The 22 caliber revolvers never got my attention before, but this model with the 22 magnum looks great and more effective than the other 22 calibers. I really liked it. Thanks for the review sir !!
@@Chilly_Billy 327 federal magnum, 32H&R Magnum and 32 S&W long has been plentiful during the pandemic imo. Those are 3 calibers I have stocked up on for my LCR and GP100 in 327.👍🏻
I often carry one of these when I walk my dogs. We see a lot of coyotes on our walks. Between the 2 Pit Bulls and the little 22 mag I think we're good..
@BlueDog not true here. I live in the central city. I walk my dogs in an historic cemetery. The coyotes live in the wooded area between the cemetery and a park. They are accustomed to people and have become very brazen. I've had 2 brief stand offs in the last year.
Perfect for my Mom who is 60+ and afraid of recoil due to firing .38scl without being tutored properly many many years ago... not only afraid but flinches way overboard. .22Mag revolver is definitely the way to go! We are having to arm our elders here in South Africa, its getting rough... Just a side note for anyone new to firearms who watched this clip ... After a misfire/failure to ignite: DO NOT immediately tend to the cartridge. If it fails to fire just stop firing, keep firearm down range/in safe direction and wait 5-10 seconds before cycling or removing the cartridge to see what or why it failed. A cartridge can ignite a bit late and you do not want that to ignite after you cycled and it goes off in the cylinder or in your hand after you prematurely removed it. And I say that witg yhe utmost respext to the Author of this channel. Be safe.
I carry this or my 642. Trigger pull is VERY HEAVY! It has to because it is rimfire. Something to keep in mind if you have hand issues. Also it is pretty pricey. Accuracy is "get off me close". It is light enough to forget you are pocket carrying. Also, no Hillary hole. Be safe everyone! Edit: Must have found a unicorn. $399 on Nov 2018 from Hinterland Outfitters. Now $611.
Love this gun - you nailed it Sootch when you said you have to hold it to see how light it is. The trigger is heavy but because of the smoothness of the pull it is easy to stage the break and get very accurate self defense shots. Makes a great gun to have on you at all times when home and in the yard and it’s my backup carry to my primary sidearm.
I was able to get one LNIB for $450. Shot it for the first time today and love it. Was reliable through 50 rounds. Going to be my fanny pack running gun.
One of my wife's many handguns is a little 351PD. It is wonderfully accurate, holds 7 rounds, possesses energy on par with the .32acp, and has a wicked 'bark'. I've carried it on occasion and have actually forgotten I had it. Its ultralight weight is due to its Scandium frame and cylinder. This also accounts for its MSRP of over $800.
My wife, which is not a gun person, has decided to get her CCW permit. I think that a small revolver in 22 mag. would be a great option for her, but it depends on the trigger pull.
The hammerless Smith and Wesson’s have no Clinton lock. I recently have just picked up this exact gun and I love it . I would not buy a gun with a Clinton lock on it either
22 Mag is so much fun. I have a Model 48, which is like shooting a pellet gun with all that weight. Like the man said 22LR is not interchangeable. When I bought that model 48, I had to clean the chambers like crazy. Previous owner shot a lot of 22LR in it. Yes, it fires, but the shells split and fowl up the chamber. Then when you shoot a 22 Mag in it, you have to fight to get them to eject. If you want to shoot both buy one of each, or a revolver with a conversion cylinder.
I noticed it at a local gun shop today, and I like the idea of a J-Frame lightweight 22 Magnum (sounds like a great hiking or "kit" gun). I'm surprised at the aluminum cylinder, but Smith obviously knows what they're doing, so I'll just assume the material can handle the heat and pressure fine. If it's still in the shop tomorrow, I'll probably get it - just wanted to check out some reviews first, so thanks for the video. Update: Bought it - along with some .22 LR dummy rounds and a box of .22 WMR. It is a heavy trigger, but not unreasonably so - I can't wait to try it at the range.
I’m glad you changed your mind. First video you said 22mag wasn’t a defensive load. Cary more ammo and as one post pointed out, good for coyotes. Small and handy.
I own one. It is very safe to carry around loaded. Very minimal chance of a negligent discharge. For me pulling the trigger is ok for several rounds but finger fatigue set in quickly. Better for plinking than extended target practice.
I have the PD version, and when the mercury goes up, this is in my pocket. wish someone made speedloaders for it. I think I might get one of these too. as far as the trigger goes, you do get used to it, but it is not necessary, if a 22 round does not go off, it does not go off, and hitting it harder does not change that. and CCI is good stuff, very reliable. 40 grainers will break 1000fps, averaging like 1030-1050fps from the 1.875 barrel.
This is my carry gun for the last 3 years. Mine is loaded with the speer gold dot short barrel. The Hornady you mentioned doesn't perform from what I've seen on here. The gold dot does. I've tested it and the fired bullet looks identical to any fired gold dot.
i think I will have to shop around .I walked into shoot straight today and they had one but it was like 900$ after taxes and all that jazz and I wasn't sold on it and they kind of looked at me funny when I choked at the price.
In the very limited round count J-frame sized revolvers, a couple of extra rounds like this one has, trumps caliber size all day long, in my opinion of course.
I LOVE my .22 Magnums. I have a 4 inch revolver and a Henry Yellow Boy, both in .22 mag. They are so much fun for squirrel hunting and plinking too. They really reach out there a good distance!
The .22 mag is a great gun for fast defence, by shooting the perpetrator in the eyes at close range. Remember, SMITH & WESSON IS TOP OF THE LINE IN GUN MANUFACTURING.
Until you pick one up, you no idea of just how light the AirLite models are. I have one in .22mag and one in .32 H&R mag. My brother has the .38 one and its a beast to shoot a couple cylinders full and its done for the day it hurts. Nice thing is you get 7 shots in .22 and 6 in .32.
I don't own anything anymore chambered in 22mag but bought up a case of ammo "cheap". You're not kidding. I like this revolver a lot and am searching for one. The ammo...can't find it
I have the Smith and Wesson 317 and I like it pretty well it’s extremely light. Definitely a great backpacking revolver. Wonder how it compares to the 351 aside from the fact 351 is chambered for magnum loads.
If ypur cartrdige does not fire DO NOT continue firing, and DO NOT remove the cartridge until you have waited 5-10 seconds after the failure to ignite. Hang-fire is still a thing... All the best and respect.
Love you sootch and always have. Love the videos. I wish you would do a video on the feds storming Portland. As a Constitutionalist Republican, I find this unnerving and alarming. Saying the fed has a right to come in against local officials is wrong and we have to stand up to this. Stay safe brother.
28 THUMBS DOWN ratings from people who like"Semi autos" that CAN jam up when you need them most. Information correct as of 23rd Oct 2020 If you can't do the job with 7 Rounds then the chances are you are in more trouble than you can handle anyway. EDIT.. For all the "Caliber warriors" who say that a .22 magnum is not enough .... Fancy been shot in the upper mass with one at 7 Yards wearing only a tee-shirt? NO I did not think you would! Superb choice as a "Home protector" take no notice of the "Caliber warriors" unless your home is going to be invaded by a bear this S&W ticks all the yes boxes.
What are your thoughts on doing a trigger job and dropping the poundage? I shot one last week and I was all over the paper, like you at 21 ft. If you are grouping in 3-4 inches at 21 feet with this gun with one or two flyers would that be considered worthy?
I tried the airlite 22lr and mine wouldn't hit the same place twice, good pack piece but definitely wasn't a range toy, my daily is a 3" Airlite ti in 38sp and I love it
It is a shame no manufacturer adopts the practice some guns had of striking the rim in two spots at once. I shoot a lot of 22 Mag, and while a lot better than 22RF, misfires happen that work when struck a second time on other areas of the rim. The scallop is for removing the barrel isn't it? I love Smith and Wesson DA revolvers, not a big fan of changing nomenclature by using that SA/DA jargon. They are DA revolvers and all the standard reference works have used that wording for well over a Century, what you have on hand is a shrouded hammer DA revolver. As a NRA instructor I find a lot of confusion being created by this language malfunction, but such malfunctions are a common ill of this era.
I had the 38 special version but man it was a bear to shoot. Since it was only 15oz and 38 special it kicks hard. So I'm buying the 22 mag airlte now 22 magnum like cci defense rounds is decent enough for defense round. It's all about the shot placement if u have a bigger caliber but can't hit shit or put rounds into a small nice group then what's the sense of carrying it. 22 mag won't kick as much giving u better shot placement. It's so light for carrying too!
Plum darn Keeler. Wasn’t looking butJust found one in a pawnshop. They love the big black scary guns for sure. & am really close to a military base. It’s a bargain from what I can tell. They don’t think much of it or it’s got problems.?.didn’t notice anything except it’s dirty as can be on outside + doesn’t look like it’s ever been cleaned at all.shot a box,maybe..type deal ..& new looking in every other way. Very faint line on cylinder. Hardly has one. Guess I should have a set of snap caps anyway. Will run get them, try it out and have one. Thx for video. Think you dry fired it and it is ok with some guns but not going too have that conversation .. A bird in the hand.
I've been looking for some awesome little self defense pocket pistols but the .380/9 mm automatics might just be too big with not enough mass for me to be comfortable with. A well made hammerless 22 magnum might just be perfect!
i carry a sig 365xl and i have a top end holster for it, not too bad riding on the hip, but i just shot the SW351C yesterday and I dig it for a pocket carry, and now that Federal has the 45 grain punch round, a healthy ballistic, my problem is the hammer pull makes it difficult for me to keep on a tight group set if you rapid fire its all over the place for me. with an 11-16lb trigger pull why are so many wigged out about doing a trigger job to reduce the lbs?
@@327Federal They do make a lot of great guns though, I wouldn't be too hard on them, but yes they are missing a niche market with the lack of the .327. Truth be told, most gun shops I visit won't even stock any guns in .327 because it's such a "rare bird". I have told all of them if they did stock them I'm sure they would sell, the word just hasn't gotten around yet.
Double striking a dud round by pulling the trigger again doesn’t really work because the cylinder is automatically rotated to the next cartridge by the trigger pull. You would have to advance through a full rotation of the cylinder to get back to the dud to double strike it. Not trying to be critical, but aren’t you supposed to wait a few seconds to see if a misfire cooks off late before you remove the cartridge? I enjoy your videos, thanks!
Is 22 Magnum marginal defense ammunition? I don’t wanna sway you one way or another but I suggest that you research and try a ballistics gel test of the 22 Magnum versus the 380 and the 9 mm; all in ball ammunition.
Do you prefer this to the 351PD? What about in comparison to the Ruger LCR .22 WRM? A pros/cons comparison video of these three would be great. It doesn’t sound too good that the trigger, being the most important feature on a gun is what you call the one downside of this gun. 🤦🏼♂️🤷♂️
expanding defense loads...you mentioned the Hornady Critical Defense; there is also Speer Gold Dot; what I have encountered is people will usually use what is readily available in stores or already in their possession (for their hunting/pest control rifles)...CCI maxi-mags seem to garner alot of respect (whether solid or hollowpoint); there are multiple others & they are designed to expand/deform/fragment at velocities achieved from rifle barrels; .22lr & .22mag have always been contemptuous with me because of loss of terminal effect with expanding loads; I have opted for a plated solid when available... then hollowpoint...then ballistic tip last (handgun applications up to 6" barrels); in recent years I have abandoned rimfire completely and concentrated on centerfire & shotgun
