jmcrofts The music in the background *is* the M. Bison refrence. He also has a spirit sticker in game as well. Although a trophy would have been better.
so many mistakes in this video. the red fireball was an easter egg, as per @nin_arika on twitter, in the ORIGINAL street fighter II, not the "later versions." you also show super sf2's ryu stage, which is NOT what this game has. it has the stage from the world warrior. 0:48 on top of that, you showed a super nes port (super sf2), not the actual arcade game nor the correct title and a low resolution picture at that. you have a professional channel yet can't get these details correct?
Not sure if you got it but it's a stretch, the master/crazy hand was supposed to be the car level because when you hit them enough they fall allowing you you to freely attack shortly, but of course that's just a stretch of my view on it, still a really nice reference throughout his classic mode Edit: never mind scratch all that it's a reference the dramatic battle how could I have been so blind 😔
The bonus stage actually does have a little bit to make it more like Street Fighter. Almost every other character in the game had their bonus stage right before the boss, while Ryu has it in the middle of his classic mode like the bonus stage in SF2
There is even a reference in the bonus stage. Usually it shows up after Stage 6 right before the boss. In Ryu's Classic it shows up early because of the car destroying bonus.
Fun trivia about how Ryu and Ken control in Smash. Sakurai, the mastermind behind Smash, is also responsible for the Kirby franchise. In Kirby games, one copy ability that is often included is the "fighter" ability. This ability has a lot of moves, and it gave you a different move if you hold down the attack button as opposed to quickly tapping it. The outfit Kirby wears when he has the fighter ability is a red headband, and in later iterations of the fighter ability you can straight up do a hadoken with a quarter-circle forward + attack input. The fighter ability is clearly a reference to Ryu. When Ryu was put into Smash, they allowed access to a larger portion of his iconic moveset by tying to move you get to the duration you hold down the attack button. In other words, Ryu is referencing the fighter ability, which is a reference to Ryu.
ALSO! the first game to have fighter kirby do something like a hadoken was kirby and the amazing mirror, developed by Flagship, an independent company funded by Capcom!
Ryu's classic mode is good and all, but holy sh*t they did SF so much justice in World of Light with the whole reducing jump power gimmick. By far one of my favorite spirit fight types. Also Akuma's fight scares me.
Think playing that mode through with a friend (what you can do) as Ryu and ken combo The game changes some routes depending what characters are chosen but I am sure it would work.
the way you unlock ryu in world of light is even cooler because the characters have different attributes that make them more like their street fighter counterparts
also apparently fighting master hand and crazy hand is supposed to be a reference to m bison on some street fighter 2 cover art you'll probably find it if you look up the special championship edition
$60. All this care for $60. I can't understand how other games like SF5 and MK need microtransactions to make money when Smash can offer so much more with none of the nonsense. A stinkin' SF2 arcade mode at release and SF5 couldn't even give us that.
Yeah, Smash U. is one of the only Fighting Games that cost $60 but the content in said game makes sense to the cost. Most FG’s these days cost $60 for $30 worth of content
Remember, Nintendo made so much money with the WII that they could survive 30 years without making a single cent. They could afford to do what they want and take as long as they want. Smash is a success and will never get axed. Netherrealm and capcom can't. Fighting games are a dying genre, and they are under threat of being shut down if they don't make enough money for the publisher.

I only paid for the base game and the characters just like how nintendo will be paid when the smash dlc comes out....sfv is playable even if i dont buy the other costumes, i got all the stages thru Fight moneu earned in thr game....the only bad thing capcom did for sfv is the very release delay of the game and the unbalanced nerfs due to esports but they did not milk amy money from me
Bulls**t. SFV is still the most awesome fighting game (like other Street Fighters before). I like Smash, too, but it never will have the SF-deepness...
I like how you can see his street fighter experience on the game. He spends more time on the ground than on the air and keeps doing the quarter circle hadouken.
@Azure Wings mods isn't part of the conversation. And many of my friends from evo, who are into pro street fighter say the same. Heck, maximillian dood said the same, and he is a huge ken fanboy. Ken's design in sfv feels very artificial and off. Ken's design in ssbu not only looks awesome, but pays so much homage to classic street fighter. PC mods make anything better. But they aren't official. I don't use them. This is just an opinion. Don't flip off now please. It is very possible that there are people who don't like it. I do.

I asked the same question when i watched beyblade for the first time but then ken midori (known as kensuke midorikawa in the original) is now much more important for me than before, he's my favorite character by far and he's also the most well written character and the sexi... i mean cutest of the entire series... yeah i definetly meant cute... he's definetly not a husbando of mine and i'm definetly not into anime characters... hahaha what a crazy theory *sweats nervously*
In case nobody told you, World of Light has an even better love letter built into it with the Street Fighter section where you fly from area to area fighting all the opponents. They're very similar to this, but with even more special stuff added. Also, M. Bison and that one other dude are both there as battles.
Not only that. It could be a likely reference to the official artwork for SFII' Champion Edition, which depicts Vega, I mean, Bison with only his head and glowing hands visible in the background.
Never played street fighter, but it was really fun to see someone figure out all of the references and just the joy you had when you figured out who was who. Really cool!
The final battle with Ryu and Ken is a reference to the animated movie where they both fight Bison at once. It could also be a reference to the Alpha series that had things called Dramatic Battles where you could do 2 vs 1.
The bonus stage is also a reference. If you didn't notice, it happens earlier than in other fighters' classic mode (it's usually placed right before the final boss)
Great stuff man, but I think you should look into applying more pressure on your opponent when they're on the ledge. I understand the mentality of wanting to run the center of the stage to gain a neutral advantage, but having to be on the ledge is such a compromising position, and taking advantage of it can be super beneficial, especially against characters with poor recovery like Little Mac, who seemed to make you sweat a little. ZeRo, the best in the world at Smash 4, was notoriously good at edgeguarding from the ledge, such that commentators would often refer to him as "the ledge trapper". It's definitely a facet of the game that you should explore if you're trying to improve. Just my two cents.
I've seen so many people do that lately, I hadn't noticed it until recently. It's easier and faster to edgeguard and prevent recovery at all than it is to let them regain momentum and kill at a later percent. Riskier? Maybe, if you're not good at reading your opponent or knowing your character's boundaries when it comes to recovering. But it's always a good idea to beat your opponent as fast as possible.
@@drizzziit1 ...You know, disregarding the fact that this channel predominantly plays games competitively, you do know we're just trying to help him get better at the game right? And it's not super complicated advice, we're not telling him advanced tech. This is pretty fundamental. But yeah, giving someone advice to get better at the game is _totally_ going against Daddy Sakurai's dream. (Even though several design choices imply Sakurai wanted to open the game up to competitive players as well as casuals.) This really isn't the right time or place, dude.
@@Kai4life4 I am actually really sorry about that comment now that i look at it again. :/ I quite litteraly took it as one of the melee extreme type of comment and tough that it was complaining about the way Ryu custom classic mode was being played in a more casual manner without techniques and complex ledgetraps. I'll delete it actually, it's quite dumb and missed the point entirely. Sorry for being a nuisance.
So they add multiple soundtracks from games? Does that mean we gonna get the good stuff from Persona 5? Life Will Change, Last Surprise, Will Power, Beneath The Mask, etc?
Every DLC will come in a fighter pack. Wich will include: One fighter, a stage and multiple soundtracks. So since we got Joker, there will most likely be a Persona stage with Persona soundtracks!
@@arkraith4148 No clue tbh, it could literally be anything! But who knows, we might get a completely different stage from a completely different game. They never mentioned if the stages are related to the fighter. But i think it most likely will be. If you look at Smash 4: Ryu, Cloud and Bayonetta all got released with their own related stage. (You can buy them separately but my point is that they came out at the sametime.) Either way, i'm excited how Joker will be and what stage we're getting!

I was waiting for Ganondorf to be Bison, Shiek to be Ibuki, K Rool to be Honda, even the male WiiFit Trainer could be Dhalsim. I wish there could be an extended classic mode which can only be played at max difficulty just for this.
Having Ken fighting with you might be a direct reference to Street Fighter EX3. There was a multilayer option where the two could be on teams, and shown on screen simultaneously against an opponent.
Ryu's bonus stage is actually slightly a reference to Car Smashing. It's the only Classic mode where the bonus is not second to last, being in the same place as a SF single player game would have.
Ryu is my favorite character in smash, I mean his depth and potential is amazing, definitely a top tier (imo) but it’s the fact that his combos take so much practice that he is one of the most hardest fighters to be good at
Actually, Ryu is low tier as hell because he has been nerfed a lot since smash 4 and is forced to look towards the opponent and he has very low combo potential
Marky mooky he was buffed in ultimate tho. he can combo jab 2 into shoryuken now, which makes it way easier to hit confirm. he can also cancel aerials into specials which is great, especially for things like first hit of up air to shoryuken. always facing the opponent is also way better because if the opponent rolls behind you, you can just keep hitting down tilt because ryu will automatically hit him. sure they made his nair way longer so he cant do some combos anymore, but he got more buffed than nerfed imo
How is looking at your opponent a nerf? You literally can't get crossed up.... And he has mix ups for recovery, hes not little mac. Hes a bit better than in smash 4, still weak to camping, dunno why u so negative on him, hes still good, you should say that about cloud, he got more or less the same nerfs but no buffs, that made him way worse
Dude, you should see the story mode. There’s legit a whole part where you travel the world of sf2 and fight character look-alikes. Such an epic easter egg 😁
drizzziit her body language, her agility, her body structure, the slashing sound her forward air makes. While meta knight sounds better on paper, shiek just looks and feels more like vega visually.
I feel the mask is too iconic for vega I feel. It's so closely tied to his person. So I can understand choosing a masked character like Meta Knight over Sheik.
The bonus stage is in a way a reference to SF, it is earlier than other fighters representing the amount of fights you should do in SF for the car bonus stage
Bonus stage has reference... after 4 battles you go to bonus round... other classic battle has rhe bonus stage near the end. Also ken and ryu fighting M.Bison hand references the movie
They did this in World of Light too, there's a whole segment of you flying to each of the fighters' countries and fighting the characters that represent the SF characters, I think Ganondorf represented Bison.
Even though everyone has a Bonus Stage, I still feel like it was referencing the SF2 Bonus Stage the way it was placed. The Boss Fight could be a reference to Alpha's Dramatic Battle having 2 characters fight against one. Master Hand & Crazy Hand being a Combo of Sagat and Bison.
@Yodafire Boel almost like a large majority including respected SF players agree lol. the graphics and the visuals/animations were mint, but the actual game and the overall meta of the game were fucking awful and boring. Along with one of the smallest rosters EVER for a SF game the DLC was overpriced and ended up being incredibly underwhelming lol. don't be a moron. This game is 100x more refined than that with 4x the roster LOL

@Yodafire Boel I don't know too much about SFV, but you said it's the most balanced game, and then immediately said that the imbalance angers you. I can't say for sure that it's the most balanced game ever, but I can say you definitely aren't giving other games credit where credit's due
The bonus game was put in the middle of Ryu's classic mode route, rather than at the end like everyone else. That's a Street Fighter reference in itself.
There is a World tour set of Levels in adventure mode where you can fight basically all the characters you listed with M. Bison being the final character you fight before you can unlock Ryu. The World tour map is also shaped after earth you fly to different locations on the planet.
Honestly, my best advice is to watch players like ZeRo and whatnot and just watch them play. Also watch AceStarthe3rd, as he does half hour long videos or so on characters while playing online and tries to teach you the whole way through. Also watch Beefy Smash Doods, since their tutorials are pretty good. Izaw is a fantastic RU-vidr, as well, as he goes extremely in depth with characters
That final match tag team against master and crazy hand is most likely a reference to the dramatic battle brought in Street fighter alpha series where you can play and beat arcade mode with a friend.
There is a slight reference to SF with the bonus stage even existing. Granted its nothing like SFs bonus stage, but its a bonus stage nontheless (and I think the timing of it lines up to: after the first 3 opponents)
ryu's tatsu can connect multiple times depending if it's light, medium or heavy, but his tatsu sends the adversary flying to the corner, unlike ken's and akuma's, but if you do a heavy tatsu and the adversary defends it will hit three times, it's even possible to hit twice if the adversary get up fast enough since the tatsu will pursue him. It should have hit the hands three times as well, Sakurai fucked up
The Ken helping out with the Hands bit is a reference to the SF2 Animated movie, and also the Dramatic Battle modes inspired by the same film that happened in the Alpha games. :)
the bonus level is somewhat of a reference because it's halfway through the run like how the bonus stages in street fighter are also halfway through the run
The last stage is a reference to dramatic/buddy battle (from Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers). It also has M. Bison music, but I think it's only a reference due to the fact that Master Hand is a "boss" character.
Ryu has had multi hit tatsus before. Alpha 3 comes to mind. Ken's is a multi hit that usually isnt a knock down with some rare exceptions. Ryu's dp is also a multi-hit in some games for his strong and fierce versions. Just kind of depends on the game lol. Im almost tempted to get the dlc pass for the game though. Im hoping they support the game long term for a couple years though.
The team at the end is referencing Ultra Street Fighter 2, in which you can play as 2 players vs 1. Which is also a reference to the Alpha series which had the same game mode... lol
In World of Light, the Street Fighter area is located off Marth's path. Have Kap'ns spirit to access the boat to the lake. There, you'll see a familiar airplane and a portal beside it. Enter, and the original SFII character select theme will play, meaning that you found the world. Once you clear the "arcade mode", you fight Ryu to free him. BEWARE: Bison is a LEGEND level spirit and is portrayed as GANONDORF. Good luck!
Bonus game does actually have a Street Fighte reference, it happens in the middle of the classic mode like how the bonus games happen in the middle of the world tour of street fighter 2
Just to answer some questions asked in the vid. Ryu can do non EX red Hadoukens in Super SF2 Turbo and SF Alpha 3. And Ken helping out in the fight against the hands is also reminiscent of the Dramatic battle mode in SF Alpha 3 where player 1 & 2 would control Ryu and Ken in a 2 on 1 fight against M.Bison in the home releases of Alpha 3 you can do Dramatic battles using any characters you want, but yeah, that's the reference
Apparently the Master Hand/Crazy Hand fight in this one might be a reference to some Street Fighter II artwork where an enlarged M. Bison/Dictator is looming behind Ryu with his hands up, in addition to the Dramatic Battle thing people were mentioning earlier when pairing with Ken.
The Vega reference is the mask. Vega is the only sf2 character that wore a mask so meta knight is closest with the mobility and the mask. The bison reference is actually from street fighter alpha when ken ryu fight him together in an extra mode. In later alpha games it was called dramatic battle.
The Placement of the Bonus Level itself is a reference. Instead of being at the end its in the middle like in SFII. Bison is represented by Ganondorf in World of Light and Sagat by a Giant Ryu (that one is a bit wonky but it kinda works)
