Ryan Howard Gets Ejected, Roy Oswalt Comes in to Play Left Field

In a 2010 regular season extra innings game, Ryan Howard was ejected by the 3rd base umpire Scott Barry. The Phillies had already used all of their bench players, so they had to play a pitcher in the field. Left fielder Raul Ibanez switched to first base, and the Phillies brought in pitcher Roy Oswalt to play left field. This was all against Oswalt's former team, the Astros, who had traded him to the Phillies less than a month before. I do not own this clip.

If Oswalt had homered it would have been one of the most insane game endings in history. Still great, though.

Ehh it was borderline, those calls go either way. Howard was mad at himself for biting on that low and away shit like he always did. Scott Barry is a clown.
@brianemerich2524
@brianemerich2524 3 года назад
1st swing was a check, 2nd was not even that close but it wouldn't have mattered because the ump would have made the call either way based on the idiotic way he reacted to howard on the 1st blown call. main reason that to this day i don't understand how a check swing is not reviewable when its one of the easiest things to review. these base umps just guess 90% of the time on a check swing, hell they can barely call fair or foul right. the games too fast for them.

There’s something about the Phillies and their pitchers in left. Oswalt did it and so did Vince Velazquez, who actually made some gold glove caliber plays out there.

Come on !!!! That umpire , whoever he is, egged the player on with his bullshit trying to stare the player down like some tough guy. One, the call was bad, and two, it was the third base ump who started the showdown, and kept it up. That jerk should not be an umpire.
@mikeaudette2823
@mikeaudette2823 4 года назад
Absolutely right! The umpire lost his objectivity and deliberately tried to provoke Howard. The moment he mocked the player by putting his hands on his hips, the umpire was wrong. The dirty look he was giving the batter was unprofessional. I don't know how it went down afterwards, but the ump should have at least had a formal reprimand placed on his record (which would kill his chances of getting a postseason gig). He also should have been fined by the league. Scott Barry clearly lacked the temperament to be a major league umpire.
@jbreezy101
@jbreezy101 Год назад
Yeah Scott Barry is now a full-fledged Major League umpire. I still don't have a lot of respect for him but I'm sure well he certainly seems took me a bit immaturity since that game. He showed genuine concern for his fellow umpires really genuine concern There's a video somewhere. The main thing is accountability with umpires We don't see a lot of that these days not accountable themselves in the league does not even tell them if they've been fined or not and I hope that Scott Barry was fined for this.

Man it some not that many pitchers that can swing a decent bat with some pop up to perhaps college I can't say nowdays a player pitcher would start the game at first base bat cleanup pitch the last ending and start the next day.Hey that's hard ball unlike football and basketball come /go once you leave the game that's it your night over I've infielders pitch when all the pitcher been used a major league manager have some tough decisions at times ,that ump got just what he wanted an excuse to send Howard to the showers.
