We all have that 'high note' in us!Sometimes a little reminder from a teacher,a mentor(?) is all that we need. May we listen and act on those reminders;may we be mentors and teachers bringing the 'high notes' out in others.
Actually it wasn't him who decided that! The directors told him to do it since hey knew he could hit a high note, but everyone else was clueless so that was their genuine reaction! 😁
I was in the hospital with COVID and I kept listening to this song while I was laying on bed by my self with no one to talk to. I was un oxygen and I couldn’t breathe for 7 days but all I have to says is GOD is good I’m home today without oxygen.
@@King_drew Yeah, I feel like church singers are the most talented grounded singers. I haven't seen many church singers that didn't have a crazy range and the soul and emotion are always there.
Ryan Toby practiced singing Mariah Carey's songs and could hit whistle register notes. The high note in this song is an E6. The director knew about it, but the rest of the cast did not. It was planned for him to do that so they could get a genuine reaction out of everyone. Not only did Whoopi get taken by surprise, but look at the girl behind her. She suddenly snapped her head around and started smiling from ear to ear. The audience was genuinely moved by that note. Golden!
@kimberleyfulton3616 Allow me to join you and others, Kimberly! I'm 68 and can still remember when I watched the "Sister Act 2" for the first time. The voice that rose up through that young boy, Ryan Toby, when he sang "Oh Happy Day" to the highest note as chills ran up from my feet and through my body, spine and above my head! And it still does every time I watch that segment! I share this song with my friends to cheer them up. Take care. Love Peace Joy! 🕊️💕🌹 P.S. It reminds me every time when I was invited by a coworker to attend his Southern Baptist Church in South Carolina. I went and sang while dancing my feet away with the entire congregation! What a feeling! It was an "Oh Happy Day" moment!!
I haven’t got a religious bone in my body, but love sister act , still can’t believe people think they are singing this live in film you sing in the studio, this is play back (Lip Sync) but they do it well.
why tf are there many people saying this movie is "most underrated movie ever"? so many people knew this movie and loved it, gave their fair share of ratings, underrated means that no one knows this movie existed at all because it's buried under other movie's popularity in which isn't the case with this movie at all, stop underrating this movie by yourself and called it so
@@EXPATXPLORER Nope, this is great acting (maybe - re-enacting fresh genuine experience). While there is some chance that Toby Ryan really improvised hitting high note and shocked the present staff in one of takes - there's no chance that the crew would in advance have several cameras completely out of view of each other and ready to film several genuinely unexpected events (Toby's note and Whoopy's and spectators' reactions) almost simultaneously in completely different directions.
if you haven’t heard an good news in a while here you go!⬇️ In the very beginning of time God created all & it was good, His plan was to have Him & His creation(humans) live in utopia. the satan deceived God’s creation so that wouldn’t happen, we choose evil. Evil has its consequences, death is the consequence for disobeying an everlasting God. God doesn’t want that for any of His creation so He sent His Son Jesus(God in the flesh) & Jesus lived the perfect life. Died the death as a criminal, & resurrected, all so that we could have eternal life if we have faith in that sacrifice. Have an amazing life!😁
I haven’t gone to church in 12 years. I haven’t prayed in many months, I have lost faith if I’m honest with my depression and loss of hope in things, but I’ve gotta say: this song makes me really happy when listening to it. Something about it just makes me dance and smile... makes me want to believe and praise again.
Deus te ama tanto, nem imaginas o que ele fará por ti e poderás testemunhar para o mundo todo. Fala com ele, ele pode te ouvir. Não desanime jamais. Acredita.
It is the name of Jesus being sung that makes this song so emotional and uplifting. Ask Jesus for your healing, it is freely available to all who believe in Him and ask ❤

The thing that I love most about this performance is seeing Ryan Toby's character slowly gain more confidence in himself, doing what he was born to do!
I've seen this movie dozens of times. I hit rewind at least 3 times EVERY. SINGLE. TIME because of that whistle note and Whoopi's reaction. You can tell she and everyone else were shocked, astonished and totally caught off guard by it. Love his voice!

I love the look on the monk's face, the dude is such a hardass but this is the first time he can't help himself, it looks like "God that was frickin' awesome."
I am now older, but I remember watching this as a kid, and getting filled with tears in my eyes of joy and worship little did I know the Lord was calling me to be a true worshiper. Worship in the spirit and in truth hallelujah king Jesus.
The anniversary tribute they just did just made me happy. This was 1 of my favorite movies as a kid. Idk how many times I watch exactly part. 😂💪🏾❤️. ThatBrought bck good memories 🥺.
Mr. Ryan Toby you are so very, very talented. I loved watching you sing Oh Happy Day! You can sing! Can't wait to see you in Sister Act 4! God bless you!🙏💜
@@isaiahbakombo8603 how has he been faithful. He’s given us fucking Covid and ruined our lives for over a year and killed millions. If god existed he wouldn’t cause such suffering so fuck off with your praise the lord
@@Kj_Gamer2614 wow someone really felt the need to like their own comment there, I mean you probably made the right call, it's not like anyone else would.
The famed high note performed by Ryan Toby (Ahmal) during the "Oh, Happy Day" song is an E natural high, one of the highest and toughest notes to hit for singers and vocalists. Toby was sixteen years old during the shooting of this movie. that note always gives me goosebumps
That part wasn’t in the script that’s why. It was a real reaction that’s how much he was feeling the song He wrote songs for many artists after and became a singer for a little bit as well
That song always make me feel quite emotional. I was once a semi-professional singer, and wasn't sure of my own worth. The first time I sang in public on my own I was very quiet, like he was, then, as my confidence grew, I started to really belt out songs, and I had a powerful voice back then, considering I was only little, but I had good lung power. Sad to say, I'm now 73 years old, and time has taken a toll on my voice, so I can no longer belt out a song.
I now understand the PRECISE MEANING of this song, and today June 19,2024 proved no different. 😊God is powerful!! Never doubt His Might nor His Wrath. Amen😊😊😊🎉
PEU IMPORTE SE QUE JE VIT DE DIFFICILE DANS MA VIE ... QUAND J'ÉCOUTE CETTE CHANSON LÀ ELLE ME REMONTE TOUJOURS LE MORAL ...MON COEUR SE REPLIT DE JOIE ET IL SOURIT COMME JAMAIS !!!! AS ME FAIT TOUJOURS UN BIEN FOU ! MERCI SISTER'S ACT 2
The feeling of wanting to praise God is the holy spirit within you! Celebrate Gods goodness you dont have to be religious, when you accept that youre a sinner and accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, you already receive his amazing grace🙏🏻
You can tell Whoopi was genuinely shocked at that high note because she says "Wow" at 3:04. I am just seeing this reaction after watching this movie 10000 times lol
It was very beautiful seeing all them together. BUTTTT… babyyyyy had Toby hit that note I would have straight fell out my chair 😂😂😂😂😂He was still great
I'm not religious, but this song still gives me goosebumps and sometimes I can't help but sing along. This movie will always have a special place in my heart.
The funny thing is all them reactions from everyone even the audience was REAL him hitting that High note was not in the script lol he did that on his own an everyone was like WOAH !
I song this when I was Junior High school student. It was big experience for me. It gave me tips about pronounce of English and skill of singing. This song is still the engine that makes dreams come true!!
*I put this comment here, so that when anyone likes it, I will be reminded of how God has restored me, turned my shame into fame, and replaced my tears with joy. I never want to forget for a moment how good God is to me , this song does something to my soul😭😢*
I loved this movie as a kid and I’ve seen it literally hundreds of times. Now that I’m grown and a Christian who understands how Jesus washed my sins, the lyrics just hit different now. Same for Joyful Joyful. This classic film will forever be a fave ❤. Shout out to the cast for killin it!
STILL, almost 30 years LATER, this is one of my - if not THE SINGLE MOST - favorite songs/choral arrangements from a movie of ALL TIME!!! I still can't believe the beauty, power, and raw giftedness & talent of a mere 14 year old Ryan Toby. #VocalBrilliance #ChefsKissMagnificado
The student group had quite a few talented singers in it. Of course Lauren Hill, but also Tanya Blount, Valeria Andrews (who sings Pay Attention with Ryan Toby on the soundtrack, "If you wanna be somebody, If you wanna go somewhere.....") and Dee Dee Magno, who was from MMC and later group The Party, to name a couple.
I have no affiliation with the mainstream media so yes, really.🙂 I’m not really religious but one of my other favourites is Leonard Cohen singing alleluia. REALLY, powerful and moving.
