Hey, Doug… my friend, Jim Harrison, Westsail 32 #92 Amable, said he ran into you on the East Coast while he was helping a friend with his new boat. Hope you and Trilogy and Suzy are doing well 👍👍👍
A west sail reunion is happening this sept 2023 at solomns md. check the woa web site to register. it gives us all a chance to look at other peoples boats and ask questions.
I just ordered a 310 in the new seafoam color, won’t get it until spring of 2022. Doing research on the transom, mount and vessel ratings, and comparing thickness to the other Whaly transoms at the boat show, it looks to me that the vessel can easily handle a 15hp, but the company lowered the rating because they wanted to use the smaller motor bracket so it be possible to install the wheel kit. Bad call in my opinion, but vessel accessories make more gross than the vessel itself. I’m installing a Suzuki 15hp, the engine is identical to their 9.9 just has a different pcm and flash suppressor on the air intake. But, just to sure it up, I’ll be putting a transom saver on. Will definitely use a fin on the motor but am leaning toward auto trim tabs, they work great on our current dinghy, Thanks for the video, really good to know about the cavity in the seats. Glad you cut first and not me!
not sure how effective the transom saver would be when the engine is in operation. its my beleif that a new more robust transom plate would need to be installed for a bigger hp engine. a yamaha 9.9 and a 15 are about the same size but i think the torque on the transom would be different due to the extra hp
@@svtrilogywestsail3278 Yah, I ended up having one made, there's a whole pack of other issues to contend with though, the angle of the transom is greater than the trim adjustments will allow, I installed a jack plate and the outboard is still too low, 15" shaft mind you. I'm going to have to wedge it too. I'm so disappointed in this tub of a "boat"
Hi! Thanks for sharing! I'm thinking to change my 310 inflatable with a Whaly 310 ad I look for a more stable solution. How many knots do you reach with the 9.9 motor? Also approx is fine. Thank you and greetings from Italy
NOT SURE BUT ITS NOT AS FAST AS AN INFLATABLE. YOU CAN GET A BIGGER WHALEY WITH A BIGGER ENGINE. The 310 is very stable and can move alot of fuel, people and groceries very easily.
Fun & ugly too! I want this! What is top speed with just you and the pup and a full tank of gas? Could I get it on and off the roof of my SUV awd with some sort of homemade ramp or dolly? 🌴👍🏼
Do not buy this dinghy! I received a recall notice from Whaly USA with a new weight placard to be installed. The rated weight capacity from the USCG was dropped almost in half to 3 people plus gear, motor and fuel. I've asked Whaly to buy it back for false advertisement of the weight capacity, because these specs were not the case when I purchased, they told me that that it's always been this way and that I was looking at the manufacturer website which has a different certification. I used the internet way back machine to look at the 310 specs on their site the day that I purchased, sent them the proof that they were BSing me, they haven't responded. Doing my small claims filing next week. The dealer that sold the Whaly 310 to us, stopped carrying it due to customer issues. This thing is fine for rowing around Grandma's pond, but that's about it.
Whaley screwed the poo on the weight issue and motor size. I have used one for years now and it is a great boat for fishing and a full time tender. I use mine every day with out issue. It does well with me in it running a 9.9 hp engine. If you need to add a 15 hp engine then in my opinion the transom will need to be reinforced. When I got the boat whaley was recommending a 9.9 hp but the sales people were saying you could put a 15 hp on it no problem. I have seen some larger whaleys with big engines and they had to modify the transom. I have a 9.9 hp and have had no issues. The whaly 310 “recall” for me was a new sticker with the revised weight and larger engine capacity. The 310 is still a great boat for full time cruisers. As with all things, take care of the boat and the boat will take care of you. Abuse the boat and you will need a life jacket and swimming lessons. I do realize that the 310 is not every bodies cup of tea. Its heavy and the cup holds suck but for me durability counts.
@@svtrilogywestsail3278 Thank you for answering with your impressions of the 310. I like it over all and do a lot of single handed sailing. I have a flush deck to store it forward of the mast but 230+ lbs is a lot for 1 person to swing around. I am concerned about repeatedly hauling the 310 up and down without reinforced lifting rings/setup. How do you deal with that and not rip holes in the boat?
Interesting, I was looking into a 310, or a 370 , Whaly USA was trying to steer me strongly to the 370, mentioning that the 310 doesnt plane very well. Im looking at other options now, LMK if you have suggestions.
