sometimes I can't believe that a Japanese composer can understand our Chinese culture so much. He is really great because he writes all the Chinese ancient spirit in his songs. I love Ryuchi FOREVER!!!
60% of the Japanese culture was imported from China since Tang Dynasty. Japanese follow Confucius spirit probably more than Chinese nowadays. That’s why this Japanese composer can easily understand and translate the story into music language. Japan also is the best Asian country that absorbs and utilize the western music instruments and skills, with East Asian characteristics. However there’s fewer great master musicians from Japan in the past ten years. The peak was probably in 1970-1990s
@@davidxiong9497 just received and I learn that Ryuichi listened to 20 Chinese traditional music discs in one day and he created those music in one week. So I am pretty impressed.
Unfortunately today has just witnessed Ryuichi Sakamoto pass away. A Chinese friend of mine MD Chiu Aishinchuero, a grand son of a cousin of the Last Emperor, and I pay our heartiest condolence to him. RIP
Perfect. I still remember the day I heard this song for the first time. I can't stop crying. Thank you, Mr. Sakamoto. You left us a lot of beautiful art music. thank you.
@@Malick-ix9io I’ve heard about that, I cried when he says he would still making music as a person with disease buried in him, I still hope he would stay with us for long. Fingers Crossed
@@dokapin100 Personally I think Japanese historically had a respect and got influenced from ancient China. Actually i have a respect about Chinese legacy. Yet, our ancestors developed ourselves in culture, thought or others. Of course, we have original traditions, which were not from China. I mean, we, both Japanese and Chinese people, shoud not have a point of view as too nationalistic or extreme postscript Why i wrote this is there is a sickly fuckin nationlistic japanese said something crazy
Very sad to hear of his passing today. A remarkable composer and musician who, with Yellow Magic Orchestra and his work with David Sylvian drew the world's attention to the music of Japan.
When I listen to this song I feel like everything in life is like the tidal waves, the problems you have subdue and reside every once so often. Life can be extremely depressing and empty, yet so full of beautiful things. In the end, I believe life is all about finding your own path and being happy.
I saw this movie in the 80s when I was a teenager. It is definitely one of the best movies to date, and the music score is so beautiful and moving. There was this scene whereby the wet nurse left the young Emperor Puyi, and this piece of music came up. That scene is definitely one of the most unforgettable scenes in cinematic history. The young Emperor Puyi running down long lanes in the forbidden city finding his "butterfly". That scene just breaks my heart.
I was 12 when I saw the Last Emperor. Of course I cryed for the movie but the music... I brought the CD as soon as I can. I am french and I have a hudge respect for Mister Sakamoto. Rest in Piece Master.
Rest in peace, Ryuichi. This is one of my favorite themes and pieces of music ever. It always reduces me to tears and touches so deeply in my heart. Even when I was in my junior or senior year of high school, I was brought to tears hearing this as I am today. Your genius will never be forgotten
I saw the movie "The Last Emperor" just before going to China in 1987... The film and the music touched me to the bottom of my heart. And while walking around in the Forbidden City of Beijing, I was filled with the movie and the music and related to reality through the eyes of the movie... It has been 30 years and I cry every time I listen to this music. Why is it so touching? What is this music made of? Is it because of the movie? Or is it the music? What do you think?
Gunilla Wigertz No doubt that Mr. Sakamoto's genius work promoted the emotion of the story, but I think it's more of the movie that touched our hearts with Puyi's real life tragedy. Furthermore, Puyi's personal life experience is more that what it appears to be, it's an epitome of the Chinese empire, the once almighty dragon that's dying from ignorance and closure to the rest of the world.
Charlly Ryo i totally agree with your comment! but until nowdays the chinese still havent learned any lesson from the history. the horrible country only can bring poverty, refugees, and shameless values to all over the world.
Gunilla Alexandra Wigertz i got the same feeling omg i don’t even know if it’s because of the music or the movie??! and this movie is almost 10 years older than me but i’m so emotional everytime i listen to this😢 it’s so powerful
I was 5 when this movie came out.Had no clue what all this was about. My dad bought the soundtrack cassette tape and i was shock when he put it on.I,was asking him why he bought a chinese cassette tape. Now i know why and I am so glad he bought it.Cos this is a piece of history worth listening to even today.
I think this song is a miraculous song that fuses Chinese, Japanese and European music. I am grateful that Mr. Ryuichi Sakamoto's sensibility created a miracle in the era when the movie "The Last Emperor" was made.
Got chicken skin . I am Japanese dreamed of listening to this in China with the impression I get from the music. Now I'm in Shanghai and listening to it ... You know it's actually more than overwhelming to feel this tremendous music and China in the country. Love this music so much. tons of respects and love.
After all this time, I still remember the thunder bolt shock when I first heard this music. The serenity and the deep sorrow of this music always make me cry. Standing ovations for the composer and three brilliant Chinese ladies.
I remembered I saw The Last Emperor in theater with my mom because she wanted to see this movie so much, but she can’t find anyone babysitting me. However ,I was 10, I can’t understand the history told in the movie but I can’t forget music. The music prints in my mind so many , many years. Now I am in 40s, the printing is still new, like the time while I was 10 in the theater.
When I was a little boy, my family and I went to see "The last emperor". For the past 30years, I only remember the movie's theme music. But this time when I know Mr.Sakamoto passed away, and I hear this, I get goosebumps. So wonderful it is.
I'm not Chinese, but I think Ryuichi knew how to do his job well for this wonderful movie. The entire video of this is on RU-vid, believe it, it is wonderful.
I'm listening to this for the 20th time, but I still am completely overwhelmed by the intense emotional power that this piece creates, like a giant, house-high wave crashing down and leaving only pure perfection.
