wow ..balance speed and power..i dont know about any1 else but he is exactly what i would create if i could design a running back for my team- great video
Nice Video! Props to you for making it so well... and Ryan Mathews is hands down the best runningback coming into this years draft..I dont care if he ends up getting drafted in the late 2nd round he will have a solid NFL career.!
this is the running back i wanted for the chargers and now we got him, mathews has a tremendous upside, he is going to be a great running back for a long time, welcome to the Chargers
Such a badass well rounded runner. How could anyone knock him.He put up 220 plus yards against #4 ranked boise state. Somebody commented his speed he ran a 4.45 40 at 220 lbs! Coming through traffic he has natural instinct to cover the ball watch 1:06! He so young, Chargers going to get more football out of him. He should be a senior. Can you imagine what kind of numbers he would have put up as a senior.
Dude is strong. He's either breaking tackles til he's run out of bounds, breakin tackles to break it loose for a touchdown, or layin his head and shoulders down and running you over. Watch again if you didn't notice. Also, he has a killer stiff arm
This guy will definitely make an impact this year. Another RB stud for the Chargers. The right timing for them, a future hall of famer was let go in LT, and now here comes a star in the making.
I'm a Raiders fan and I'm from Fresno and I used to watch Ryan Mathews play at Fresno State, so not all Raiders fans dislike Ryan Mathews he's a Stud, but plays for a weak o-line, that can't block if their lives depended on it! Just give him another year or two and he'll be a great running back, if that line stays healthy and holds up well enough to let Ryan Mathews Shine!
Ryan, congratulations on being selected by the San Diego Chargers in the 2010 NFL Draft. I know that you are excited and looking forward to August when you enter Qualcomm Stadium for the first time to host...Da Bears. Hey, at least you didn't have to go far to your next job. Best of luck and peace out.
Everytime they played a decent D they're always behind in this highlight, he really was the ONLY threat on this team. granted a Heisman threat, but none the less, the only threat. Beast right here though, SD will love him
this guy reads and is through the hole faster than anyone in the draft by far. a little concerned by the strength of opponents for fresno state but they did say the same thing about LT
As long as he stays healthy I think he'll be a great addition. Fortunately for him there isn't as much pressure on him as some people are implying. Last year LT had truly declined and the Chargers running game was really weak and they still ended really strong in the regular season. I just hope for the Chargers sakes that they address some of their defensive issues with the rest of the draft, particularly the D line.
I know, I just haven't seen a small back with the ability to drop a limp shoulder/absorb would be tacklers like Sanders did until I started watching tape of Best. In all honesty I believe he has something that the NFL has not seen in a back in years.
I love his highlight film. It isn't just hitting a wide open hole and out running everyone. He runs through, around, and over multiple tacklers and then outruns everyone. Something he'll have to do in SD because that line can't open up holes for shit.
They just interviewed him on xx1090 and he said he wouldn't wear #21 as he did at Fresno. Hope the chargers made a good choice... though this guy has had some injuries...best of luck chargers.
He reminds me of a faster, but not as physical version of Ronnie Brown. He has excellent patience and incredible vision. He can set up blocks and hit's it with great acceleration and speed.
I just dropped this goon for Tashard Choice. What a beautiful 1st round investment this year in RM24! Thank goodness for Arian Foster and Philip Rivers this season. If I ever see Ryan Mathews, I'm going to ask him to pay me $100.00 for his wasted talents. Maybe next year someone will be suckered into drafting you. Just not me.
Wow, is this the 2nd coming of LT or what? This guy can catch, run, cut back, looks like a homerun type runner too(he knows how to score). If he turns out to be an LT clone or better, wow, I'd say the Bolts got it right again. For some reason, they always score some good RB's (Natrone Means, Michael Turner, LT, Sproles, now Matthews). We'll see, but can't wait for the season to start already. I wish it was September already!!
I think Swaping 2nd round picks with the seahawks was a very smart move by the bolts I can easily see Mathews falling on the chargers lap in round 2. Damn I was hoping he would somehow drop to the Texans in the 2nd round.
he lookz pretty beast...statz are on point...good vison, cutz and knowz when to put the burnerz on...one thing that standz out alot are no fumblez in college...thatz off the khain...hope he komez thru for us...(wat a coincidence number he sport'n in college)...
Big shoes to fill!! Go Ryan!! LOOK OUT AFC. Here come the chargers!! One or 2 good picks in the drift and this time is going only farther into the playoff!! Go Chargers Go!!!! San Diego Super Chargers!!!!!!
You know what I like most about Fresno State...it's fuckin Pat Hill man. I've been to so many Bulldog games. He freakin runs down the sideline everytime a running back breaks it. Seen him do that with Wright, Sumlin, Mathis and Matthews. That coach is so fiery!! I bet he lost a lot of weight last year with Matthews there. lol!!
Why did the Chargers feel they had to move up that far for Mathews? According to one league source, San Diego was convinced the No. 15 Giants were all over Mathews and ready to pounce. You can argue the Chargers might have given up too much to climb the 16 spots, but I say it's a luxury the stunning Whitehurst trade afforded them.
As a charger fan, im pretty confident in these RB's in the draft... Spiller will be gone early Even if Mathews gets taken before 28th, we'll have Best who is a hell of a back, but i would be kinda scared about injuries and stuff like that
@chargerblue2 they played boise state,winsconsin..and cinci....and if u look at the stats those were his some of his best games.......he know how to get up in play at another level is wat that shows he should do the same in the NFL
@veilz2 Yep. I live in a Suburb of Sac. I hate the raiders but I like the San Fran 49ers. But this guy is a great prospect to see if he can live up to what LT did in SD.
Too bad they didn't show the end of the New Mexico bowl highlights where they gave the ball the Mathews 4 times in a row at the 1 and he could not get in.... plus he is injury prone. He is a beast when he is healthy though, no doubt!
@cfischer25 I agree with you on Cromartie, although his athleticism was amazing, his heart for the game was/is bad, in most plays it felt like he wasn't on the field
Blount was running behind the most inexperienced O-line in D-1 football on that hideous blue turf. but he's a 240lb back with 4.5 speed...that's why the pro's love him. these guys are completely different types. Matthews ran a 4.45 right? that's pretty good for a 220lb guy Matthews looks like a star though. both are great prospects
He is a hell of a player and i think he is going to do good in the N.F.L.. but I would like it more if he protected the ball. Because if he carries it with one arm he is going to get stripped alot in the League..
So many uninformed bandwagoners posting on this thread. Anyway... Welcome to the San Deigo Chargers Mr. Mathews, I look forward to seeing you play with the rest of the squad.
DK, his a great runner I think he is the best rb in this years draft I would pick him over spiller. And we could trade up to get him But I would like to keep all our picks.
Along with Sproles in the backfield, can't touch this! Allowing Rivers to have more time in the pocket, keeping the Defense on the edge. Let's Go Chargers!
I already mentioned K. Wilson as an option. I would love E. Thomas but he will probably gone by pick 20. We can get a decent corner in the second. Maybe Patrick Robinson.
i love how he personally owned boise i hate boise every year they are like oh we are so good but their schedule is always ridiculously easy their schedule was a joke only good team was oregon and they beat em when oregon was losing all over the place not when they started winning, but anyway this guy dominates
@matilack Haha totally agree with you man and i'm a texans fan just have Slaton lose 20 lbs so he can play at the same weight he did when he was a rookie and go back to being elusive and quick as hell but honestly i want taylor mays that guys an athletic freak thats the whole reason we drafted Mario and he turned out to be a monster imagine being a running back having to take the ball and run at Mays, Cushing, Demeco, and Polard that would suck
@gameboydude98 Jacob Hester already has that number every number in the 20's in gone beside 21. 20-Antoine Cason 22-Jacob Hester 23-Quentin Jammer 24-Dante Hughes 25-Kevin Ellison 26-Brandon Highes 27-Paul Oliver 28-Steve Gregory 29-Marcus Mason and 30 and 31 are taken by strickland and vasher so my guess is he will be 34 or something like that
