About to tackle this and video made things clear. But, doesn’t look like you really need to remove the shift knob and boot. The boot will maneuver, if angled, under the plastic housing. Thanks for making these videos though. Saving me some time and guesswork.
You don’t have to take the shifter apart. You can pop the shift boot up, turn it, then slide it through the hole it covers. The console will come up around it.
That's awesome, thanks for making this video and the overview. I had the same failure. Have you made a video showing the replacement of the cable from the hand brake to that front /rear linkage?
@@3VJohnny very cool. I think I figured out my issue, I thought, looking from the underside of the car up, that the cable routed through the body under the carpet somewhere, but realized what I was actually looking at is the bottom of the handbrake assembly. I have to break the retainer clips to get the front cable out still. Am I correct that they don't sell a replacement front cable and you have to replace the entire handbrake assembly?
I did not because the handle is what controls the tension on the system. You can always just unhook the rear cables from the calipers to remove any pressure.
My parking brake lever cable broke as well. Can u just replace the cable or does the entire assembly need to be replaced? I can't seem to find just a cable replacement that doesn't come with the lever.
@@3VJohnny not the news I wanted but thanks for the response. I really enjoy ur vids. Found myself watching them even though I don't have that issue just the explanations alone are worth it
Thank you I really appreciate that 👍🏼. It's honestly not too bad of a job, for me it was more the lack of understanding how the system works at first. Once you figure it out, it's fairly straightforward.
What you think of the aftermarket e-brake handles on eBay ? I changed my seized rear brake lines with OEM one. Now the handle goes up and down but won’t stay up. Like the teeth are stripped that hold the handle up.
I don't know anything about them. I personally stick with as much OEM as I can unless there is an aftermarket part that is superior. An example would be something like a melling high volume oil pump versus the factory oil pump which across the board has been deemed not adequate. I went with a factory handle assembly and that's all I can speak to and it works as it should.
@@3VJohnny Yeah. I’m that way as well but they are pricey now. Never seen the issue I’m having with a ebrake handle ? Ebrake works but stay up. Like if the teeth are stripped or the button is not disengaging. Weird
Yeah it's hard to say. I think the best way you'd have to go about it is to disconnect the parking brake cables from the rear calipers and see if the handle still does the sticking issue. Try to isolate it and see if it's the handle or something else.
