The album so incredible it made Prince furious enough to fire Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis for producing it behind his back. Thanks to those planets that fell in alignment that day and the 50-year snowstorm that stranded JJ & TL's flight! This album is spiritual.
Jimmy jam actually told the story differently. Prince fired them, but actually asked Terry to come back to the time. Prince didn’t want jimmy jam to come back and that pissed off terry. And thats when they actually decided to stick together and leave the Time.
Jimmy Jam said they couldn't possibly say NO to the Black Godfather, Clarence Avant, the founder of Tabu Records who summoned them to work with the SOS Band. RIP, Mr. Avant.
My freshman year of high school when this cut came out, and definitely remember it being played at our high school dances. The 70's, 80's, 90's were the greatest era ever for pure R&b. This type of music is long gone, I don't care what anyone says to make me believe different
Born 1990. Grew up with family that blessed my life playing this band and many more like it, I totally agree, Harry styles those Korean boy bands any of the new artists nowadays just don’t have this same vibe and never will.
Im 52 this song came out when I started to Dj. I played this jam the first time and people would ask me who the artist was. I still have this timeless jam in my record crate in plastic still in mint condition. I still rock the 1's and 2's and dj parties here in Denver. Freestyle and old school hip hop will never die. Freestyle still making moves. Look up new freestyle music. Music these days can not compete.. Dj Tymes
My brother in law is the lead singer in this song & I have to say this is my favorite song by the SOS Band.... Much love & respect to you brotherinlaw & the entire sos band!!!
As a 51 year old audiophile, you learn to listen to the entire arrangement in a song. The way Jam and Lewis wrote and produced this 1983 #5 Billboard Hot Soul Song had so many underlying musical arrangements going on. The Minneapolis Sound was certainly different from virtually everything on the radio at that time.
From the last era of the greats. Everything about such songs including the theme, writing, production and above ALL, the singers was on the mark. The singers had typically been cultivated in and/or influenced by gospel and soul traditions and had been molded by audiences with standards. The singers had to be authentically talented. Gone are the days. 😢
I was in The U.S. Army in Ft, Bliss El Paso, TX, then to Germany when this album came out in 1983. So many nice memories brought back listening to this. Great times!!!
It's soul music & not RnB...Soul-RnB to the exact,, the very same Soul Music Subgenre that gave birth to modern RnB...it's an offtune to Soul-disco-funk medley ,a romantic standard 80s soul music
I love the band SOS,❤ I can't believe that nowadays with all the technology and engineers, there aren't more producers and musicians to make quality music like the 80's 😢
This song brings many memories. I had just made the track team. My track scholarship was just completed. Students were dancing in the main lobby. Many students bought this song and played it in their dorm The local disco wore out this hit.
I swear if we don’t get back to being real like back in the days…..like this song, this music, relationships based on being your real self, and reclaiming so many other ways of realness that we seem to have lost…. I tell you folks, it’s over for us on this planet 🌎 with being so fake and artificial……it’s a shame and that’s why we are so disconnected as a society. All we need is what’s real and the truth! Fake food, got to go! Fake people, got to go, etc._________you fill in the blank! So tell me if you still care about what’s real? 🤔
👩🏽Dancing to this with my 2.5 year old grandson in the family room. Kid already loves Earth Wind & Fire, SOS BAND, The whispers, Teena Marie etc😆 Raising him right😂
