Thanks. It's been a while, I honestly don't remember.... I think I put a couple bolts in the flywheel (same holes you use for the flywheel puller) then stuck a pry bar in between the bolts to hold it.
Thanks for your response on such an old video! Your vid was actually really helpful so thanks a lot. Im starting to get fed up with this thing haha! My rod went thru my case and took everything with it...
eacardoc, I recently added a vent tube to my weep hole and for a few weeks after I did that I rode it hard and didn't have a bit of problems. I go to ride it today and I see oil coming out of my weep hole. Now I knew it had to be the oil seal but what I'm wondering is if I caused this? If you could private message me, I have a few more questions for you since you've went to the extent that you did in the video
Click → 4:00 HA HA! I'm amazed at how expensive these machines are and how drunk or careless it seems the people are that collect checks with the Polaris logo on them. Getting parts for these machines makes me CRAZY! It's like operating in a third world country. I really, really want to like the brand, but I can't. A company culture doesn't need to have employees dying from karoshi, but at least attempt to "can." Polaris can't.
did you replace those 2 front cover bolts that are behind the stator? The manual says to do that but i went to my polaris shop and they said they dont do that...but it looks like theres some glue looking stuff you need to put on them so that oil doesnt leak through the bolts
Nope I didn't replace them. You are absolutely correct, the only reason to replace them is because they come with the thread sealer pre-installed on the threads. I just cleaned them off and put new thread sealer on the threads.
cell4me78 I honestly couldn't tell you. it's been a couple years... I believe it was down for about 2 weeks as I recall but that's including waiting for the polaris shop to order my parts and I only worked on it for a couple hours per night after work until it was done.
I have a similar condition on my 2013 RZR 800. However, I am seeing oil "seep" out of the two bolts that connect the top of the water pump cover to the oil pump/stator cover. I do not have oil running down as you have in your video. In your opinion, is it possible for the oil pump seal behind the water pump seal to fail, and allow oil to seep similar to what I am seeing?
I would think the oil would have to be seeping past the stator housing/front cover gasket and then into the bolt holes..... if the oil seal behind the water pump seal was leaking you would have oil leaking out of your water pump weep hole. If you dont have any oil leaking around your front cover I would try removing those 2 bolts one at a time and coating the threads with a teflon pipe dope type sealer. I hope that helps.....
eacardoc1 So after further cleanup, i noticed that the oil is definitely coming from the stator cover, not the water pump cover. The odd thing is that its leaking at two spots on the top of the stator cover and then midway on the right side of the stator cover (near the tight spot between stator cover and water pump cover) - Maybe the flywheel is flinging the oil to the top allowing it to leak out the top?. It does not start to leak until the engine warms up. Looks like I will be using your video in the next couple of weekends to do the exact same repair on a 2013 RZR 800 with 80 hours/650 miles. Polaris claimed "wear and tear" and would not warrant.
Andrew Hays We are pretty close there, my 2014 has 60 hours/730 miles. And yeah if its leaking from the stator cover you definitely have a bigger problem. One thing I didn't mention in the video is there is a bolt inside the stator cover that holds the front cover to the engine that goes into the crankcase where oil can seep through the threads and into the stator area so you need to use some teflon thread sealant on the threads of that bolt. It is the top bolt inside the stator cover. Let me know what you find when you get yours apart
eacardoc1 I am looking up parts on Polarispartshouse.com....is this where you got your parts? Is the oil pump seal called ASM., GEROTOR? I am confused as to exactly what the "oil pump seal" is you refer to based on the following link: www.polarispartshouse.com/oemparts/a/pol/52b778a8f87002112c8922d8/engine-oil-pump-water-pump# Thanks for all the help.
Andrew Hays I may have the exact name wrong but I believe thats what they called it in the service manual..... I had a hard time finding that seal and the crank seal online so I ordered all of my parts from a local atv shop. I say all that to say the polaris part number for that seal is #5412455
