this was/is one of,if not the most ambitious game of its era. level and enemy design unlike any other game that actually gave individual characteristics to each and combined them flawlessly. power ups that did not fade away,except upon death,and these same power ups changed gameplay. significantly changed game play. for instance: without the jaguar's head(pouncing)you would actually be able to ride some creatures to that particular level's end. weapon enhancement thru directional control! highly underrated game. with hidden secrets & mechanics....
also the detail that the hitbox of some enemies doesn't match with them sprites, so they can touch you without kill you (e.g. the head of the "buffalos", the "minotaurs" when they are hooked to a "dragon" and where they are riding those giant rhinos, the tip of the giant toads's tongue at the levels where you have to climb a rope, the undead monster (that monster that appears when the time is out), also I think that when you are in the branch of a tree, those fire balls that come out of the holes in the ground, can't touch you)
Always fun to watch someone do things with a game that you've not seen before. And what a game -- music was perfect, bonus point land maybe the best of any game of this era.

This is NOT HARDEST difficulty (called Difficult 3 on the arcade PCB and Hardest in MAME), it is played on HARD difficulty (called Difficult 2 on the arcade PCB and Hard in MAME). I know this due to the speed of the enemies and their behaviour on each round. From round 10 the enemies (especially ground crawlers) move much faster than in this video. This is also on the Japanese version (Arugosu no Senshi) which has extra life on the log bridge on round 14 which is not in Rygar worldwide version. It is excellent gameplay though! :)

I remember Bonus Point 10.000 in the temple entrance, This is done by matching the numbers of your score with one of the time, an example is: Score: 19652[1]63 and for the time: 09[1]:13 and Keep the joystick in the left-down position together until mark them when entering, My Hi Score was 6.500000 (6.5 Million), something new that I learned in this gameplay is to break the stone on the left of the screen and grab the item when walking to the right, I do not know if in all the versions you can do it. very good
As principais dicas estão abaixo. - O ponto de interrogação é o campo de força (cruz), é preciso atirar nele até aparecer e tenha todos os escudos e ganhe 160 mil. - Os macacos que ficam um em cima do outro (a partir da 2 tela) se pegar todos ganha 10.000. (encoste quase neles e dê um tiro pra frente e os outros para o alto para ganhar os pontos). - Se pular na cabeça do gigante azul com o tigre ganha 50.000. O tigre só não deixa pegar carona no morcego, caso queira. - Na Parte 12 (tela do 1 milhão ) , há ocas (escondidas ou não) com muitas estrelas; após a 2º árvore podre há 4 estrelas escondidas no céu (a 4º está em cima da oca no galho da árvore), atire para o alto para achar, já na 3º árvore atire para cima e ache a 5º estrela, após a 3º árvore há a 6º estrela no céu e ao lado dela há a bandeira do 1 milhão, atire algumas vezes que vai fazendo barulho até ela cair em cima de você e você ganha esses pontos. (OBS: volte, suba pegue a estrela da árvore e a que está em cima do galho, e continue o jogo, não dá para pegar todas, mas é preciso atirar nelas para ganhar mais 70 mil). - Na tela 21 e 22 há monstros dentro da água que pula em você. - O último campo de força, na tela 25, só tem 10 segundos (pegue e corra para passar por aquelas bolas de fogo que sobe do buraco sem se queimar, assim não perde tempo) - Na Tela final há 2 guerreiros azuis um ao lado do outro e quando entrar na casa do mostro entre direto até ele pular por cima de você atire nele, ele pulará de volta, volte levemente e atire de volta que ele morre, ou entre direto e abaixe quando ele pular e fique abaixado, quando ele pular de volta, você pula na cabeça dele que mata (mas, nesse caso, se tiver o tigre). Etc. Para ganhar 10.000 pontos quando entrar na casa. No PLAYER1, o número abaixo da letra “E” tem que ser o mesmo representado nos segundos. Exemplo: 35830 então o tempo precisa ser XX8:XX segundos. Então entre na casa, depois você move o joystick para baixo e para a esquerda na diagonal. Faça isso, pelo menos, antes da noite para ficar mais fácil.

Cara parabéns vc joga muito ; tenho esse arcade com o PCB original americano em um gabinete restaurado ; no estagio 13 faltou vc pegar a quela primeira estrela que fica no alto próximo a bandeira escondida ; so consigo pegar ela pegando impulsor em cima do cara de tomate apos o tempo acabar ; não sei se vc pega assim também ; na época eram poucos que conseguia o negocio é desafiador pegar aquela estrela
Sólo los veteranos conocemos el truco de coincidencia de números (10.000 puntos) en la entrada de cada templo, coincidiendo el tercer número del final del puntaje hacía atrás (de derecha a izquierda) y el tercer número del tiempo hacía adelante (de izquierda a derecha) después mientras entras colocar el Análogo/Joystick hacía la diagonal izquierda/abajo y suenan los 10.000 de bonus.
@@nanutdellamico Cuando niño eran horas y horas en grupo jugando a Rygar, se merece un Remake pero sin cambiar su formato. Si no sus gráficos y efectos, lo demás está perfecto.👌
I saw the title of 7million and i couldnt believe it...tho you did it and dam did you know where everything was..Very greedy when the devil came out jumping him so many times and level 17 where u stayed on and got almost 2 m on the one stage.The speed seemed a lil bit slower tho but gosh you are my competition

This game seems to have had a very strong impact in Pakistan as the world record holder is from your country. I mailed with him some years ago. When I saw his recordings, avoiding Death in particular, I gave up trying to reach just 6 Million... Fantastic game, hard, but a real e-sport game.
They have released a pretty much perfect copy of this on the Switch with a worldwide high score table. I’m in the top 10 with about 4 million. So pretty good (1CC) but nowhere near this score!
I was very good at this game in my youth, I will never understand why until now TECMO has not done a remake in 2.5D with all the tricks and original game form, it was a bomb in 1986 and it would be again if they use the current technology, but instead of a remake they made a horrible game called Rygar for PS2 Yo era muy bueno en este juego en mi juventud, jamas voy a comprender por que hasta la fecha TECMO no a hecho un remake en 2.5D con todos los trucos y forma de juego original, fue una bomba en 1986 y lo volvería a ser si emplean la tecnología actual, pero en vez de un remake hicieron un juego horrible llamado Rygar para PS2
