Ryobi 40-Volt HP Brushless Earth Auger with 8" Dirt Bit Review | Fence Post Machine!

Check Out The Ryobi 40-Volt HP Brushless Earth Auger with 8" Dirt Bit - www.homedepot....
--------------------------------------------------------
If you are one of those people who have wrote-off the RYOBI 40-Volt tools, you might want to reconsider. With a brand shake-up at The Home Depot, RYOBI has come out swinging with some new outdoor power equipment tools that are really spectacular. This auger is one of those tools that is very impressive.
I wish this tool would have shipped with the new 6.0Ah battery, but the 4.0Ah that comes with it was more than enough power to throw me around in some heavy and semi-frozen ground. This auger is a real machine!

That’s wild. I have my eye on this thing. Recently discovered that a one man auger exists and it changed the game in my handyman business when digging fence post holes. The fact that this is battery powered, no gas is next level.

I bought one last night based on your review. Was going to go buy a cheap gas one, but I already have several 40v tools so this was a perfect fit. Did some test holes and it perfoormed just as you described. I am happy with it. After military discount was $296 at HD.

It seems like TTI finally figured out that Ryobi was out selling Ridgid probably 10 to 1 and put some real thought into the Ryobi line of tools. I would love to look at the transmission on this auger to see what kind of metal is in there. Kudos to Ryobi.....never thought I would say that. Ok , Miltakemymoney.......where the one for us milwaukee guys ? Great vid as always.

In Australia they are introducing this model now too (as special order at this point), but it is known as 36v with a 200mm auger though. ;) Also, TTI have brought it to their AEG 18v line as well (2 x 18v batteries) with a 250mm auger. AEG in Australia is basically the same as Ridgid in the USA though there can be differences to suit the Australian market, both in their Ryobi & AEG lines. TTI haven't brought it to their Milwaukee line though.

I'm so glad you pointed out the fact that the 6Ah battery makes it more powerful. I just ordered the kit that comes with the 6Ah battery, so I'm glad I didn't get the 4Ah. Some may not realize this but batteries with higher capacities sometimes have higher current capabilities. In the case of the 6Ah battery here, it has more groups of cells wired in parallel, so it can provide the motor with more current, and more current means more power. They should have advertised this because it would promote the sale of their higher capacity batteries. I wonder if the 8Ah battery will make it even mower powerful.

I bought this post hole digger to put in a fence too, and I totally agree with your comment, it really works well. But I also have the Ryobi 40 V chain saw, and I've been extremely pleased with it as well. I've had absolutely no problems with it other than replacing a few chains (my fault), and I've quickly cut many trees into boards and firewood, etc. My gas chainsaw(s) were always temperamental and hard to start, but the 40V battery changes all that, and makes it so easy! The only thing I don't like about my Ryobi chainsaw is that you can't stop the oil from slowly seeping out the oiling reservoir during storage, unless you empty it first. So keeping a rag under it isolates the mess, but it's still just a small inconvenience for how well my saw performs. You didn't say which Ryobi chainsaw you thought was a dud...they make both gas and battery powered, but I love my 40V saw, because it's always performed very well for me.

I use the Makita 36v right angle drill with an auger bit that fits a 1/2 chuck. It's got plenty of power and it's lot more versatile than a dedicate post hole auger. I think the post hole digger that Makita recently came out with is actually just the right angle drill with some added hardware that makes it easier to handle the torque.

@DanielRichards644
@DanielRichards644 3 года назад
yeah that was my second clue this guy doesn't appear to know what he's doing, the first one is how he just keeps jamming it in trying to get deeper till it sticks and he has to reverse out, you really should stop spinning and lift it out to clear the dirt every so often.
@JustEnjoyingLife73
@JustEnjoyingLife73 Год назад
How do you know this? The 6Ah battery is capable of providing far more current because it has more parallel groups, and it looks like he tried both batteries and is reporting actual findings. Have you tried it yourself and found it not to be the case? Some of Dewalt's tools are like this too like their 20" chainsaw that comes with the 5Ah battery (15Ah on the label). When I tried a 12Ah aftermarket battery on it, it was so much weaker to the point that I returned it because their 15Ah battery is ridiculously priced for what you're getting (I ended up buying and loving the Ego 18" so much more). One of their reciprocating saws also provides much more power if you're using the 8Ah battery. It's the DCS368 with power detect. More groups in parallel means more current, and more current means more power if the tool can pull it.
@kevinroberts781
@kevinroberts781 Год назад
@@JustEnjoyingLife73 It may stay at a higher voltage longer but the current is pretty much the same.
@JustEnjoyingLife73
@JustEnjoyingLife73 Год назад
@@kevinroberts781 the current can be much higher because the motor controller is capable of drawing it given a battery with enough current production capability. Think about it this way. Why can’t a computer ups battery start a car? It’s because it can’t provide the current the starter requires. If you take it off the engine, the starter will spin just as fast as it would with the car battery because the voltage is the same, 12V. With the Ryobi auger, it can pull far more current than the 4Ah battery can provide. When the 6Ah is inserted, it is able to provide more current just like how a car battery can to the starter. Because of this increased current, the power is increased.

You made this video just as my wife and I were planning to start planting some trees. We decided to buy, instead of rent, which will allow us a larger window of opportunity to plant and help us in years to come as we put more trees in the ground. Qucik question, do you think it could be used to till up a small area for a single tree that needs a larger area to be planted (say a 7 gallon tree)?
@WorkshopAddict
@WorkshopAddict 3 года назад
Yes, without a doubt it could be used to work the ground. It will not dig that hole, but it will work the ground. From a guy who planted 26,000 trees on his property, you need an efficient way to move this guy between holes. It does not fit on a 4 wheeler well... It would suck to lift into a gator each time. Filling the holes will be easy with your feet, but moving this will be tiring.

@zeroibis

They do not but between different batteries the actual design and cell layout changes. Unfortunately they do not label the batteries for their peak power output but this is what changes. Basically the larger batteries use a better cell layout that allows for improved power delivery resulting in better performance.
@JustEnjoyingLife73

I bought it for planting trees in my orchard, replacing those that die. The Ryobi is perfect for this task. I would not want to dig 1000 holes with it but if it was all I had then I’d dig them.

@@mhlx4019 Your for you're (or you are) an all too common spelling and grammar error. That which follows your belongs to the person you are writing to. Yes, your and you're sound the same, however when written they are completely different words, with different meanings and usages. Yes, it makes a difference. Truly I hope the above helps you.

Try that crap down south in the red clay.

I did, last night I dug two holes in red clay as a test. North Georgia, my entire yard is read clay. Worked well, although the soil here is still a little moist, but I was having a hard time using a manual post digger, the Ryobi was done in just a minute or two.

For a guy that builds fence this wouldn’t last long lol. 8” isn’t big enough a lot of times for cementing in chain link and privacy posts.

I’d prefer to see this go though some virgin illinois clay instead of a plowed field of topsoil.

Hey bud... I did drop it into the woods that is heavy clay and roots. That has not been tilled since 2006. Did you see that part? Also, as you know, you only till the top 6" of soil and the clay under was still partially frozen. I get what you are saying, to a point. I personally don't want to live in Illinois, LOL, so to get me to come there and film it would be rough. But as I said, this will not touch my tough ground when fully dry as it is hard as a rock and our large Ag equipment wont touch it. But I will put my reputation on it that this will work in your heavy clay as long as it is not dry as a rock.
