They made an example out of him for two reasons I believe: 1. He was a career criminal with no signs of improvement (quite the opposite) so putting him away for life is best for society as a whole. 2. They made sure to give him an extreme sentence in order to deter anyone from even thinking of doing anything remotely similar, since something like that can end up costing lots of lives. That being said, sentences for murder are a slap on ghe wrist at times, it's definitely something to be improved

The fact that didn't happen here says to me that the judge really wanted to put this guy in his place, and probably told the DA's office to pursue all charges. This suspect was a repeated felon while Don King, correct me if I’m wrong, was a first time offender more or less. The first homicide was ruled a justifiable homicide as Don King was allegedly being robbed by the victim. He was found guilty of the murder of the second person but was given a pardon by the governor, otherwise his sentence would have likely been much longer. Again, this may be an injustice, but there are different deciding factors that determine one’s sentence. This suspect did not have political influence, was a repeated felon, and had multiple other charges in addition to the tempt murder. I don’t know all of the facts but I do not believe Don King got what he deserved, but I do believe the man in this video did.
