🎧 Tune in to our heartwarming episode of the Advanced English Podcast, where hosts Kat Teacher from the USA and Mark Teacher from the UK share their Sunday traditions with their parents. This episode is a delightful blend of cultural insights and language learning, perfect for advanced English learners.
🇺🇸 Kat from the US describes her regular Sunday visits to her parents' house. She talks about enjoying her dad's barbecue skills and sharing a big meal together. Their time is spent catching up on each other's lives, including work and vacation plans. Kat also helps with chores and, weather permitting, enjoys strolls in the park or neighborhood. She concludes her visit with goodbyes and a sneak peek into next week's menu.
🇬🇧 Mark from the UK narrates his bi-weekly visits to his parents. He paints a picture of cozy breakfasts prepared by his mum, filled with home comforts and tea. They exchange updates and local gossip. Mark assists his dad with household tasks, considering his age, and enjoys walks in the park when the weather is nice. His visits end with planning for the next time and heartfelt goodbyes.
📚 Along with these stories, Kat and Mark dissect various English expressions and vocabulary related to family, home life, and cultural traditions. The episode provides a unique perspective on how family time is spent in different cultures, making it not just an English lesson but a cultural exchange.
🌟 We'd love to hear about your family traditions! Share them in the comments below and don't forget to subscribe for more episodes like this.

Thank you so much for your great videos every time. Whatching or listening your videos is my daily routine these days. You show so many useful expressions that I need. I've lerned from this episode; quality time, help out, lend me a hand, come over, head over, head off, pop over, whip up, home comforts, catch up with, keeping tabs on, pitch in, wander around, take a stroll, say my goodbyes .etc. I'll remenber and try to use them😊

Love your classes. The best way to start my day. I save some sentences to practice all day. Kat, I have a question. I notice that sometimes you include a do in some affirmative sentences. Would it be wrong if I just said "I notice that with my students sometimes"? Is it always necessary include DO in this kind of sentence? Thank you in an advance

Thanks very much for your kind words! The only part of your comment that's a little confusing is the word "manifolded." A more common word would be: "My interest [grows] whenever I [watch] your videos."

Hello Kat and Mark! I love your content: I always learn something new, be it a phrasal verb, an expression, or some vocabulary. In particular this time I found interesting that in American accent "wonder/wander" is a minimal pair (and they're so damn close to my ears! 😁), while in British accent they're pretty much homophones. As always good job and thanks so much!
@highlevellistening
@highlevellistening 5 месяцев назад
I even had a hard time listening to Mark’s accent! We’ll have to use context clues to help, normally it isn’t a problem but wander around and wonder about can sound very similar

I have a question . Can you explain the meaning of "" Find myself " in the sentence "but I usually find myself going over to my parents house pretty much every Sunday " Can you give any synonym for "find myself doing something""
@highlevellistening
@highlevellistening 2 месяца назад
That's a great question! "I find myself" often means that I do something almost instinctively, or without thinking about it or planning it too much. Synonyms for "find myself doing something" could be: "end up [doing something]" "habitually [do something]" "tend to [do something]" Hope that helps!

The phrasal verb "pop into" (the supermarket) associates me with something I watched from a TV series. The context is that someone needed to go to the supermarket to get something quickly. I don't quite remember the words the character used, but I think there is a word "run." Could you please tell me what it probably is? There are too many episodes with that TV series and I don't know how to locate that...
@highlevellistening
@highlevellistening Месяц назад
Hello! That's a good question! Another way to say: "visit quickly" is "to run into" For example: "I need to [run into] the supermarket quickly and get some bread." "I'm gonna [run into] the pharmacy and get some eye drops." When someone says this, we expect them to go shopping very quickly! Hopefully that's the phrase you heard or were looking for :)
