sundays: In 2021 my girlfriend and I decided to do exactly what we wanted each Sunday. Long bike rides, swimming in the lake, eating an insane amount of sourdough and farmers market food… I wanted to write a song that felt exactly like those lazy Sundays we had. I came up with that main riff and knew that was it.
Again: When I was ~20 and in university someone asked a group of 4 of us “What would you do if you had a year off with a bit of money and couldn’t work? Had to do something out of passion”. None of my friends had an answer and that scared me. How could our passions be so distant already, at age 20? We are sold on the idea that we can get back to our “passions” after 40 years of working a job we dislike… I don’t think it works like that. We will see.
You Were Right: RUFUS Du Sol was one of my favourite artists for most of my 20’s. I always wanted to hear someone do a RUFUS cover fully acoustic but couldn’t find any. One day, after recording two of my own songs, I convinced the producer to let me just try this idea… he wasn’t fully sold but trusted me. We did two takes, with no metronome just off the cuff. It ended up being one of my favourite songs we recorded that week.

Today, we are spotlighting an artist that I am personally very excited about: Ryan Harris. I've had the pleasure of meeting Ryan earlier this year, and I am incredibly impressed with both his music and his professional approach. Not only is Ryan a talented musician, he's also a videographer and his visual art has added another layer of depth to his music. Just imagine having this lake near you ... His songs have this laid-back vibe that just pulls you in. The way his smooth vocals intertwine with the guitar creates this wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. His thoughtful approach to lyrics resonates deeply with many of our own life experiences. His songs are about life's journeys, the pursuit of happiness, the struggles of relationships, the bittersweet taste of nostalgia, and the push and pull of our personal ambitions. For instance, 'My Mind' is a song about finding where you belong but resisting it due to the wonder of what else life may hold. 'Gone (Away)' serves as a reminder to appreciate the present moment instead of worrying too much about the future. 'Far From Home' encapsulates the thrill and momentum of experiencing something new. 'Alone (Reprised)' is a testament to the importance of togetherness during life's toughest times. 'Same Sun' is a realization that running away from our problems is not the solution, rather we need to face them head-on. 'Close To Home' is a spontaneous tune that was born out of an adventurous 10-day trip around Vancouver Island. 'Sundays' is an ode to the blissful laziness of Sundays spent indulging in life's simple pleasures. 'Again' is a reflection on how we sometimes lose sight of our passions in the hustle of life. 'You Were Right' is a unique acoustic cover of RUFUS Du Sol, revealing Ryan's appreciation for other artists and his ability to make a song uniquely his own. We wanted to share Ryan's work with you all because we believe that his music is truly something special. Thank you so much APEIRON 🙏🏻 For some more context, when APEIRON asked me to do a spotlight I wanted to film the background video at the lake by my house which is also the place where I wrote a lot of these songs.
