Taeyeon appeared as a guest on Jonghyun's radio Blue Night and talked about how they didn't look at each other in the eyes, which is a topic that too many people seem to make a big deal out of on this page.
Angel Jung not much, other than that they found each other too funny to look straight on in the eyes so the next best they could do was to look at each other's noses or something.
I notice that Taeyeon always closes her eyes when she sings ballad. She has her way, her own style as a singer. The magical thing I feel after hearing this is although Taeyeon didn't even look at Jonghyun for once while Jonghyun was always looking at her during the performance, I still can feel the song. I just can feel it. I don't know how to express this, just, they sang with their own heart, they gave their feeling into the song so maybe the performance was a bit weird (because there wasn't no eyes-contact between them), but I still can feel it. And one more thing, Jonghyun doesn't "struggle with" the song like someone said LOL :)) That's his style, always move his. Watch SHINee's performances or Weekly Idol then you will understand why. Taeyeon closed her eyes and held the microphone in her two hands and stood in front of a wall (since before) while practicing. I think that is part of the reason she did that :)
taeyeon was trying to concentrate on singing all the correct notes for this particular song, that's why she sang it note perfect. It sometimes help to sing with your eyes close because it allows you to focus on the song more rather than everything that's around you. and for the earpiece, there was definitely something wrong with it, whether it was too loud or too quite for her to hear herself through it.
Zhang Yi Lin hit all her notes perfectly in the Chinese performance but she didn't close her eyes or touch her earpiece once. She actually looked Chen in the eye and engaged with him for most of the song. I'm not bashing Taeyeon, she's crazy talented and sang amazingly well in this, but I just found that I enjoyed Li Yin's performance more. No hate.
juliakawaii Have you tried singing on stage with a faulty earpiece? I'm not defending Taeyeon either, but depending on the stages they are performing, the earpiece may or may not be the only thing that helps them pitch.
juliakawaii this song is about breaking up couple who can only listen to each other's breath through the phone only they cannot see each other because it's too painful instead of seeing each other, they prefer listening to each other's breath what do you expect taeyeon to do? she's just trying to do what the lyrics's about in fact, i do think closing eyes is better than looking at each other as it suits the song more
Lim Hong in any big stadium or arena where there are hundreds or thousands of screaming fans or the instrumentation behind the performer is so loud it can be deafening, the singer won't be able to hear themselves sing, therefore they use the earpiece to be able to hear what they're singing, plus sometimes there might be a person speaking to them through the earpiece to direct them whilst on stage, but someone talking to you through the earpiece is normally for tv presenters rather than singers.
Jonghyun is trying his best to make the song sound good. He had a car accident before and his nose got injuried, so he has breathing problems now which affects him when he sings.
Jonghyun always has so many facial expression when singing. It sounds better without watching the video because it is distracting me from listening or else I will be staring at his face the whole time. For your information, I am Jonghyun bias.
Every singer is entitled to her own unique style. One would be a fool if one looks at the singer with narrow eyes just because the singer does not fulfill the desires that person has for the singer. Taeyeon, for example, sings with her eyes closed because she wants to feel at one with her song and because she wants to connect with the song. Think of it as mediating and being at peace with the song. It just goes to show much how she enjoys singing and how much emotions she put into the song. If you see her as being "dead" and "expressionless", then all I can say is how shallow you can be because you only look at the surface and fail to look beneath.
Bashing Taeyeon for not making eye contact with Jonghyun is stupid. Every singer has a different habit and hers is closing her eyes during ballads to concentrate. Jonghyun's is obviously looking at her, but that's not what she does. Go look at her performances even with the group, her eyes are closed during her parts. That's what she does besides they filmed this a while ago and it's not like she ruined the performance.

Some of y'all are hypocrites complaining about how Taeyeon made no eye contact with Jonghyun. One minute you're complaining about how close a female idol and a male idol are, then here you are pointing fingers at Taeyoen. Just because she didn't make eye contact you criticize her? Taeyeon has proved herself to be one of the best singers in KPOP, I'm sure most of us can agree. They didn't make eye contact, yet they both still killed the stage.
I'm speechless, dont know what to say to express my feeling right now, because Taeyeon's voice is so amazing (same as Jonghyun), such a perfect live performance!
If I'm not mistake, TaeYeon's in-ear monitors(IEM) might have some problem that lead her to rush some keys, even it's just one small key, you can hear that she was singing kinda quick when it comes to her turn. Maybe she was trying to find her own key but still can't find it so I think that's the reason why she keep on adjusting the IEM of her and doesn't look at JongHyun. As they sang it live on stage, they have to listen to their on voices through the IEM and control their own voice volume.
And those people saying Jjong's voice doesn't suit ballads need to get their ears checked. He sounded wonderful and his voice is one of the best in all k-pop. Stay pressed.
At first i thought that their voices didnt really match but after listening to it everyday I LOVE THEIR VOICES TOGETHER NOW! and i think jonghyuns voice is amazing in ballads and no one could substitute him. Both of them tried their best and have amazing voices
I think this song is slightly higher than Jonghyun's voice at the beginning. He sounded like he needed to breath (OMG the pun) during some of the notes...

As you can see in the video, the audience in the joint recital cheered/screamed for the duet and didn't complain about some petty stuff. Why can't some people here do the same?
I guess people are having a big fuss here about Taeyeon not giving jonghyun a single glance. Well frankly speaking, it's part of the concept were the boy is chasing the girl while the girl is having two thoughts about ditching him or giving him a second chance and the boy represents Jonghyun while the girl represents Taeyeon since this is a break up song. So it's part of their concept.
Is it just me, but Taeyeon did very well she sounds so emotionally. but I guess only Sones know about Tae's habit as she always closes her eyes when singing and concentrating. I wouldn't want her to interact with Jonghyun and then lose her focus. Great performance, i couldn't ask for more.
I thought the performance was great giving the fact that her ear piece was messing up. I think it is only Sones who know about her habit when she's singing ballads.

Even though she could never look at you during a performance without the need to laugh, you were her laughter. Making a woman laugh means a lot. You could make her laugh without effort. That's how much you meant to her. Jonghyun, be happy up there in Heaven and continue making music for all the other angels. Taeyeon and the rest of the world misses you much and we all want to let you know that you did very well with your time on this painful world. I don't believe in "rest in peace", but I believe that you will live happily in Heaven where you don't have to hurt anymore.

And at the end he's like, "Why you know look at me?" Then both their heads go slack. Like they literally do at the end. Taeyeon was mostly like, "What's wrong with my ear piece?" Or "I forgot if I should look at jonghyun...."
Oh my god, there's not many people I can think of who could pull off such an amazing vocal performance through that kind of technical difficulty. Taeyeon is awesome :)
That was ssooo BEAUTIFUL!!! i love how their voices match each other perfectly!! JONGHYUN was zoo HAWT and SWEET in this and Taeyeon was just perfect and beautiful in this like always!!
Jonghyun is just so into the song and that's how he sing a song For me, it's totally fine ,it's not too much It's just the way he express his felling Awesome :)
Amazing. I've always loved both of their voices, and when they're together sounds awesome! Also, Jonghyun looks hella cute, as well as Taeyeon she looks beautiful
