I would not cut more than one of the D Rings off. Just in case you need to lock it to the bike.

Because I had little room on the strap loop, I cut the D rings off first and, with needle-nose pliers, installed the quick release in less than 5 minutes. The quick release is going to make wearing my half helmet a LOT easier. Thx for the vid.

Seriously, looking close at the attachment clip that goes on the D-ring loop I personally would not trust it.....even the picture in the link you provided on Amazon looks like they just chewed the opening with a file or something. The D-ring is a complete loop encasing the reinforced nylon strap......this thing is just two 90% angles on a clip. What kind of metal is the clip, will it stand up? Has this been tested by any authority on the stresses that happen in an actual crash? May be more convenient but not sure it's safe when really needed. D-rings have been around for 50-years because they work, and once used a few times become second nature to strap up. Takes maybe 5-seconds to strap up a D-ring? So what time does this save?

Buy it directly from Rydewear website, you get free shipping and don't have to pay tax. I had no issue installing it on my Shoei helmet. Great item!!!!

Bought and installed it. Gasket picks made the job go much faster. Put one end of the buckle in and then reached the gasket pick through the d ring loop to pull it in to fit. Fits great and its so much easier than fishing the strap through the d rings . Now I have a consistent helmet fit.

Looks like a quality piece. Currently have the inexpensive ABS plastic style on my half helmet, but likely not as strong. One benefit of quick release vs D rings is you can attach/detach with gloves on.

I was able to install this same buckle in under 10 minutes on my BILT helmet and it works perfectly.

I put it on a Schuberth helmet, yes the first part is the toughest. I used a small flat head screwdriver to avoid as much slippage as your phillips, and managed not to slip and rip myself :) The D rings tucked away in a retaining strap so they are out of the way forever without having to remove them. Thanks for guiding me through the install.

I have an is-max 2 and it took all of 10 minutes if that long. It took longer to find my needlenose plyers to pop the buttons off than it took to put the whole thing together. I have no plans of locking my helmet on my bike, so I clipped the D-rings off with a couple of wire clippers (Side Cutters). Was a good purchase.

I've used a different brand on my helmets for several years. They do the job and make things much quicker than using D rings. The RydeWear buckle appears to have a better male/female connection design compared to my buckles which can easily jam if you aren't careful. Think I'll give the RydeWear buckle a try. Thanks Cruiseman.

Vance Ruka - they do have a better connection. You’ll love it.

Two points: 1. if you don't want to remove your snap and you have enough room, you can double-back the strap with the snap and feed the doubled-back strap through the male end. 2. I put my female buckle _over_ the D-rings (I've tried it both ways)... it feels the same either way, but when put over the D-rings it hides the D-rings for a better look and also keeps them out of the way.

I just installed the RydeWear Quick Release on my Nolan full face helmet. It was a bit of a struggle, but I ended up using small needle nose pliers with long thin jaws that I had in a Blue Point set. I went to the needle nose pliers after struggling with it for about a half hour. I ended up getting it all jammed in place with the pliers in less than ten minutes. Really like the way it fits the loop after you do get it installed. I left the D rings on so I could still use this helmet as a backup or passenger helmet when I buy a new helmet and move the Rydewear buckle to the new one. I really like it so far. No plastic and easy to operate.

Just remember, the harder the strap is to get in, the harder it will be to come out while riding. ;)

I too have this buckle. I’ve been using it for a little over 3 months. I do like it but I agree with you it was a bear to get it put together and I ordered the right one.

Shoei Neotech comes with a ratchet QR. IDK - watching the installation of this buckle makes me wonder what's so difficult about working a D-ring!

looks a decent product. I do think a removable steel mounting pin to thread through your existing strap would have made it much easier to fit

I did not read all the comments, so this comment may have already been made. Look at the The Helmet Shop, Ratcheted Metal to Metal Helmet Clip. It is a helmet quick release buckle that, to my opinion, is high quality and easy to install. It looks identical to the Shoei helmet release buckle. I just installed one on my Bell helmet and I am well pleased.

I’ve used a different brand for years and never had to remove the snap or d-rings. The main thing is to get one with a metal connection. My Neotec II came with a ratchet strap.

The 1st Mistake is Installing the buckle - where the D rings are Over it. The D - rings are UnDeR the buckle. & Rest on the flap of fabric/strap attached to helmet. The rings don't Touch your Skin.

I dont like the split thing I would much rather they provide a spindle sort of like how conventional watch bands are secured....except not the spring loaded weak watch pins but instead threaded pins with locking in threads

@rydewearmotorcycledirtbike6754
Yeah you ordered the wrong style for your helmet you needed the regular style not the beanie that's more for half shell helmets that have a lot of space on the fabric loop holding your D-Rings on meaning you can fit your pinky finger in that loop with your D-Rings. You needed the regular style which would have taken a few minutes start to finish. Thanks for the video
